LEARNING COMPETENCY:
Compare the planets of the solar system. S6ES-IVg-h-6
I. LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Cognitive
Identify the names of the planets in our solar system.
Psycho-motor
Draw an illustration of our solar system.
Affective
Label the planets correctly.
II. SUBJECT MATTER:
Planets in the Solar System
A. Concepts:
The word planet comes from the Greek word planetai which means “wandering”. Planets are
called such because they are always moving. At present, there are eight (8) planets in the
solar system. All these planets move constantly around the Sun at different rates or speed.
Planets rotate on their own axis as they revolve around the Sun. Planets have no light of
their own and that they only reflect light from the Sun.

E. Values Integration:
B. Engage:
Four PICS one Word
C. Explore
1.Setting of standard/Safety tips
2. Group Activity
On your answer sheets, identify the planets and write theirs names.
D. Explain
Teacher will elaborate the answer of each group.
E. Elaborate:
The Solar System is sun and everything that orbits around it. It includes the planets and
their moons as well as numerous asteroids and comets. These objects are all held in orbit
around the sun by the sun’s strong gravity.
Generalization:
Remember that planets are divided into two groups.
namely: the inner planets and the outer planets
the inner planets are smaller and are composed of rocks.
they have few or no natural satellites or rings circling them. The outer planets,
on the contrary, often have dozens of natural satellites and rings. They are
composed mostly of gases.
F. Evaluate:
Write SIX if the statement is correct and write your section if it is incorrect.
_____1. Planets comes from the Hebrew word “planetai” which means wandering.
_____2. There are eight planets in our solar system.
_____3. Planets produce their own lights.
_____4. Planets rotate on their own axis as they revolve around the Sun,
_____5. The inner planets include Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars.
G. Extend:
The solar system is a group of objects that interact with one another. The fundamental
factor in the interaction of each of the objects is the Sun. Based on the insights gained in
the lesson, how is understanding the Solar System and learning about space benefits Earth?
