Past Tense Continuous

We use Past Tense Continuous to talk about an action


that was in progress at a specific time in the past.

Structure - AFFIRMATIVE
SB + was/were + verb + ING
e.g. I was playing tennis at six o’clock.
We were jumping.

I/He/She/It + WAS + jumping.


We/You/They + WERE + jumping.

Past Continuous goes by the rule of Present Continuous,


the difference being that the verb TO BE is in the PAST!!!
Take a look at these examples!
e.g. He is playing the piano. (El cântă la pian.)
He was playing the piano. (El cânta la pian.)
NEGATIVE
SB + wasn’t/weren’t + verb + ING
e.g. He wasn’t swimming in the ocean.
We weren’t dancing at school.

INTERROGATIVE
Was/Were + SB + verb + ING ?
e.g. Was he playing computer games?
Were you teaching them?

The equivalent of Past Continuous in Romanian is


IMPERFECTUL.
I was walking on the street. (Eu mergeam pe stradă.)
He was writing a letter. (El scria o scrisoare.)
They were watching TV. (Ei se uitau la televizor.)
