Basically ergonomics is about


designing for people. It is the
process of arranging
workplaces, products and
systems so that they fit the
employees who use them.

Is the position of your keyboard and
mouse right?
Do you have an adjustable monitor to
reduce eyestrain?
Is there a presence of noise control
mechanism in your office?

Does your chair support your spinal
curves?
Are you able to have footrest?
Does your desk have the right height?

The goals of ergonomics are to provide a


positive working environment in which the
design of equipment, work layouts and work
environment matches the capabilities of
people so they can be healthy and
productive as well.
When you become a manager and has a task
to do ergonomics, you have to increase your
awareness of existing and potential
ergonomic issues.

LIGHTING

A poor lighting can directly


affect someone's
performance at work
because it can cause strain
in the eyes.
It can also lead to eye illness
and headaches.
COLOR
The color of an office has a
tremendous impact on the
over-all mood of the
workplaces. The mood
affects the productivity and
motivation of all the
employees.
NOISE
Sounds in the workplace must be
monitored to ensure that
employees are able to function
well. If your employees are
stressed out and there is too much
exposure to certain noises in the
ofice, it can trigger a stress
responce in the body and can
cause health issue like high
hypertension
AIR CONDITIONING
By having an efficient air
conditioning system in an office,
you can help create a comfortable
working environment for your
employees and increase their
motivation levels during hot
period of the year.

When you provide your
employees with chair and
working tables that are
ergonomically-designed, they
will be more comfortable that

SAMPLES ON HOW TO MAKE YOUR WORKPLACES
ERGONOMICALLY COMPLIANT.
1. Upper frame of the screen should be of the same height as
eyes.
2. The distance between the screen and the eyes should be 65-
75cm.
3. The back support of the chair should not be too flexible to fit
lower natural back arch.
4. Have your shoulder relaxed. A chair that can provide confort
for your shoulders is advisable.
5. the angle of the elbows should be 90-100 degrees.
6. Also, the angle of the hip should be 90-100 degrees.
7. The height of the chair should be adjusted to the person's
height and the table.
8. The angle of the knees should be 90-100 degrees,
9. The feet should be flat on the floor.
10. The wrist should be in straight line with the forearm.
11. The keyboard tray should be lower than the table and not
touching the knees.
