PART 3_TEST 3:

32 - 34:
M-Au: Hello, I'm a guest here at the hotel. 32 I plan to do some sightseeing
today, and I have a question.
W-Br: Certainly. What can I help you with?
M-Au: I'm interested in visiting a couple of historic neighborhoods. 33What would
be a good way to travel around to see them?
W-Br: Well, you could rent a bicycle. There's a shop just down the street where
you can get one.
M-Au: Oh, that's perfect if it's not too expensive.
W-Br: 34I don't know what they charge, but I'd be happy to call them and find
out.

35 - 37:
W-Am 35The review of our restaurant is supposed to be in today's
newspaper. Have you seen it yet?
M-Au 35I read it before I came in to work. It's the first review in the
Entertainment section!
W-Am Really? I hope it had a lot of good things to say about us.
M-Au It did. In fact, 36I think we'll have a lot of new customers this week
thanks to the positive review. Especially since the reviewers really liked
our specialty desserts!
W-Am Well, 37then we'd better prepare more food. I'll order more ingredients
right away.

38 – 40:
M-Cn 38Welcome to Pavilion Appliance Store. How can I help you?
W-am Well, 39the handle on the door of my refrigerator broke off.
M-Cn Oh, that's not good. If you bought it more than a year ago, it's not going to
be covered by the warranty.
W-Am I know, I bought it three years ago. But I can fix it myself... I just need to
buy the handle.
M-Cn I'm sorry, but we don't sell replacement parts.
W-Am So, do you know of a store that does sell them?
M-Cn Well, 40 there is a Web site that sells appliance parts at good prices. You
could see if they have what you're looking for. It's called
AppliancePartsForYou.com.

41 – 43:
M-Au Hi. 41 I'm calling about your online leadership course. According to your
Web site, it's one of three courses required for your Professional
Certificate in Management. I'm not interested in the certificate, so can I
just take the leadership course?
W-Am Yes, but it's probably worth it to get the certificate. Have you seen our
online reviews? Most people who complete the certificate program are very
satisfied.
M-Au Yes, 42I have a friend who got the management certificate through your
program. It's really helped her in her career.
W-Am Well, 43if you're worried about the cost, you might qualify for a
reduced course fee. Would you like me to look into that for you?

41 – D; 42 – B; 43 – A

44 – 46:
W-Br Hi, Carlos. 44, 45Did you see the e-mail from the manager? Our fitness
center's going to stay open 24 hours!
M-Au Yes, I read it. 45 The e-mail said the new hours will start next month. I
think it'll make our members very happy. They've wanted later hours for a
while.
W-Br Definitely. The manager also asked us to make some signs and post them
around the gym so members are aware of this change.
M-Au 46I have some time now. I'll get started making those signs right away.

44 – B; 45 – D; 46 – A

47 – 49:
M-Cn Adam, 47I just got a message to come to the factory floor. 48Is something
wrong?
M-Au 47,48 There's a problem with the last few desks that came off the
production line. Look at this one-the top surface of the desk is loose
because no glue was applied from the machines.
M-Cn Carol-could you join us for a minute? Can you check the glue machines on
your team's part of the assembly line? They probably need a refill.
W-Am OK. I'll shut them down and take a look. We should be back in service
within an hour.
M-On Good. 49 This afternoon at one o'clock, some prospective clients will be
visiting. Everything needs to be running smoothly by then.

47 – B; 48 – D; 49 – A

50 – 52:
W-Br Hi, Gerard. Just a reminder, 50all proposals for this year's technology
conference have to be submitted by tomorrow.
M-Oh Yes, I know. 50I actually finished my proposal earlier today, but I haven't
been able to upload it yet... 51I think the Web site's down for maintenance.
W-Br Oh, I had the same problem-the Web site's really busy. You just have to keep
trying.
M-On In that case, 52 I think I'll go to lunch first and try again when I get back.
Would you like to join me?
W-Br 52Sure-let's go now.

50 – A; 51 – D; 52 – C

53 – 55:
M-Au Hi, Emiko. 53Welcome to Essen Accounting. I'm Amal Hassan, from
Human Resources. I'll show you around the office and introduce you to
the rest of the accounting team.
W-Am Nice to meet you, Amal. Do you know if I'll get my permanent ID badge
soon? 54I just have this temporary ID card, and this isn't the correct
spelling of my name.
M-Au Well, you can use that ID to move through the building today, but we'll ask
at the security desk later. Do you have any other questions before we start
the tour?
W-Am Um, 55I thought I'd get copies of my employee paperwork, but I haven't
received anything yet. Is there something I should do?
M-Au Oh, it normally takes a few days.

53 – D; 54 – C; 55 – B;

56 – 58:
W-Br Hi, 56your company must be new to this technology trade show, I've been
attending for years and I've never seen your booth.
M-Au You're right-57we're a new start-up company... We've developed a voice
recognition software program. It understands spoken commands and can
complete tasks.
W-Br Ah, I use a program like that. So... 58how's your program different from
all the others?
M-Au It's the most advanced digital assistant on the market. Here-come and meet
Antonio. He's our lead software developer.
M-Cn Hi, I'm Antonio. 58 Here's a brochure. If you turn to the second page,
there's an outline of the program's advanced features... You won't find those
features anywhere else.
56 – A; 57 – B ; 58 – D

59 – 61:
M-Au Noor! 59Exciting news! The company's board of directors chose our
research project to receive additional funding.
W-Br Oh that's great! M-Au I know. So, 60let's hire a new research assistant -
like we've been talking about.
W-Br Hmm, 60even with the extra money, our budget's going to be fairly limited.
M-Au But we need help cataloging all the data we're collecting.... You know, we
could offer some part-time hours to local university students.
W-Br You're right. 61I was on a project last year with some students, and they
did a good job.
59 – D ; 60 – D; 61 – A

62 – 64:
W-Am Hi, I'm here to pick up a cake for the Frayton Company.
M-Cn Hmm... I don't see that name here. Maybe the cake was ordered under an
individual's name? Uh... I have a Richard...
W-Am Oh, 62I'm not sure which of my coworkers ordered it, but it should have
the number 25 on it.
M-Cn Oh, it must be this one.
W-Am Yeah, that's it. 63 It's for our company's twenty-fifth anniversary
celebration tonight. We're very excited.
M-Cn OK, your total is 40 dollars.
W-Am 64Can I use my phone to pay?
M-Cn Sorry, we're not set up for that service yet.
It's just cash or credit card.
62 – C ; 63 – D; 64 – A
65 – 67:
M-Cn Hello, this is Samir from Rumsford Dental Clinic. I'm calling to confirm
your appointment tomorrow at eight forty-five.
W-Br Oh no! I forgot... 65I have a meeting tomorrow morning at work. Can I
reschedule for later in the day?
M-Cn Uh... let's see... We have another opening at three in the afternoon.
W-Br That's perfect, 66What's your address again?
M-Cn Actually, we've moved since your last appointment. We're still on Blevin
Road, but now we're at number 47, at the intersection with Shara Lane.
You'll see a café across the street.
W-Br Great, thanks. 66I'll be there tomorrow.
M-Cn And 67please arrive ten minutes early so we can update your records.

65 – C ; 66 – B; 67 – D

68 – 70:
W.Am Rohan, 68do you have a minute to look at this price list? It's for the
newspaper ad for the flower shop. We have to decide how large we want
our ad to be.
M-On Sure. Hmm, if we did a full page, we'd have to go with black and white,
because color would be too expensive.
W-Am You're right, but 69, 70 a color ad that shows our flowers will really grab
readers' attention.
M-Cn OK... well, 70in that case, what if we try a quarter-page ad? We've never
used newspaper advertising before, so it'll be a good way to see if it's
successful.
