1. About the Company: Cat Lai Port - Saigon Newport

 - Cat Lai Port - Saigon Newport the company is a specialized container port, newly
planned and built-in Cat Lai ward - District 2 - Ho Chi Minh City. Inland port in Thu
Duc city and Ho Chi Minh city, planned in 2025. CL port can be considered a sea
or river port.
This is the largest container port in Vietnam, with a total area of 160ha, 20,000 m2
of the warehouse, 450,000 m2 of the container yard, 973m of the wharf, and 12
shore cranes. Including 10 KE (Germany) cranes, 9 wharves, and 1 barge.
Minimum water level 8.5m plus- minus 3 tides, maximum capacity up to 3000 TEU
Cat Lai Port has become the largest container port in Vietnam.

2. History of Saigon Newport

- Cat Lai Port was built over many years, starting in

June 1996 and ending in 2002. The initial scale was
about 170,000m2, with two 150m-long berths that can
receive ships with a tonnage of over 20,000 DWT. To
attract tourists, Cat Lai has cooperated with the city to
build Interprovincial road 25 from Hanoi highway to Cat
Lai ferry.

businesses.

2.1 During your trip, you visited a warehouse. What kind of warehouse is that?

- There are 7 common types of warehouses in logistics activities (Bonded

warehouse/Cross-docking/Tax-suspension warehouse/CFS – Container
warehouse/Airport warehouse/Public warehouse/Private warehouse) . At Cai Lai,
there are 4 warehouses 1, 2, 3, and 5. All 4 warehouses are CFS warehouses with
many types of warehouses to store goods such as cool storage from 18 degrees
to 20 degrees. Cat Lai has a warehouse for storing timber, heavy goods, and food
materials.
- Tan Cang Cat Lai CFS warehouse is one of the largest CFS warehouses in
Vietnam, built to serve the logistics activities of Tan Cang Cat Lai port in Ho Chi
Minh City. Ho Chi Minh. CFS warehouse is a warehouse system for transporting
goods and managing goods commonly used in the logistics industry. CFS stands
for "Container Freight Station". CFS is a system of warehouses and yards used to
collect and separate retail goods, also known as LCL (Less than container load).
- Goods stored in CFS will be diversified (except for goods such as counterfeit
goods, counterfeit goods, prohibited goods, dangerous goods, ...)

- Warehouses are transported by the method of stacking shelves, storing goods by

2.2 Describe the process of receiving and loading goods into that warehouse
by forklift?
- The warehouse operates with a stacking system, where each shelf has a capacity
of 300kg and is numbered with different positions. Heavy goods will be arranged
in the lower positions, while lighter goods will be placed in higher positions. When
goods are placed on a shelf, the corresponding shelf code will be entered into the
warehouse management system for easy retrieval and gathering of the required
quantity of goods.
- When goods are transferred into the warehouse, they will be packaged and
assigned a unique code. Each forklift will be equipped with a screen to manage
the location of goods. The forklift will scan the code to obtain information about the
type and specific quantity of goods, ensuring that the required quantity of goods is
transported.
- In some cases, for some customers who have ordered a specific quantity of goods
in a certain position, the goods will be placed in that position. In addition, if
customers do not pre-order a fixed position, the goods will be placed randomly.

1. Receiving the goods: When a shipment of goods arrives at the warehouse, the first

appropriate storage areas.
3. Identifying the storage location: Before loading the goods onto the forklift, it is
important to identify the correct storage location in the warehouse. This can be

4. Loading the goods onto the forklift: With the storage location identified, the goods
can be loaded onto the forklift. This involves positioning the forklift next to the pallet
or container holding the goods and using the forklift’s arms to lift and secure the
load.

forklift, the operator can drive the forklift to the designated storage location in the
warehouse.
6. Storing the goods: Once the forklift has reached the storage location, the operator
will use the forklift’s arms to carefully place the goods onto the designated storage
area. It is important to ensure that the goods are securely placed and that they are
not blocking any other goods or pathways.
7. Recording the location: After the goods have been stored, it is important to record
their location in the warehouse inventory management system. This will help
ensure that the goods can be easily located and retrieved when needed.

3 How many maritime routes can cargo ships from Cat Lai take?
