sugar in water is about 25g per 100ml of water [ choose any one as answer ]
b) (i) Amount of sugar used / mass of sugar used (ii) amount of sugar dissolved in water (iii)
Amount of water used
c) Add more water / Heat up the solution when adding sugar / Keep stirring the solution when
adding sugar [ any one ]
16. Answer as following
a) (i) Presence of air/oxygen (ii) Rusting of nail (iii) Type of Iron nail used
b) Iron nail from test tube 1 will rust
c) Iron nail get rusted because there is presence of oxygen/air and water
17. Answer as following
a) Folded cloth dry slower under sun compared to unfolded cloth / area of cloth exposed
under the sun will affects the time taken for cloth to dry completely
b) (i) Cloth is folded or not folded (ii) The time taken for cloth to get dried (iii) Type of cloth
used / same wetness of cloth
18. Answer as following
a) (i) Weight of pendulum (ii) Length of the pendulum (iii) The time taken for the swing of
pendulum
b) The longer the length of the pendulum , the longer the time taken for the swing of
pendulum.
[Tips: Hypothesis writing format Eg: The higher the MV , The higher the RV ]
MV = Manipulated Variable
RV = Responding Variable

c) Repeat the experiment and take average value , this increases the accuracy of reading and
reduce the error.

Experiment : (pg5)

Hypothesis : The longer the length of pendulum, the longer the period of oscillations
Manipulated variables : Length of pendulum
Respondign variables : Time taken for 10 oscillations
Constant variables : weight of pendulum
Observation and record : ( I took it from one of the group )
Length of pendulum (cm) 20 30 40 50 60
Time taken Reading 1 10 12 14 14.5 15.6

oscillations

Plot a graph ( Plot = draw using graph paper / draw = draw on any foolscape paper )

Length of pendulum

DIscussion:

1. The longer the length of pendulum , the longer the period of oscillation of a pendulum.
[ Hpothesis/relationship answer format ] : The longer the MV , The longer the RV
2. 1.8s ( Find the coordinate of point when length of pendulum is 70 from graph and refers to the
Y-axis )
3. To increase the accuracy of result and reduce errors
4. Because the mechanical energy inside pendulum is used up
5. Hypothesis is accepted. The longer the pength of pendulum, the longer the period of oscillation
of a pendulum.

9. Answer as following ( Answer display from left to right )
a) Test tube ; Boiling tube
b) Beaker ; conical flask
c) Measuring cylinder
d) Burette ; pipette
e) Filter funnel
f) Evaporating dish
g) Bunsen burner
h) Wire gauze
i) Tripod stand
j) Test tube holder
k) Crucible tongs
l) Gas jar
m) Retort stand and clmap
n) Crucible and lid
o) dropper
10. Answer as following
a) To measure temperature
b) To enlarge small objects
c) To magnify specimen
d) To measure mass
e) To condense vapour to liquid
f) To measure time
g) To place test tubes or boiling tubes
h) To measure electric current
11. Answer as following
a) Blue-coloured / non-luminous
b) Yellow
c) Non-luminous flame
d) (1) Produce more energy and therefore has greater heating effect and efficiency (2) less
sooty flame as in less smoke produced during heating
12. Can refers to text book pg29 , Fig 2.11
13. Answer as following
a) Poison / Poisonous / toxic
b) Radioactive
c) Corrosive
d) Irritative
e) Highly flammable
f) explosive
14. Answer as following
a) True
b) True
c) True
d) True
e) True
f) True
15. Rinse the affected skin area with cold water / tap water.
16. When transferring liquid in laboratory , Siao Ping is not suggested to pour directly. She need to
use a funnel , pouring the liquid from reagent bottle into a beaker through the funnel. This is to
prevent spillage of liquid from reagent bottle.
17. Use every apparatus that is provided.
a) Set-up tripod stand and wire gauze
b) Put bunsen burner below the tripod stand
c) Put beaker directly above bunsen burn (middle is
wire gauze)
d) Liquid from reagent bottle is labelled with highly
flammable so we cant heat it directly , we need to
pour it into a boiling tube or test tube
e) Test tube containing flammable liquid is put into
beaker and fully immersed with tap water
f) Beaker filled with tap water
g) Start the heating by turning on bunsen burner
h) When bunsen burner is turned on , water in beaker is
first heater (by direct contacting with the fire) , then
the heat energy will be transferred into the flammable liquid placed inside test tube ( This is
known as uniform heating)
18. Inside the picture only have 7 label , so 7 mistake done by the students in lab are:
1) Chit-chatting with other student while the tap water of the basin is remained open and keep
flowing.
2) There is spillage of chemical substance from the test tube in front of her but she is not taking
any action. Also, during experiment , books should be cleared from the table. She still
holding books.
3) Eating inside laboratory is prohibited
4) Crossing seat , away from her own table. Talking and disturbing other student that is still
doing experiment
5) Talking to other student , not focus on his own experiment. He is also not using a test tube
holder when heating a test tube. He soon will get burnt because the test tube will
eventually turns hot under heating
6) Talking to other student and not clearing the book on lab table during experiment.
Furthermore, the book is held too close to the fire source , it might get ignited and burnt.
7) Away from own lab table and seat , wandering inside lab and playing around
8) Not found inside picture ( Only 7 mistakes )

Experiment

Q1. the labeling of bunsen burner

Pg 15:

Discussion:
1(a) Lacks of air and oxygen causing incomplete combustion happens.
1(b) Adjust the air shutter of stove to allow more air entering the stove
2(a) the clamp of retort stand is not suitable for holding thermometer
2(b) the reading will get inaccurate if the mercury bulb touches the base of the beaker. It must be put
at the middle of beaker or solution that is being heated.
