Background of the study

Education is changing so fast that for schools and universities to cope with new innovations,
they should be at the same pace with the tempo of societal changes and technological
progress. The schools of today should participate in the educational and social revolution.
The curriculum in Philippine schools today has to be geared to the rapid societal changes
and the new responsibilities for the new breed of Filipinos. In response to the fast-paced
situation in education. This is an act enhancing the Philippine Basic Education System by
strengthening its curriculum and increasing its number of years and is also known as the
“Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013”, popularly known as K to 12. It involves the
manipulation of conditions for the purpose of studying the relative effects of various
treatments applied to the subjects of the study. In employing the descriptive research
design, a questionnaire-checklist was used as a tool in gathering data pertinent to the
research.

This study is concerned with determining the extent of effectiveness of the K-12 curriculum
implementation in primary and intermediate pupils. Hence, it looks into the existing
condition and the emanating culture in the locale of the study while the research is going
on. In light of the findings and significance of the study, the school administrators should
utilize the result and use it to enhance programs and activities in the implementation of K-
12. They should give work diligently with the Department of Education in the realization of
the goals of K-12 curriculum; work hand in hand with the teachers, parents, and students to
make the implementation of K-12 more effective; and consistently monitor how the
curriculum guidelines and policies are being observed and implemented.

The K-12 in the Philippines also known as republic act no. 10533 signed by former president
Benigno Aquino III and implemented by DepEd in various schools around the
Philippines, according (Du 2012), adding two years in high school. The goal of his republic
act is to ready the students to be globally competitive and life ready. The first batch of k-12
graduates of binmaley catholic school is achieve their dreams, in the implementation K-12 in
Philippines, the voice of the students is important in the aspects on effects and how
university does implemented it. With the use of searching some other ideas we will gather
the point of view of first batch of k-12 graduates in BCS in terms of their life now. This may
include knowledge provided. With this education offered to future students will be better
and improved may result to achieving the mission and vision of the university which is to
improve man as man, and be able to reach the goal of the republic act which life ready and
globally competitive student which may also leads to the improvement of the Philippines
(Abulencia 2015).

Statement of The Problem

The research gives the K-12 program uses high-standard instructional programs to build
student’s knowledge and skills in different subjects era, including courses that make them
employable as they finish high school students stand to benefits from better equipped
teacher’s as the government has line up continuation trainings and seminars for their
professional development.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

FOREIGN STUDIES

The Philippines being the only country in Asia with a 10-year basic education cycle has
recently shifted to a 12-year cycle last June 2012. This curriculum shift is called the k-12
educational policy (Cristol, 2014). According to the Department of Education of the Republic
of the Philippines, a 12-year program is found to be the best period for learning under basic
education. It is also the recognized standard for students and professionals globally.

The implementation of the K to 12 Program took almost six years. It was carefully studied…

The Philippines has embarked on this ambitious reform to align its education system with
most other systems around the world and to raise national competitiveness. The k to 12
program is viewed as a vital factor for ensuring that all Filipinos are equipped with the basic
skills required to play a full and productive role in society. It is also being driven by concerns
that overseas workers will lose out to migrant workers from other countries because of the
shorter basic education (Patrinos, 2016).

Despite calls to suspend the program, the government remained firm in proclaiming that this
new educational system offers opportunities for Filipino students and the national economy.
In fact, the government stated three of the many practical benefits of schooling under a 12-
year education cycle. First is that, K-12 program gives students formal preparedness for
tertiary learning, second is the development of readiness to join the workforce and the third
and last is the increased competency of students in the global job market(“Three practical
benefits of the Philippines’ k to 12 curriculum”…show more content…

Students face an entirely different set of challenges with peer pressure. Parents may notice
a change on how their child dresses or behaves at home. (Hamilton, n.d).These changes are
merely influences of the peer group a student is included. Specifically, peer pressure may
influence the way the student think or the way they make every decisions in life.

Peer pressure can be classified into two types, explicit peer pressure and implicit peer
pressure. Explicit peer pressure can be recognized easily as it involves physical action. On
the other hand, implicit peer pressure cannot be recognized easily as it commonly involves
the action of the brain. Choosing to be influenced by peer pressure may be the defensive
mechanism of students from bullying because as of the generation today, children pay great
attention to what others think about them. Senior High School is two years of specialized
upper secondary education; students may choose a specialization based on aptitude,
interests, and school capacity. The choice of career track will define the content of the
subjects a student will take in Grades 11 and 12. Each student in Senior High School can
choose among three tracks: Academic; Technical-Vocational-Livelihood; and Sports and Arts.
The Academic track includes three strands: Business, Accountancy, Management (BAM);
Humanities, Education, Social Sciences (HESS); and Science, Technology, Engineering,
Mathematics (STEM).

LOCAL STUDIES

The K to 12 Program covers Kindergarten and 12 years of basic education (six years of
primary education, four years of Junior High School, and two years of Senior High School
[SHS]) to provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners,
and prepare graduates for tertiary education, middle-level skills development, employment,
and entrepreneurship. Every Filipino child now has access to early childhood education
through Universal Kindergarten. At 5 years old, children start schooling and are given the
means to slowly adjust to formal education.

Research shows that children who underwent Kindergarten have better completion rates
than those who did not. Children who complete a standards-based Kindergarten program
are better prepared, for primary education.

Education for children in the early years lays the foundation for lifelong learning and for the
total development of a child. The early years of a human being, from 0 to 6 years, are the
most critical period when the brain grows to at least 60-70 percent of adult size..[Ref: K to
12 Toolkit]

In Kindergarten, students learn the alphabet, numbers, shapes, and colors through games,
songs, and dances, in their Mother Tongue. Examples, activities, songs, poems, stories, and
illustrations are based on local culture, history, and reality. This makes the lessons relevant
to the learners and easy to understand.

Students acquire in-depth knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes through continuity and
consistency across all levels and subjects.

Discussions on issues such as Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), Climate Change Adaptation,
and Information & Communication Technology (ICT) are included in the enhanced
curriculum. Students are able to learn best through their first language, their Mother Tongue
(MT). Twelve (12) MT languages have been introduced for SY 2012-2013: Bahasa Sug,
Bikol, Cebuano, Chabacano, Hiligaynon, Iloko, Kapampangan, Maguindanaoan, Meranao,
Pangasinense, Tagalog, and Waray. Other local languages will be added in succeeding
school years.

Aside from the Mother Tongue, English and Filipino are taught as subjects starting Grade 1,
with a focus on oral fluency. From Grades 4 to 6, English and Filipino are gradually
introduced as languages of instruction. Both will become primary languages of instruction in
Junior High School (JHS) and Senior High School (SHS).

After Grade 1, every student can read in his or her Mother Tongue. Learning in Mother
Tongue also serves as the foundation for students to learn Filipino and English easily.

CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY

This chapter will show the research methodology and procedures that will use in this study.
Also this chapter will show the research design of this study, the setting will be used
conducting this research.

Research design

Qualitative research design we will be used because we would like to know what first batch
of k-12 graduates life now, Phenomenological study we will be using because we would
like to know what is there going right now. Some method will be used, particularly
questionnaire and interview method. The questionnaire and interview method focuses on
opinionated and self-explanatory answers which is good in gathering data in terms of
perspective of students. To be specific we will use structured questionnaire with open ended
question.

Population and Locale of the study

The study will be conducted on Binmaley Catholic School Inc. which is ruling by two
principals for the junior high is Dr. Melissa and for the senior high is Ma’am Mary Lou. The
beauty of our school is to discipline our students when their our so loud o what.

Data Gathering Instrument

The instrument that we used for gathering data is Online Sources, we used online sources
because we want to know more possible happen in approaching the K-12 program this will
explain the function of K-12 program, how they that work or how did the K-12 program
work for the Philippines. Some of implement of K-12 program are united state, they have a
beautiful system while using K-12 program.

Data Gathering Procedure

Pick some trusted sites to conduct our data to complete our research study. The study will
be conducted in the second semester for the academic year of 2023-2024. The researchers
will use one research in the study. The researchers will use online sources for now because
for the G11 students they not allowed to interview because its to difficult to us, and for
some reason why did not conduct the interview cause where to much young to do that we
need more lot of experience to do interview on the people that about on our research.

Data analysis

The gathered data will be analysed use by one or manually. Through cool and warm
analysis. The data’s significant statements will be extracted first then it will be grouped and
sort then assigning theme will occur. The collected data will be analysed by extracting
significant Statement from the respondents. Simply yhe process of examining Qualitative
data to derive an explanation for a specific phenomenon. Qualitative data analysis to be
specific, warm and cool analysis gibes you an understanding of your research objective by
revealing patterns and themes in the data.

Validation of instrument

The instruments included in the review stood out for their content coverage and
measurement quality, and are recommended for future work: SN-EBP, QURBI, and SPUR.
This recommendation is informed by several features of these instruments. First, they each
cover all three URE themes of users, environments, and implementation and practices,
thereby providing adequate content coverage. In addition, both the QURBI and SPUR are
also explicitly linked to, and are designed to separately assess, each of Weiss’s (1979)
theoretically distinct types of research use. Second, they have been employed in large
samples ranging from a few hundred for the SN-EBP to several thousand for the QURBI, in
each case with response rates, suggesting they are feasible to collect in K-12 school
settings. Third, they provide evidence of both reliability and validity when collected in K-12
school settings, and the evidence for validity includes content, structural, and external (i.e.
convergent or discriminant) validity. Finally, each complete instrument is readily available in
either a published article (Adams & Barron, 2010; Lysenko et al., 2015). Our findings should
be interpreted in light of some limitations. First, the keywords we used in our search process
may have missed some articles that included URE instruments. However, we have tried to
ensure strong coverage of URE instruments by using multiple common terms for URE, using
a variety of field-related terms to capture articles in fields that may have published
instruments related to K-12 URE, and searching a large database that covers a wide range
of journals relevant to this topic. Second, the scope of our review focused only on
quantitative instruments in published literature on K-12 education. Thus, there may be
additional instruments that are qualitative, written about in unpublished sources like
technical reports, or instruments being implemented outside of K-12 education that would
be appropriate for measuring URE in this context. Future studies can build upon our review
by expanding their scope to include instruments in qualitative, unpublished, and non-K-12
literature. Future research may also explore additional search engines that index relevant
journals
