Objects to be Measured in Animation

BACKGROUND INFORMATION FOR LEARNERS

In this lesson, it demonstrates an understanding of the concepts and underlying principles

of performing measurements and calculation. It includes an object/s to be measured in Animation.

WHAT IS MENSURATION?

Mensuration is a process of measurement. It is based on the use of numerical calculations

to provide measurement data regarding the width, depth and volume of a given object or character.
While the measurement results obtained by the use of mensuration are estimates rather than actual
physical measurements, the calculations are usually considered precise.

Types of components and objects to be measured:

Memory – A form of electronic storage, it is used most often to

identify fast, temporary forms of storage. Most forms of memory are
intended to store data temporarily. It can be Read-only memory (ROM),
which contents will not be erased or changed by normal means and the
instructions are directly accessed by the CPU and Random access memory
(RAM) is the temporary storage for data and programs that are being
accessed by the CPU. It is a volatile memory, which means that the contents
are erased when the computer is powered off.

Data storage capacity- Storage drives read or write information on magnetic or optical
storage media.
Floppy Drive - or floppy disk drive, is a storage
device that uses removable 3.5-inch floppy disks. These
magnetic floppy disks can store 720 KB or 1.44 MB of data.

A hard drive, or hard disk drive - a magnetic

storage device that is installed inside the computer. The hard
drive is used as permanent storage for data. The storage
capacity of a hard drive is measured in billions of bytes, or
gigabytes (GB). The speed of a hard drive is measured in
revolutions per minute (RPM). Multiple hard drives can be
added to increase storage capacity.

Optical Drive - a storage device that uses lasers to

read data on the optical media. There are three types of
optical drives: Compact Disc (CD), Digital Versatile Disc
(DVD) and Blu-ray Disc (BD).

A processor (CPU) is the logic circuitry that

responds to and processes the basic instructions that drive a
computer. The CPU is seen as the main and most crucial
integrated circuitry (IC) chip in a computer, as it is
responsible for interpreting most of computers commands.

Video card A video card (a graphics card, display

card, graphics adapter, or display adapter) is
an expansion card which generates a feed of output images
to a display device and connects to a computer motherboard.
