1.0 COURSE OUTCOMES


Upon completion, students should be able to:
CO1 Understand the basic structural theory and concepts; including the characteristics, design
requirements and method of construction of reinforced concrete structures, pre-stressed concrete,
steel structures and building enclosures.
CO2 Explore the concept, installation process and selection of innovative method of construction and
alteration, demolition and refurbishment works.

2.0 SYNOPSIS / COURSE DESCRIPTION


The course is designed to provide the students with the knowledge, understanding and skills in the
construction of high-rise or complex buildings. This course includes the concept and types of in-situ
reinforced concrete, pre-stressed concrete and steel structures and building enclosures, demolition and
alteration works. This course also covers innovative methods of construction, which include sustainable
materials and methods of construction.
