I. INTRODUCTION

A. PROJECT BACKGROUND

According to the experiment conducted by iScience, more than three in five adolescents reported

incorrect posture out of a survey of almost 600,000 students. Bad posture habits begin in adolescence and carry

through students’ lifetime, and it can cause severe health problems.. Poor posture causes ill effects throughout

the entire body, not just simple muscle aches. This includes breathing limitations, joint arthritis, digestive

problems and mental health issues, such as mood disturbances. Many students struggle with adequate sleep and

energy, however bad posture causes additional fatigue. Although many young teens do not foresee long-term

symptoms, studies from the University of Texas have linked cardiovascular diseases, obesity and some types of

cancer. (Jane Brody)

Students who carry heavy backpacks may experience back issues, but schools can lessen the burden by

offering safe school lockers. Recent studies have shown that carrying backpacks that are simply too heavy on a

regular basis causes students to experience back discomfort and other related health issues. Even when worn

properly, the student might need to lean forward to make up for the weight of the extra backpack. This may alter

the lower back's natural curve. Additionally, extra weight may result in the shoulders rounding and the upper

back curving more. Students might therefore develop neck, back, and shoulder pain. (Michelle Rheine, M.D.)

In order to prevent harm to the students' health, more schools are introducing recyclable cabinets as their

lockers, which are an appropriate answer to this rising issue. The best approach to minimizing back pain is to

avoid carrying heavy loads, and students who have access to a safe personal locker can take stuff out of their

bag and just bring the necessities with them to each lesson. This will lessen the strain on young backs, help to

prevent the possibility of long-term health issues, and help to increase concentration periods. Recyclable school

cabinets that will serve as lockers are helpful to students in many other ways besides just helping them maintain

good spinal health. Obviously, security is the most important one. Given the prevalence of pricey electronics

among students, such as computers, tablets, and cellphones, a locker offers a secure location where students can

keep their possessions while they are in class. Both students and their parents can feel more at ease knowing
that expensive belongings are safe during the day. In addition to this, using lockers is an excellent way to teach

kids about time management, independence, and respect for other people's property.(Maldon, Essex)

B. RATIONALE

According to the experiment conducted by iScience, more than three in five adolescents reported

incorrect posture out of a survey of almost 600,000 students. Bad posture may hinder your balance, flexibility,

and joint mobility. It may affect your independence and raise your risk of falling. Even breathing comfortably

and digesting meals might be made more challenging by slumped posture. Because we all noticed that certain

students, particularly those in elementary school, carried heavy objects like books and other items. We are

putting this initiative dubbed "RECAB," which stands for recycling cabinet, into place for those students who

carry large bags every day since it affects their bodily postures. They can store their belongings on the

repurposed cabinet so they can enjoy studying without experiencing back strain. Additionally, they can

personalize the cabinets or lockers they have been given.

C. OBJECTIVES (S.M.A.R.T)

The RECAB Project aims to:

● Provide students to have a secure place to store their valuable things such as school supplies and

gadgets.

● Lessen the things that a student should bring everyday

● Avoid late submission of their assignment.

● Help the students to improve their posture.

By the end of this RECAB Project on June 20, 2023, the students that participated were expected to:

● Learn that their posture is important for their health.

● Be relaxed.

● Learn how to care for themselves by becoming healthy and maintaining their good posture.

● Pass their assignments on time.

● Avoid struggling to bring heavy things.

D. BENEFITS

Students. This project will help students reduce their academic burden and stress. Because the cabinet

already exists, we thought of making one using plastic bottles that we can collect at school. The benefit of this

to students is that by having a container for their objects or projects, they will also find it easier to get to if they

need to use it. and since they have a place to put them, they won't have any trouble bringing them home.

Teachers. This project will help the teachers to teach easier, and his/her students will be able to

understand what he/she is teaching faster because all of their belongings are hidden in the locker, including their

gadgets, which is why they can focus more on studying. And since the things they bring every day have been

reduced, they will feel more energetic listening to class.
