L13 Vision Statement Reflection
Through writing this reflection I have realized how my personal values reflect out into
the world. My values are a true representation of who I am as a person for sure. The three most
important values for me are my faith, the time spent with my family, and how I show kindness to
others. In class on 3/28/23 we defined values as “the guiding principles based on established
beliefs and preferences” (Ortiz, 2023). Every day I do my best to uphold my values and let them
guide me. I want the world to really see me through these values and I look forward to using
The first value is my Faith. Many hide the fact that they believe in God. I am proud of
my faith, but I am not one to walk around and yell that from the roof tops. I hold myself
accountable to what I believe and that way if someone asks me why, I can tell them why. Don’t
get me wrong, I am not perfect in any way, but I do try hard to do the right thing and make sure I
hold myself accountable daily. My second value is the time spent with my family. For the last
five years my grandparents have lived with my mom, dad, and myself. This has been a special
time that not many get to have. I get to see them every day and somedays are difficult but mostly
it is great. My aunt and uncle live close by, so they stop by to see my grandparents and in turn I
get to so see them. My cousins and I are close, we have a special bond and do many fun things
together. One of my cousins had never been to Disney before, so my parents and I took her on
vacation with us. Watching her see the castle for the first time was a day we will always
remember, and we did that together. Whether spending time at our family cabin, holidays
together, traveling together, or just hanging out, I love spending time with my family. They get
me, all my quirky ways, and accept me for who I am, always. My third value is showing

kindness to others. Kindness is not easy when others are not kind back, but I am not kind to
receive kindness. I want to put a smile on someone else’s face because maybe they do not have
anyone else to do that for them. One of my most favorite quotes ever is, “Have courage and be
kind”, which is from one of my favorite movies, Cinderella (Kinberg et al, 2015). I use this
quote to remind me to be courageous and show kindness to others, even if they are not being
nice. I have been bullied a lot in my life. I think it is because I am different. My ADHD makes
it difficult for me to pay attention and make friends. But I know there are others like me and so I
have to keep pushing on always, showing kindness and respecting others not expecting anything
in return.
planner for children and young adults. This kind of work would bring happiness to me because I
enjoy spending time with people and have worked with younger kids before. I feel I could really
be a good influence on others if I am an Ethical Leader, “the influence a moral person has on
others to do the right things in the right way for the right reasons” (Ortiz, 2023). An impact I
hope to have in the world is to make a difference in other’s lives. By using the Expert Power
model “refers to knowledge and skills, competent because of training and abilities, and values
others input” I can make that impact positive while gaining respect from others (Ortiz, 2023).
Something that motivates me is when I receive kindness. While I do not expect it, it does
Makers, here on campus, I just feel really good, and I want to have a good rest of my day.
I truly believe my vision statement is, “I will live by faith, and not by sight, staying true
to myself and my family, and looking towards the future with hope for opportunities to grow”.
