Program Senior Debate Level Seniors
As a part of the preparation, the students will discuss the format and different ways to debate in class. They will
organize a debate in the class well. Besides, the program coordinator leads the selected students to have deeper
research on the topic. The teacher also asks the students to prepare the debate format for the affirmative and
negative sides.

The program will take place in the auditorium hall. Students from grades 8 and 9 and their respective teachers will
be invited to the program.
What time will the program being and end?
The program should begin at 9:30 am sharp and may go on till 12 noon.
How will the program be conducted?

The logistic management team will be asked to make necessary arrangements for the program at least a day
prior to the program day.
The students will be coached by the English Department head
The students will put forth their views on the topic: Should nuclear energy be promoted as a solution to
reduce carbon emissions? They will be judged based on the format given. Finally, the result will be
announced based on their score accumulation. A minimum of three judges will be judging the debate speech.
Prior to calling the students to the hall, ask all the students to take their notebooks and pen with them. When the
debate competition is going on, they will be taking notes spoken by the speakers.
Finally, the students will be asked to write a position paper on the resolution as a part of the assignment.

Rules for Inter-House English Debate Competition (2080)
The speaker’s point must be original, supported with examples, and well-
structured.
The speaker’s argument must be accurate, relevant, strong, and convincing
to the listeners.
The speaker must speak clearly and confidently and make eye contact.
The speakers must not rush or drag out of the speech.
The Speakers will have 6 minutes to speak. Speaking too long or too short
will affect the score.
Warning bell will ring after 5 minutes. However, the warning bell for the
first speaker will be after 3:30 minutes, with 4 minutes allowed at the
beginning.
The first speaker will get 2 minutes at the last to comment on his or her
previous speakers.
The speaker is not allowed to criticize with a personal name, caste,
language, and religion.
The speaker is not allowed to mention the competitor’s name but rather
address him/her by the former speaker.
The participants will be judged on the basis of Organization & Clarity, Use
of Argument, Use of Cross-Examination and Rebuttal, Presentation Style,
and Overall Performance.
The final decision will be taken by the panel of judges or evaluation
committee.
