The Ray of Light project is a family-

owned Columbarium that houses
approximately 400 vaults of funerary
urns. It is not just a resting place but a
memorial where families come together
to honor their loved ones for
generations.
The lighting brief for this Columbarium
was to reflect the family’s core values
and legacy. Values of integrity, stability,
and restraint, among others. Soft,
solemn, quiet, and elegant lighting subtly conveys this message.
The façade of the Columbarium is evenly washed using asymmetrical wall washers that
softly graze the entire structure’s travertine cladding, giving it a warm and soft glow.

LVLP is the current incarnation of an unbroken architectural practice founded in 1955

by Leandro V. Locsin (†), Philippine National Artist for Architecture. The firm is credited with
having produced many of the country’s most distinguished works of modern architecture.
Since 1955, the firm has designed over 33 public buildings, 75 commercial buildings, 6
hotels, 13 churches, several country clubs and museums, and more than 100 residences.
Andy Locsin joined the firm in 1990 and has been responsible for helping the Partners
establish its governance policy. He serves as an internal critic and design consultant on the
firm’s defining projects and as presenter for the firm’s complex and important work. He is
often at the forefront of the firm’s joint design efforts with allied collaborators, design
partners, and consultants. He earned a Master of Architecture from Harvard University
Graduate School of Design in Cambridge, Massachusetts (1989), after completing the double
major of Architecture and Eastern Art History from Wesleyan University in Middletown,
Connecticut (1984).B+abble is a series of talks on architecture in design initiated by Filipino
firm, Buensalido+Architects. B+abble 2021 was held via teleconference on October 22 and
23.

Legaspi Village, Makati, 1972 -
The Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque was

established in 1964[2] when the city was still a
municipality of Rizal province.[3] In August 1985, it
became the first cemetery to host a modern
crematorium in a memorial park setting,[4] having been
established a year after Pope Paul VI lifted the ban
on cremation for Catholics.[5] The cemetery became
part of a larger network of burial sites of Manila
Memorial Park, Inc. with five other cemeteries under
the Manila Memorial Park brand opened in other parts
of the Philippines.[3]
From December 2016 to August 2017, the Rizal Premier Chapel, a new funeral venue was
built.[6] The cemetery hosts a second older chapel.[4]
The Manila Memorial Park was plot setting in the drama film Yesterday, Today,
Tomorrow in 2011.

The hotel was designed by Leandro Locsin and a

British design consultant. The 18-storey building was
built on a site which was known as the Diamond
Triangle and opened in 1976. It had the first in-house
movie system in the Philippines.[3] Since 1996, the
hotel was known for its annual Chinese New
Year celebrations. These celebrations were cited
among the celebrations within Metro
Manila outside Binondo. In 2001, the hotel opened
The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, a luxury spa within its premises, becoming the first hotel in
the country to have done so.
