“AN ACT TO REQUIRE PLATEAU STATE POLYTECHNIC TO USE STUDENTS TO FIX

TECHNICAL PROBLEMS IN THE SCHOOL”

BE IT ENACTED BY THE STUDENT’S OF PLATEAU STATE POLYTECHNIC BARKIN


LADI, AND IT IS HEREBY ENACTED BY THE SCHOOL AUTHORITY.

PURPOSE: To improve students’ practical skills and to burst their economy stands while in
school by enacting a law mandating the institution to use students in solving technical problems
in the school.

SECTION 1: Definition
i. A technical Problem shall be defined, for the purpose of this Act as,
a. All forms of repairs such as repairs of broken seat, computer systems;
b. All forms of reconnections such as electrification, plumbing;
c. All forms of reconstruction such as reconstruction of restrooms, refurbishment of
containers, paintings and
d. Other related problems which does not take in the nature of a new project.

SECTION 2: Qualification
i. All persons to carry out the Job must be students from the department which the technical
problem is relating to and must provide the following information’s thus:
a. Full name, Home address and residential address
b. Department and matriculation number
c. A letter from the Head of Department (HOD) certifying that he/she is a student and is
capable for the Job
ii. The student must be in his/her final year.
iii. A student who is not in final year but have the experience, can be given the
opportunity after when it is certify that he/she must have work elsewhere or currently
working

SECTION 3: Project Supervisors


i. There will be person’s saddle with the responsibility of supervising the students to ensure
that the specification and a standard work is done. Such persons include:
a. Director of Works
b. Head of Department which the technical problem affects
c. SUG President
d. Dean Students Affairs Directorate
SECTION 4: Amount assigned for the work
i. The Student’s Union Government shall take need assessment and come up with the
budget proposal to solving the problem.
ii. Proposal shall be forwarded to the management through the Dean Student’s Affairs
Directorate
iii. Upon consideration and approval, the amount signed by the management for the Job shall
be handed over to the supervisors.
iv. The supervisors have no obligation to purchase materials for the work. However, they
can only go along with the students to checkmate their activities.
v. Upon completion of the said project, the students shall be appreciated with an amount
substantial but not up to the standard pay for laborer’s and that will be determine by the
school management

SECTION 5: Report
i. Students who carried out the Job are require to write a report of their work and submit
it to the following:
a. School management through the SUG and the Dean Students Affairs
b. Students Union Government
c. Office of Directorate Students Affairs
ii. The report shall include the following headings
a. Introduction
b. Summary of work done
c. Lessons learned
d. Challenges encounter
e. Recommendation
f. Summary

SECTION 6: Provision for defaulters


i. Any job which takes in the nature of technical problems and is duly contracted out to
third parties by the school management, shall be considered as breach to National
Policy on Education goals (e) which state that “Development of appropriate skills,
mental, physical and social abilities and competencies to empower the individual to
live in and contribute positively to the society. Hence the students can protest on that
ground.
a. For the purpose of this section, third parties are any person who is not a student.
b. The school works department can be seen as third parties if they so carried out a technical
problem without involving students. By this law, works department have supervisory role
c. The head of department can be seen as third parties if he/she take part in solving the
problem or might have smuggle in any person who is not a student.
ii. Any student who exhibit negligence in the course of solving the technical problem,
and in the decision of the management the act is seen as a calculative attempt to
ridicule the school, shall be ask to pay the damage.
iii. Any other form of default by the students, the management can refer to the students
hand book for the penalties.
