Corporate Social Responsibility


(CSP) - is defined as a
concerted initiative to contribute
to sustainable development
through efforts that are
economically, socially and
environmentally beneficial to
stakeholders.
Corporate Social Responsibility
(CSP)
• Corporate Social Responsibility (CSP) has
been used by companies for sustainable
development. Sustainable development is a
term defined as an effort to strike a balance
between maintaining the needs of the
present and the ability of future generations
to meet their needs throught he preservation
of the environment. We discussed from the
previous modules that businesses go beyond
profit.

Many companies had exerted effort in


implementing socially responsible
activities such as being environmenally
friendly, having high integrity and
repuation, promoting the welfare of
employees, and treating employees fairly.

A global consultancy firm known as


Reputation Institute conducted a survey
about companies with the most social
responsibility activities.Approximately
80,000 people from over 15 countries
participated in the poll and voted for
the following companies:
Google
It is a multinational company which has he most search
engines in tthe web. It also offers cloud compuing,
advertising, Web app, browser and inernet analytics.Among
its recognizable CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) are:

• Energy Consumption. Google has cut its
energy consumption by 15%.
• Waste Consumpion. Employees reduced
30% of potable water consumption since
2013.
• Waste reduction and recycling. It has
reduced its waste to 86% .
•Carbon Emission. Google has zero carbon
emission since 2007.
Microsoft
It is a multinational company that develops and licenses
software products and services through hardware devices.Its
CSR programs are the following:
• Microsoft’s data center rely heavily on
hydroelectric power and solar energy.

•Employees are encouraged to be creative and


develop new products and services.

•It propagates confidentiality of customer’s


personal data and their right to privacy.

Microsoft
It is a multinational company that develops and licenses
software products and services through hardware devices.Its
CSR programs are the following:

•Suppliers are protected by the Supplier Code of


Cunduct which defines business ethics practices.

•Microsoft is committed to donate$1 billion in


cloud computing for non profit organizations
worldwide in a span of 3 years.Cloud computing
an online network to store and process data
rather than a physical server.

Walt Disney
It is a diversified international company that offers media
and family entertainment in the form of parks and resorts,
studio entertainment, media networks, and consumer
products. Its CSR activities are:

•Walt Disney has given to charitable endeavors


especially to victims of natural disasters

• Motion pictures usually deal with taking care of
the environment.Thus, it encourages environmental
education to the public.

ecosystems around the world.
Uniliver
•Reduce carbon dioxide emission by 3%,
global energy use by 2% and water use by
3%.

•In 2017, Unilever announced a


commitment that all its plastic packaging
are reusable recyclable by 2025.
Companies are encouraged to put
corporate social responsibility in
their priority list. They can base their
