Summary and Impressions: Did this article help you to understand the topic being studied or
tested? What implications does it have for you in your future practice?

The article was really helpful in the current research direction that I am pursuing. The discussion on
Open Learning Analytics (OLA) was very comprehensive and different perspectives were reflected. I
have learned that the field of Learning Analytics focuses primarily on the methods that are used to
analyze and detect trends and patterns within the data and leverage that set of methods to bridge the
gap on the learning experience.

In terms of its relevance, this discipline provided relevant insights as to how we can come up with a
better option especially in the decision making at the institution level. Learning analytics can be the
solution to address the varying learning needs of our students and the changing demands of the
curriculum that we are using. Its application can guarantee an evidence-based approach to further
the learning experience and strengthen the pedagogical approaches among universities.
Another concept that really struck me is the idea of openness. This concept as applied to Learning
Analytics is quite new and there are only a few studies which conduct its systematic review. Muslim et
al. (2020) revealed the key requirements for effective open learning analytics by systematically
reviewing the various literature and conducting analyses on the identified five emerging open learning
analytics frameworks. The results of the study identified the key challenges and future perspectives
which could lead to the development and further research in this field. This study addresses the set of
requirements or criteria which are framed on the What, Who, Why, How, and the set of attributes
that assesses the Open Learning Analytics platforms. Indeed, these findings can be beneficial in the
research direction that I am currently pursuing.
