ABSTARCT:

Batteries today take up a lot of space and constitute a disproportionate half of the weight of a device. Paper batteries
can be an eclectic, ultra-technical discussion of how paper batteries work. Evaluate efficacy and explore the benefits of
recent developments in paper battery manufacturing. We can then review the many uses of paper batteries and
examine the moral issues that arise from them. [2] A thin energy storage and production device formed by combining
carbon nanotubes with conventional cellulose-based paper. There’s robust recent interest in ultrathin, flexible, safe energy
storage devices to satisfy the assorted style a and power desires of contemporary gadgets.

INTRODUCTION:

Paper batteries, by combining fullerenes with conventional cellulose-based papers,

have the potential to become versatile, ultra-thin energy storage and
production devices. A paper battery combines two parts with different unit areas in ancient
physics to act as both a high-energy battery and a supercapacitor. It contains nanoscale
structures that act as high surface area electrodes that enhance electrical conductivity.
[3]

OVERVIEW OF PAPER BATTERY:

Paper batteries are constructed using a spacer that is primarily made of cellulose. It

contains structures that act as high surface conductivity area electrodes for improved
electrical conductivity. Advantages of paper batteries: Paper batteries
are mainly made of carbon and can be used to power pacemakers inside the body. Paper
batteries can be used both as capacitors and as batteries. It is an ultra-thin
storage device. Biodegradable, non-toxic, biocompatible and economical.

NEED OF PAPER BATTERY:

 LITHIUM-ION BATTERY:

Lithium-ion batteries are the most commonly used batteries in

smartphones, laptops, digital cameras, and all types of consumer electronics.
It's basically a
, a rechargeable battery with a lithium negative electrode. [6] Known for its low self-
discharge, the
's high efficiency is expensive and poses safety concerns.
.

 NICKEL CADMIUM BATTERY:

These are the most commonly used batteries for

hybrid vehicles, satellites, novelties, and backup power. Problem: Batteries contain
highly toxic metals such as CDs. They have a negative temperature coefficient,
which causes charging problems. NiMH produces hydrogen gas that can destroy the
cell.

 LEAD ACID BATTERY:

These are the oldest rechargeable batteries and are widely used in large scale

applications such as backup power, automobiles, submarines and some hybrid
vehicles. [6] Related issues include electrolyte sulfation and stratification, plate
corrosion, and lead toxicity.

WORKING OF BATTERY:

Nanotubes, which act as electrodes, allow the storage device to conduct electricity. The

chemical reaction within the battery takes place between the electrolyte
and the carbon nanotubes. Batteries generate electrons through a chemical reaction
between the electrolyte of a conventional battery and a metal. For the chemical reaction
to continue, electrons must flow from the negative electrode to the
positive electrode. Ionic liquids, which are essentially liquid salts, are used as electrolytes
in batteries. The organic radical material in the battery is in an "electrolyte-infused gel"
state, roughly halfway between solid and liquid. This allows the ions to move
2/6
evenly, reducing resistance and charging the battery faster. You can stack one sheet on
top of another to increase the output. This is a single integrated device. The components
are molecularly bound. An imprint of carbon nanotubes is embedded in the paper
and an electrolyte is drawn into the paper.

ADVANTAGES OF PAPER BATTERY:

Lightweight and sturdy.

2. Environmentally friendly
3. Can be used as a capacitor.
4. These are more flexible.
5. Durability
6. Non-toxic

APPLICATIONS:[1]

1. IN ELCTRONICS:

Portable computer batteries, mobile phones and digital handheld cameras. The load on

these devices can be significantly reduced by replacing alkaline batteries without
compromise, greatly reducing the electrical hazards associated with charging

2. IN MEDICAL SCIENCES:

T It has great potential to extend the capabilities of portable power designs for

applications ranging from bio-instrumentation to consumer electronics to large power
systems powered by traditional batteries. The paper-like
properties of this material make it particularly attractive for energy storage in medical
implantable devices such as cardiac pacemakers, insulin pumps
and implantable wireless chips [5].

IN AUTOMOBILES AND AIRCRAFT:

Paper batteries area unit utilized in vehicles and craft like in light weight, radio- controlled missiles, hybrid
automobile batteries, long air flights and in satellite programs for powering electronic devices.

IN FUTURE:

It has great potential to extend the capabilities of portable power designs for applications

ranging from bio-instrumentation to consumer electronics to large power
systems powered by traditional batteries. The paper-like
properties of this material make it particularly attractive for energy storage in medical
implantable devices such as cardiac pacemakers, insulin pumps
and implantable wireless chips [5].

CONCLUSION:
One of the major problems plaguing the planet today could be the
energy crisis. Every country wants energy, everyone wants power. And this
problem plagues developed countries and worries developing countries like India
much more. We are standing in the present where a day without electricity is
impossible.

Toxic and flexible paper batteries have the potential adaptability to power the

next generation of electronics, medical devices and hybrid vehicles, enabling
radically new styles and medical technologies. However, India still has a long way to
go before it becomes self-determining of its energy solutions. Literature shows that
Indian researchers have acquired the scientific insight necessary for such
revolutionary work.
