HOME
SIQUIJOR AN ISLAND FULL OF
SURPRISES

AISY A. EROJO
THE EXPLORER

12 LOVELACE
Siquijor, the southernmost
island in the Visayan Island
Group, is referred to as the
Mystic Island of Central
Visayas.It is around 50
kilometers from the nearest
point on northwest
Mindanao and 30 kilometers
southeast of Negros Island.
Enrique Villanueva, Larena,
Lazi, Maria, San Juan, and
Siquijor are among its six
municipalities.

According to the people in Siquijor, that the

island was known as Isla de Fuegos, or Island of
Fire, during the Spanish era. The explanation for
this is because Spanish explorers who were in
the Visayas region at the time discovered that
the island was illuminated at night. These,
however, were only fireflies engulfing the molave
trees that are supposed to be their habitat.

The island is a calm location that is perfect for

anyone who wish to escape the rush of city life just
like Me. Hikers, cyclists, and wildlife enthusiasts will
find it to be a refuge. The 102 kilometers of the
island's shoreline are covered with white sandy
beaches, and the island is dotted with mangroves and
marine sanctuaries, which offer a home for its pure
marine life.
On May 8, 2023, when we arrived at
the port in Siquijor, I was taken aback
by the surroundings. Considering that
this was only the beginning of our
journey, I couldn't help but wonder how
beautiful the following locations we
would go and visit. we are 3 people on a
trip so probably our budget estimated
around 20k including the transportation
like taxi go and fort, and the foods we
ate and the souvenir's we bought and
the condo were we stay. we only last 3
days in Siquijor, we visited Lazi which is
the place where we look for a land, oh,
almost forgot that we came to Siquijor
to look for a lot and at the same time
visited tourist spot in the place.

We have visited few beach front lot at

Lazi but this one got my attention, this is
so wonderful I wish I could Live here and
built a new Home, anyway its for my sister
not mine.

May 9, we wanted to
visit falls here in Lazi
so Uncle taxi driver
took us to the place
where he knows the
best where Tourist
mostly come and visit.

Upon walking down to the falls I already

heard people jumping and laughing I got
excited and finally we are here, but we
just look up because I really don't want to
swim I enjoy watching people doing their
bussiness and a little chat with my sister
and her partner. the cost going on that
falls is just 20 pesos and it is so
Affordable couldn't believe it.
I was so glad that I can able to visit and
see the beauty of Siquijor, May 10 is the
Day we leave, the place that got my
interest to live in. But my heart still in
Dumaguete, I have had a great great
time in Siquijor, I love to spend my
entire life on the beach where I can
Pray, talk and sing. I really love being
alone sitting in the white sand and
hearing the sound of the waves, the
howling winds, the sounds of the leaves
of a tree and that wish has come true.
I'd say bye bye for now Siquijor

The people here are one of the

aspect of this location that I
truly value. According to
rumors, Siquijor is a home to a
large population of
"mambabarang and witchcraft,"
which is why some people are
afraid to visit. That is untrue,
though, as Siquijor's residents
were generally kind. And for
that reason, they bring precious
from its location.

In conclusion, if you want to visit Siquijor on a tight budget,

you might consider renting a motorbike, you could also skip
eating at a fancy restaurant instead, go to a local cafeteria.
furthermore, talking about where you can stay try to
search/look in the internet or Facebooks for the cheapest
accommodation that would be comfortable for your
companions. And we that, you can now visit and explore
SIQUIJOR!
