Participated/Participating:

● Rambler Rookies
○ Rambler Rookies is a PLN for new teachers. The goal of the PLN
is to inform new teachers about the goals/vision of LaFayette
High School. The PLN also helps new teachers to feel like “part of
the family” through provided support and open
communication. The PLN is a support network for new teachers
and also provides them with strategies to use in the classroom.
○ I was a Rambler Rookie last school year since it was my first
year at LHS.
○ My goal for this year is to be used as a resource for the
Academic Coach to help the Rambler Rookies or to facilitate the
meetings. I hope to use this for field experience hours.
● Math Department PLC
○ There is a math department PLC which consists of all the math
teachers at LHS. The math department PLC contains all teachers
and includes Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, AB
Calculus, Math with Finance, and Foundations Math teachers. At
LHS we offer Resource, Honors, Regular, Semester Long, and
Year Long Classes.
○ We look at school data, discuss department goals/strategies,
lesson plans, discuss procedures, and our administrative
representative attends our PLC to discuss policies/procedures
that the admin would like us to implement.
○ I participate in this PLC/PLN since I am an Algebra 2 teacher at
LHS.
● PLC for Algebra 2
○ All of the Algebra 2 teachers meet separate from the Math
Department PLC. I currently teach Algebra 2 Year Long with
Support and there are 2 of us, 3 of us if you include the Algebra
2 Resource teacher.
○ The two Algebra 2 Year Long with Support teachers meet almost
daily to discuss the course and student learning progression.
Resources are shared with all Algebra 2 Year Long with Support
teachers as well as the Algebra 2 Resource teacher.
○ We utilize common assessments, common lessons, and will be
implementing benchmark assessments this school year.

Future Plans:

● ISTE
○ I plan on joining ISTE once I graduate or become ISTE Certified
whichever comes first. My goal is to become an instructional
technology coach and I think joining ISTE would help me to stay
up to date with the ever changing world of technology.
● Open to other PLNs that involve technology, personalized learning,
math.
Reflections:

● Academic Coach:
○ I have worked with the Academic Coach for almost a year now. I
have learned so much from her; she is very knowledgeable
about her job and how to coach effectively. She helped me know
who Jim Knight was before I even opened the book for this
course. She offers training throughout the year, typically once a
month, on various topics that the administration would like her
to cover. I feel like she has done an excellent job modeling what
a good coach looks like.
○ Most of our interactions have been verbal interactions but an
example of how we have worked together is listed below. This is
a great example of how we have worked together. She
recommended a book for me to read to help me become a better
coach.

● Math Department PLC:
○ Our Math Department PLC has met a few times to discuss the
building/implementation of pacing guides, lesson plans, and
scope and sequences. We have worked together to start this
process but recently the administration decided that we do not
need to start this for this school year. They stated that since we
are getting new standards next year that we should start
building the previous listed items next year. A lot of us have
started to go ahead and start building so that we do not have as
much work to do next year.

● PLC for Algebra 2:
○ This has been a good PLC/PLN to be a part of, it is nice to know
that you are not in this alone. We are not only co-workers but a
support system for each other. We discuss challenges in the
classroom and strategies that we can change for better results.
This has been the most beneficial PLN that I have participated in
this school year.
○ Examples of the Algebra 2 PLC are highlighted in the next
session.

Developed PLN:

I have created a Google Classroom that contains resources for all of the
Algebra 2 Teachers. I have a sample classroom that can be shared and
copied very easily with any teacher. This is perfect for new teachers who
come into the school since we do not have textbooks. This would ease some
stress for the new teachers since they would not have to search for
resources. The new teacher would not be required to follow the guide exactly
but it would merely be a resource for them.

The current resources in the classroom are shared via email and I am the
one who puts them on Google Classroom. Resources have been shared from
other teachers and myself. This is a collaborative effort and all
resources/ideas are welcome.
Teacher Collaborations:
Sample Classroom:

The teachers that currently use the classroom:

● Lugenia Suttles - Administration

● Derek Parker - Math Teacher
● Shannon Wells - Math Teacher/Special Education Teacher
● Kim Elliott - Math Teacher
● Kittie Brown - Academic Coach
● Teri Hughes - Math Teacher
● Regina Hardinger - Math Teacher/Math Department Head
Teacher Collaborators:

The classroom contains agendas, schedules, unit resources, exit tickets, and
bell ringers. Other topics can and will be added to this resource as the year
progresses. I know that one teacher in particular utilizes this resource in
their own classroom, Shannon Wells. She uses this resource in her Resource
Algebra 2 classroom. She has stated that it is very helpful for her and she
knows what to expect and what materials are needed for each particular day.
In my opinion, this has been one of the best things to come out of this class.
Developing this PLN has been great for myself and for my fellow Algebra 2
teachers. We discuss/collaborate daily and it has helped to build
relationships and resources at the same time.
