2.1.3 Sampling Technique

This is a study where our group is conducting a survey on 31 diploma students in UiTM
Mukah Cawangan Sarawak. We would like to investigate on Internet as social media usage
among the students in UiTM Mukah Cawangan Sarawak. Our group decided on using the
simple random sampling method as our sampling technique. The description below is how we
could apply this sampling technique for our research:

Step 1: Prepare a name list of diploma students.

Step 2: Assign their numbers on a spinning wheel website to represent each students.

Step 3: Spin the wheel 15 times, the names/numbers that had been chosen will be taken as the
respondents.

2.1.4 Data Collection Method

There are 5 data collection methods which are personal interview, telephone interview, direct
questionnaire, electronic questionnaire and direct observations. We rely on electronic
questionnaire (Google Form) to obtain our data for this study.

The advantages of this data collection method are it saves cost such as transportation and fuel
and respondents are given much time to complete the questionnaire. On the other hand, it also
comes with a few disadvantages which lead to a lower response rate and the lack of interest
to participate in the survey.
