PART 2
Day 2
• Voltage is the pressure from an electrical circuit's power source
that pushes charged electrons (current) through a conducting
loop, enabling them to do work such as illuminating a light.
CURRENT - Current is flow of electron
• Ampere is a unit of measure of the rate of electron flow (or
current) in an electrical conductor.
• Ohm is defined as an electrical resistance between two points
of a conductor
• watt is a unit of power. P=VI
• Wavelength is the distance between identical points (adjacent
crests) in the adjacent cycles of a waveform signal propagated
in space or along a wire.
• Frequency is the number of occurrences of a repeating event
per unit of time.
Or simply cycle per second

Basic Radio principles
• The principle of Radio Communication can be
illustrated by using a simple Transformer as shown in
figure using the switch in the primary circuit causes the
lab in the secondary circuit to be eliminated operating
the switch extinguishes the light
• There is no direct connection between the primary and secondary
circuit. the energy that illuminates the light is transmitted by an
alternating electromagnetic field in the core of the transformer. This is
a simple form of wireless control of One circuit by another circuit .
The basic concept of Radio Communication
involves the transmission and reception of
electromagnetic (radio) energy waves through
space. Alternating current passing through a
conductor create electromagnetic field around the
conductor
• Alternating current passing through a conductor
creates electromagnetic fields around the
conductor
A conductor radiating in this manner called
transmitting antenna

Radio waves travel at a speed of approximately

186000 miles per second or 3×10⁸m/s
What is antenna ?

An antenna is a device made of wire designed

to radiate a changing electric field or
changing magnetic field when powered by a
high frequency AC source
or intercept and electromagnetic field and
convert it to an AC voltage or current
Basic equipment component
• Basic component of a communication system are microphone,
transmitter, transmitting antenna, receiving antenna, receiver and
headset or loudspeaker
Radio Frequency propagation- is the behavior
of Radio waves as they travel, or are propagated,
from one point to another, or into various parts of
the Atmosphere.

VHF airborne communication set operate in the frequency range

from 108.0MHz to 135.95MHz
The most common Communication system in use today is
VHF system

Many airborne vhf and HF communication system use

transreceivers a transreceiver is a self-contained
transmitter and receiver which share common circuits i.e,
power supply, antenna, and tuning. The transmitter and
receiver both operate on the same frequency and the
microphone button determines when there is an output
from the transmitter. In the absence of transmission the
receiver is sensitive to incoming signals.
