Chapter 3

Methodology

This chapter contains the Methodology of the study. It includes seven parts: Research

Design, Study Locale, Respondents of the study, Research Instruments, Data Gathering

Procedure and Data Analysis.

Research Design

Descriptive Research design was utilized in this study which aims to describe, identify and

document that made use of data gathering for analysis and interpretation of the results.

Study Locale

The study was conducted in Barangay Ortiz. This barangay is located at Iloilo City Proper,

Iloilo City, Panay.

Respondents of the study

The respondents of the study are the 20 families consisting of Parents and/or Guardian and

Children Under 5 Years Old in Barangay Ortiz, Ilo-ilo City.

Research Instruments

Quantitative research is the process of collecting and analyzing numerical data. It can be used

to find patterns and averages, make predictions, test causal relationships, and generalize results

to wider populations (Bhandari, 2020). Quantitative methods emphasize objective measurements

and the statistical, mathematical, or numerical analysis of data collected through polls,

questionnaires, and surveys, or by manipulating pre-existing statistical data using computational

techniques (Babbie et al., 2010).

Quantitative survey questions or survey questionnaires are defined as objective questions

used to gain detailed insights from respondents about a survey research topic. The answers

received for these quantitative survey questions are analyzed and a research report is generated

on the basis of this quantitative data. These questions form the core of a survey and are used to

gather numerical data to determine statistical results (QuestionPro). Close-ended questionnaire

response is already prepared and just chosen from options given by the researcher. It is time

saving, easy to tabulate and summarize results but responses are limited to those already

provided by the researcher. 5-Point Likert Scale A type of psychometric response scale in which

responders specify their level of agreement to a statement typically in five points: (1) Strongly

disagree; (2) Disagree; (3) Neither agree nor disagree; (4) Agree; (5) Strongly agree (Preedy et

al., 2010).
Data Gathering Procedure

Prior to the conduct of the study, the researcher secured a letter of permission from the School

Dean. Each copy of the researcher-made questionnaire was distributed to each child under 5

years old together with their parents/guardian .

Furthermore, the researcher made sure that all the responses were treated with utmost

confidentiality. The respondents were given an opportunity to withdraw as respondents of the

study anytime if they do not feel comfortable with it.

After all questionnaires were answered, the researcher collected the questionnaires from the

respondents.
