Understanding Generations & Demographics - Gen Z

Purpose:
What does it mean to you to be part of Generation Z? This is your life! Last class you learned
what it meant to grow up as a baby boomer. Now it’s your turn. Time to step away from your
electronics and take some time away from the screen.

Learning Goals:
C1. Demographics: demonstrate an understanding of the importance of demographics as a tool
for studying social patterns and trends, both nationally and globally
C2. Forces that Shape Social Trends: demonstrate an understanding of how forces influence and
shape social patterns and trends

Task:
Step 1:
Bumper Sticker: Demonstrate your creativity by designing a bumper sticker that exemplifies
your generation. What does Generation Z mean? It must be created by hand. Use the attributes
that experts deem your generation to have. If you wish, create some sort of slogan or statement
along with a visual. I can appreciate that some of you don’t deem yourself very artistic however
my focus when assessing this is more focused on how much effort you put forth. I like to see
bumper stickers full of colour. If you don’t like coloring, use shading to create your look.

Step 2:
Write-up: After designing a bumper sticker, type two paragraphs. The first paragraph should
describe your bumper sticker. Be detailed. Imagine you’re telling someone about it that isn’t
able to view it. Write a second paragraph to explain the meaning behind your bumper sticker.
Be sure to clearly state why the bumper sticker represents your generation. Include your sources
as well if you’ve chosen to consult websites about your generation’s characteristics.
