15th OF SHA’BAN
The Holy Prophet ‫ صىل هللا عليه وآله وسلم‬has said that
during the night of 15th Sha’ban the Almighty
takes decisions in the matters of sustenance, life
and death and welfare of the people.
Of the blessings of this night is that at the dawn
of this night, was born the Leader of the Time
Imam Mahdi ‫ عجل هللا تعایل فرجه رالشیف‬in Samarra, Iraq in
the year 255 AH.

Merits of the Night of 15th Sha’ban
This night is extraordinarily honorable.

Imam Ja`far al-Sadiq ‫ عليه السالم‬has
narrated that when Imam Muhammad al-
Baqir ‫ عليه السالم‬was asked about the merits
of the fifteenth night of Sha`ban, he
answered, “It is the most favorable night
after the Qadr Night. At this night,
Almighty Allah bestows upon His
servants with His favors and grants them
His pardon out of His conferral of
benefits to them. Therefore, you should
exert all efforts to seek nearness to Him at
this night, because He—the Majestic and
Honorable—has decided not to reject any
asker as long as he does not ask for an act

of disobedience to Him. Almighty Allah

has chosen this night for us, the Ahl al-
Bayt, just as He has chosen the Qadr
Night for our Prophet—peace be upon
him and his Household. You should thus
pray and thank Him diligently.”
Imam Àli ibn al-Husain Zayn al-

Àbidin ‫ عليه السالم‬used to spend this whole
night with acts of worship, prayers,
supplications, invocations, and
implorations for forgiveness.
A tradition confirm that as for one who

spends this whole night with acts of
worship, his heart will not die when other
hearts die.

The first thing that that Salik (the

Wayfarer on the path towards Allah,
Glorified and Exalted is He) must
perform on this night is that he must
remove the material pleasures and
enjoyments of this world from in front of
his eyes (and from his heart) and in order
to make the most of this special night and
ensure that all of his actions are
performed properly, he must think to
himself that tonight is his last night on
this Earth (meaning that tomorrow he
shall die) and thus, he will no longer have
the opportunity to perform any more good
deeds and that tomorrow the Day of
Judgment will take place.

General Acts for the Night of 15th

Sha’ban
It is highly recommended to bathe

oneself at this night, for this act decreases
the punishment for one’s sins.
It is recommended to mention Almighty

Allah by the following litany 100 times so
that one’s past acts of disobedience to
Him will be forgiven and one’s worldly
and religious needs will be granted:
ُ‫ِال ٱللَّه‬
َّ ‫ال إِ ٰلهَ إ‬
َ َ‫د لِلَّهِ و‬
ُ ْ‫حم‬
َ ْ‫ٱللهِ وَٱل‬
َّ ‫ن‬َ ‫سُبْحَا‬
ُ‫وَٱللَّ ُه اكْبَر‬

All glory be to Allah, all praise be to Allah,

there is no god save Allah, and Allah is the
Greatest.

Salaah After Maghrib Prayers –

Recommended by Ulema for the
current Covid-19 Pandemic
According to Montakhab al Hasani it is

recommended to pray immediately
after Maghrib prayer, a 2 rakat in each
rakat after al Hamd recite 7 times Sura
Ikhlas after salam read this dua 21
times and do not talk to anyone until
recitation is completed throughout the
A’mal.
َ‫ وَ لَا َطاَقة‬, ‫م ذو أَنَا ٍة‬

ٌ ‫م حَلي‬
ٌ ‫ك عَلي‬
َ َّ‫ُم إِن‬
َّ ‫اَللَّه‬
‫حلْمِك‬
ِ ِ‫ك ب‬
َ ِ‫كم‬
ْ ُ‫لَنا بِح‬

O Allah, verily Thou art Sublime, Patient,

give respite (because) we do not have the
capacity to withstand the conditions that
take effect under Thy authority.
‫هلل‬
ُ ‫يا اهللُ يا اهللُ يا ا‬
O Allah! O Allah! O Allah!
‫مانأ‬ ‫أ أ أ أ أ‬
َ ‫مان اْل‬
َ ‫مان اْل‬
َ ‫اْل‬
Mercy! Mercy! Mercy!
ِ‫ت الْفُجَا َءة‬

ِ ْ‫ن اَلطَّاعونِ َو اَلْوَباءِ وَ مَو‬
َ ِ‫م‬
Safety from the rampant
epidemics, accidental death
‫أ‬ ‫أ‬
َ ‫َو سُو ِء الْقَضَاءِ َو شَماتَ ِة اْلعد‬
‫اء‬

evil events, and rejoicing of enemies at (our)

misfortune.
‫ب إِنَّا مُؤمِنون‬
َ ‫شفْ عَنَّا الْعَذا‬
ِ ْ‫رَبَّنَا اك‬
O our Lord take away from us the pain and
torment, truly we believe in Thy Mercy
‫برحمتك يا أرحم الراحمين‬

O the most Merciful!

Salwaat Sha’baniyah
It is recommended to say the following

form of invocation of blessings upon the
Holy Prophet and his Household that is
reported from Imam Àli ibn al-Husain
al-Sajjad ‫( عليه السالم‬i.e. Imam Zayn al-
Àbidin) each midday (Zuhr) in Sha`ban
and on the fifteenth night of it:

ٍ‫ُم صَلِّ َعلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّد‬

O Allah, (please do) send blessings to
Muhammad and the Household of
Muhammad;
ِ‫شَجَ َر ِة ٱلنُّبُوَّة‬

the tree of Prophethood,
ِ‫ع ٱل ِّرِسَالَة‬
ِ‫ض‬ِ ‫َومَو‬
the trustees of the (Divine) Mission,
ِ‫ف ٱْل َمالَئِكَة‬

ِ ‫َومُخْ َت َل‬
the frequently visited by the angels,
ِ‫ن ٱلْ ِعلْم‬

ِ ِ‫َو َمعْد‬
the core of knowledge,
ِ‫ت ٱلْوَحْي‬
ِ ْ‫ل بَي‬
ِ ْ‫وَاه‬
and the Household of the Divine Revelation.

Muhammad,

ِ‫ج ٱْلغَا ِم َرة‬

ِ ‫ج‬
َ ُّ‫ك ٱلْجَا ِريَ ِة فِي ٱلل‬
ِ ْ‫ٱلْ ُفل‬
the sailing ships through the abysmal waves.
‫ن َركِبَهَا‬
ْ َ‫يَامَنُ م‬
He who embarks on will be saved
‫ن تَرَكَهَا‬
ْ َ‫َوَيغْرَقُ م‬
but he who abandons will be drowned.
ٌ‫ٱْلمُتَقَدِّمُ لَهُمْ مَارِق‬

He who precedes them will miss the Right
Path
ٌ‫وَٱْلمُتَاخِّرُ عَنْهُمْ زَاهِق‬

and he who misses them will lose,
ٌ‫وَٱلالَّزِمُ َلهُمْ الَحِق‬

but he who adheres to them will win.

Muhammad,
ِ‫ف ٱلْحَصِين‬
ِ ‫ٱلْكَ ْه‬
the impregnable shelter,
ِ‫ث ٱلْمُضْطَرِّ ٱْلمُسْتَكِين‬

ِ ‫وَغِيَا‬
the supporters of the helpless, distressed
ones,
َ‫َو َملْجَإِ ٱلْهَا ِربِين‬

the haven of the fugitives,
َ‫صمِين‬
ِ َ‫صمَ ِة ٱلْ ُمعْت‬
ْ ِ‫وَع‬

and the asylum of those who seek refuge.

Muhammad
‫صَال ًة كَثِي َر ًة تَكُونُ لَ ُهمْ رِضًا‬

so many blessings that please them
ً‫د ادَاءً َوقَضَاء‬

ٍ َّ‫ل ُمحَم‬
ِ ‫وَلِحَقِّ ُمحَمَّدٍ وَآ‬
and settle all (our) duties towards
Muhammad,
َ‫بِحَ ْولٍ مِ ْنكَ َوقُوَّ ٍة يَا رَبَّ ٱْلعَاَلمِين‬

by Your might and power, O Lord of the
worlds!

Muhammad,
ِ‫ن ٱالبْرَا ِر ٱالخْيَار‬

َ ‫ٱلطَّيِّبِي‬
the pure, pious, and righteous
ْ‫ت حُقُوقَهُم‬
َ ْ‫ن اوْجَب‬
َ ‫ٱلَّذِي‬
whose rights have been made incumbent
upon us by You
ْ‫ت طَاعَتَهُمْ َووِاليَتَهُم‬

َ ْ‫َوفَرَض‬
and the obedience to whom and whose
(divinely ordained) leadership have been
(also) deemed obligatory upon us by You.

Muhammad,
َ‫وَٱ ْعمُ ْر َقلْبِي بِطَاعَتِك‬

and fill my heart with obedience to You,
َ‫ال تُخْ ِزنِي ِب َمعْصِيَتِك‬

َ َ‫و‬
do not disgrace me due to my acts of
disobedience to You,
ْ‫وَٱرْ ُزقْنِي مُوَاسَاةَ مَنْ قَتَّرْتَ َعلَيْهِ مِن‬

َ‫رِ ْزقِك‬

and grant me the feeling of sympathy

towards those whom You have decided to
straighten their sustenance
َ‫ضلِك‬
ْ َ‫ت َعلَيَّ مِنْ ف‬
َ ْ‫ِبمَا وَسَّع‬
by means of Your favors that You have
decided to make expansive for me
َ‫ن َعدْلِك‬
ْ ِ‫َونَشَرْتَ عَلَيَّ م‬
and by means of that with which You have
covered me out of Your fairness.
َ‫ِلك‬
ِّ ‫ت ظ‬
َ ْ‫وَاحْيَيْتَنِي تَح‬
Make me live under Your shade.
‫ك‬
َ ِ‫سل‬
ُ ‫َيدِ ُر‬
ِّ ‫ك س‬
َ ِّ‫وَهٰذَا شَهْ ُر نَبِي‬
This is the month of Your Prophet and the
Master of Your Messengers.

ِ‫حمَة‬
ْ َّ‫ك بِٱلر‬
َ ْ‫ن ٱَّلذِي حَفَفْ َتهُ مِن‬
ُ ‫شعْبَا‬
َ
ِ‫وَٱلرِّضْوَان‬
It is Sha`ban, which You have encompassed
with Your mercy and pleasure
‫ى ٱللَّهُ َعلَيْ ِه‬

ٰ َّ‫ٱللهِ صَل‬
َّ ‫ل‬ُ ‫ٱلَّذِي كَانَ َرسُو‬
َ‫وَآلِهِ َوسَلَّم‬
and on which the Messenger of Allah, peace
and blessings be upon him and his
Household,
ِ‫ب فِي صِيَامِهِ َوقِيَامِه‬

ُ ‫يَدْا‬
used to observe fasting painstakingly and
used to spend it with acts of worship

ِ‫فِي لَيَالِيهِ وَايَّامِه‬

on all of its days and nights
ِ‫ك فِي إِكْرَا ِمهِ وَإِعْظَامِه‬

َ َ‫بُخُوعًا ل‬
on account of Your honoring and dignifying
this month,
‫حمَامِ ِه‬
ِ ِّ‫إِلَىٰ مَحَل‬
up to his death.
ِ‫ن بِسُنَّتِ ِه فِيه‬

ِ ‫ى ٱإلِسْتِنَا‬
ٰ َ‫ُم فَاعِنَّا َعل‬
O Allah, (please do) help us follow the
example of him (i.e. the Holy Prophet as
regards the honoring of this month)
ِ‫ديْه‬
َ َ‫ل ٱلشَّفَاعَةِ ل‬
ِ ْ‫َونَي‬
and help us attain his intercession for us.

‫َفعًا‬
َّ ‫شفِيعًا مُش‬
َ ‫ج َعلْهُ لِي‬
ْ ‫اَللَّهُمَّ وَٱ‬
O Allah, (please do) decide him as my
interceder (before You) whose intercession
for me is acceptable
‫وَطَرِيقًا إِلَيْكَ مَهْيَعًا‬

and as my clear path toward You,
‫ج َعلْنِي لَهُ مُتَّبِعًا‬

ْ ‫وَٱ‬
and make me follow him
‫ك يَوْ َم ٱلْ ِقيَامَةِ عَنِّي رَاضِيًا‬

َ ‫ى الْقَا‬
ٰ َّ‫حَت‬
until I meet You on the Resurrection Day
enjoying Your pleasure with me
‫ن ُذنُوبِي غَاضِيًا‬
ْ َ‫وَع‬
and Your overlooking my sins

َ‫حمَةَ وَٱلرِّضْوَان‬
ْ َّ‫ك ٱلر‬
َ ْ‫د اوْجَبْتَ لِي مِن‬
ْ َ‫ق‬
and thus You will confer upon me with Your
mercy and pleasure
ِ‫وَانْزَلْتَنِي دَا َر ٱلْقَرَارِ َومَحَلِّ ٱالخْيَار‬

and allow me to reside in the Eternal
Abode and the Place of the Righteous.

Munajat Sha’baniyah

confidential prayer (munajat) that has
been narrated by Ibn Khalawayh who
commented on it, saying, “This is the
confidential prayer of Imam Àli Amir al-
Mu'minin ‫ عليه السالم‬and the Holy Imams
who used to say it in the month of
Sha`ban.”

َ‫ع دُعَائِي إِذَا دَ َع ْوتُك‬

ْ ‫س َم‬
ْ ‫وَٱ‬
listen to my prayer whenever I pray You,
َ‫ع نِدَائِي إِذَا نَا َديْتُك‬

ْ ‫س َم‬
ْ ‫وَٱ‬
listen to my call whenever I call upon you,
َ‫وَاقْبِلْ َعلَيَّ إِذَا نَاجَ ْيتُك‬

and accept from me whenever I
confidentially whisper to You,
َ‫ت إِلَيْك‬
ُ ْ‫د هَ َرب‬
ْ َ‫فَق‬
for here I am fleeing into You,
َ‫ديْكَ مُسْتَكِينًا لَك‬

َ َ‫ن ي‬
َ ْ‫ت بَي‬
ُ ْ‫وَ َوقَف‬
standing before You, showing submission to
You,

َ‫مُتَضَرِّعًا إِلَيْك‬
imploring You,
‫ك ثَوَابِي‬
َ ْ‫دي‬
َ َ‫رَاجِيًا ِلمَا ل‬
and hoping for the reward that You have.
‫َوَت ْعلَمُ مَا فِي نَفْسِي‬

You do know what is in my inner self,
‫َوتَخْبُ ُر حَاجَتِي‬
recognize my needs,
‫ضمِيرِي‬
َ ‫ف‬
ُ ‫َوَتعْ ِر‬
recognize my hidden affairs,
َ‫ك امْرُ مُنْ َقلَبِي َومَثْوَاي‬

َ ْ‫ال يَخْفَىٰ َعلَي‬
َ َ‫و‬

and all my moves and stillness are known by

You.
‫ئ بِ ِه مِنْ مَنْطِقِي‬
َ ‫د‬
ِ ْ‫ن اب‬
ْ ‫َومَا ارِيدُ ا‬
So are all the utterance which I want to
begin with,
‫ن َطلِبَتِي‬
ْ ِ‫وَاتَفَوَّ َه بِهِ م‬
all the requests that I want to express,
‫وَارْجُوهُ ِلعَاقِبَتِي‬
and all the expectation that I hope for my
future.
‫َيدِي‬
ِّ ‫ك َعلَيَّ يَا س‬
َ ُ‫د جَرَتْ مَقَادِير‬
ْ َ‫َوق‬
All that which You, O my Master, have
decided for me

‫ى آخِرِ عُ ْمرِي‬
ٰ َ‫فِيمَا يَكُونُ مِنِّي إِل‬
up to the end of my life,
‫ن سَرِي َرتِي وَعَالنِيَتِي‬

ْ ِ‫م‬
including my secret and open matters, shall
be experienced by me.
‫ك الَ بِيَدِ غَيْرِكَ ِزيَا َدتِي وَنَقْصِي‬

َ ِ‫َوبِيَد‬
And it is in Your Hand, not anybody else’s,
are all increase and decrease,
‫َونَ ْفعِي َوضَرِّي‬

and all my benefits and harms that come
upon me.
‫ن ذَا ٱلَّذِي يَرْ ُزقُنِي‬

ْ َ‫ن حَ َرمْتَنِي َفم‬
ْ ِ‫إِلٰهِي إ‬

O my God, if You deprive me (of Your

sustenance), then who else can ever provide
me with sustenance?
‫ن خَذَلْتَنِي َفمَنْ ذَا ٱلَّذِي يَنْصُ ُرنِي‬

ْ ِ‫وَإ‬
If You disappoint me, then who else can
ever back me?
ِ‫حلُول‬
ُ َ‫ن َغضَبِكَ و‬
ْ ِ‫إِلٰهِي اعُوذُ بِكَ م‬
َ‫سَخَطِك‬
O my God, I do seek Your protection
against Your wrath and against the befalling
of Your ire upon me.
َ‫حمَتِك‬
ْ َ‫ن كُنْتُ غَيْرَ ُمسْتَاهِلٍ لِر‬
O my God, if I do not deserve Your mercy,

َ‫سعَتِك‬
َ ‫ل‬
ِ ْ‫ن تَجُودَ َعلَيَّ بِفَض‬
ْ ‫ت اهْلٌ ا‬
َ ْ‫فَان‬
You are still expected to confer upon me
with Your expansive favor.
َ‫ديْك‬
َ ‫إِلٰهِي كَانِّي بِنَفْسِي وَاقِفَ ٌة بَيْنَ َي‬
O my God, I now imagine how I will stand
before You,
َ‫ن تَوَكُّلِي َعلَيْك‬

ُ ْ‫د اظَلَّهَا حُس‬
ْ َ‫َوق‬
shaded by my good idea about You on
account of my trust in You,
َ‫دتَنِي ِبعَفْوِك‬
ْ َّ‫ت ا ْهلُهُ وََتغَم‬
َ ْ‫فَ ُقلْتَ مَا ان‬
and You will decide for me that which befit
You and You will include me with Your
forgiveness.

َ‫ك بِذٰلِك‬
َ ْ‫ن اوْلَىٰ مِن‬
ْ َ‫ت َفم‬
َ ْ‫إِلٰهِي إِنْ عَفَو‬
O my God, if you pardon me, then who else
is worthier than You are in pardoning.
‫ك‬
َ ْ‫دنِنِي مِن‬
ْ ُ‫م ي‬
ْ َ‫د َدنَا اجَلِي وَل‬
ْ ‫ن كَانَ َق‬
ْ ِ‫وَإ‬
‫َع َملِي‬
If my time of death is approaching while my
deeds are still too short to approach me to
You,
‫ك‬
َ ْ‫ب إِلَي‬
ِ ْ‫إلقْرَارَ بِٱلذَّن‬
ِ ‫تٱ‬
ُ ْ‫جعَل‬
َ ‫د‬
ْ َ‫فَق‬
‫َوسِيلَتِي‬
I am then considering my confession of
being guilty to be my means towards You.

‫ى نَفْسِي فِي ٱلنَّظَرِ لَهَا‬

ٰ َ‫د جُرْتُ َعل‬
ْ َ‫إِلٰهِي ق‬
O my God, I have wronged myself when I
allowed myself to behave unrestrainedly;
‫ل إِنْ لَمْ َتغْ ِفرْ لَهَا‬

ُ ْ‫َفلَهَا ٱلْ َوي‬
therefore, woe will betide me if You do not
forgive.
‫حيَاتِي‬
َ ‫ك َعلَيَّ ايَّا َم‬
َ ُّ‫ل بِر‬
ْ ‫م يَ َز‬
ْ َ‫إِلٰهِي ل‬
O my God, You have never ceased Your
favors from me all over my lifetime;
‫ع بِرَّكَ عَنِّي فِي َممَاتِي‬

ْ َ‫ال تَقْط‬
َ ‫َف‬
so, (please) do not stop Your favors from
covering me after my death.
‫ن نَظَرِكَ لِي‬
ِ ْ‫ن حُس‬
ْ ِ‫س م‬
ُ َ‫إِلٰهِي كَيفَ آي‬

‫َبعْدَ َممَاتِي‬
O my God, how can I despair of Your nice
custody over me after my death
‫ل فِي حَيَاتِي‬
َ ‫جمِي‬
َ ْ‫ِال ٱل‬
َّ ‫وَانْتَ لَمْ ُتوَلِّنِي إ‬
while You have not shown me but the good
throughout my lifetime?
ُ‫ت اهْ ُله‬

َ ْ‫ن امْرِي مَا ان‬
ْ ِ‫إِلٰهِي تَوَلَّ م‬
O my God, (please) manage my affairs in
the very way that befits You,
ُ‫ذنِبٍ َقدْ َغمَ َره‬

ْ ُ‫ضلِكَ عَ َلىٰ م‬
ْ َ‫وَعُدْ َعلَيَّ بِف‬
ُ‫جَ ْهلُه‬

and confer upon me—a sinful who is

covered by his ignorance—with Your
favors.
‫د سَتَرْتَ َعلَيَّ ُذنُوبًا فِي ٱلدُّنْيَا‬

ْ َ‫إِلٰهِي ق‬
O my God, You have concealed my sins in
my worldly life,
‫ك فِي‬
َ ‫ى سَتْ ِرهَا َعلَيَّ مِ ْن‬
ٰ َ‫وَانَا احْ َوجُ إِل‬
ٰ‫ٱالخْ َرى‬
but I need Your concealment more urgently
in the Next Life.
َ‫م تُظْهِرْهَا احَدٍ ِمنْ عِبَادِكَ ٱلصَّالِحِين‬

ْ َ‫إِذْ ل‬
You have thus not disclosed my sins before
any of Your righteous servants;

ِ‫حنِي يَوْ َم ٱلْقِيَامَةِ عَ َلىٰ رُؤُوس‬

ْ َ‫ال تَفْض‬
َ ‫َف‬
ِ‫ٱالشْهَاد‬
therefore, (please) do not expose me on the
Resurrection Day before all the witnesses.
‫ط ا َملِي‬
َ ‫س‬
َ َ‫ك ب‬
َ ُ‫إِلٰهِي جُود‬
O my God, it is Your magnanimity that
expanded my hope,
‫ك افْضَلُ مِنْ َع َملِي‬

َ ُ‫وَعَفْو‬
and surely Your pardon is more preferable
than my deeds.
‫ن‬
َ ْ‫ك يَوْ َم تَقْضِي فِيهِ بَي‬
َ ِ‫إِلٰهِي فَسُرَّنِي ِبلِقَائ‬
َ‫عِبَادِك‬

O my God, so (please) delight me when I

meet You on the day when You shall judge
between Your servants.
ْ‫ك ٱعْتِذَارُ َمنْ لَم‬

َ ْ‫إِلٰهِي ٱعْتِذَارِي إِلَي‬
ِ‫ل ُعذْ ِره‬
ِ ‫ن قَبُو‬
ْ َ‫يَسْ َتغْنِ ع‬
O my God, I submit to You the apology of
one who cannot dispense with the
acceptance of his excuse;
‫ن ٱعْ َتذَ َر إِلَيْ ِه‬

ِ َ‫فَٱقْبَلْ عُذْرِي يَا اكْرَمَ م‬
َ‫ٱْلمُسِيئُون‬
so, (please) accept my excuse, O most
Magnanimous of all those before whom the
guilty make an apology.

‫إِلٰهِي الَ تَرُدَّ حَاجَتِي‬

O my God, (please) do not reject my
request,
‫ب َط َمعِي‬
ْ ِّ‫ال تُخَي‬
َ َ‫و‬
do not fail my big hope for You,
‫طعْ مِنْكَ رَجَائِي وَا َملِي‬

َ ْ‫ال تَق‬
َ َ‫و‬
and do not disappoint my desire and
expectation for You.
‫دنِي‬
ِ ْ‫م تَه‬
ْ َ‫ت هَوَانِي ل‬
َ ْ‫إِلٰهِي لَ ْو ارَد‬
O my God, had You wanted to humiliate
me, You would not have guided me (to
You).
‫م ُتعَافِنِي‬
ْ َ‫ت فَضِيحَتِي ل‬
َ ْ‫وَلَ ْو ارَد‬

Had You decided to disclose me, You would

not have saved me.
ْ‫ك تَرُدُّنِي فِي حَاجَ ٍة قَد‬

َ ُّ‫إِلٰهِي مَا اظُن‬
َ‫افْنَيْتُ ُعمْرِي فِي طَ َلبِهَا مِنْك‬
O my God, I do not expect You to reject my
request that I spent my whole lifetime
asking for it from You.
‫د ابَدًا ابَدًا دَائِمًا سَ ْرمَدًا‬

ُ ْ‫حم‬
َ ْ‫ك ٱل‬
َ َ‫إِلٰهِي َفل‬
O my God, all praise be to You, forever,
forever, perpetually, everlastingly,
ٰ‫د َكمَا ُتحِبُّ َوتَرْضَى‬

ُ ‫يَزِيدُ وَالَ َيبِي‬
increasingly, and unperishably, as exactly as
You like and please.

‫ك‬
َ ِ‫ك ِبعَفْو‬
َ ‫ذتَنِي بِجُ ْرمِي اخَذُْت‬
ْ َ‫ن اخ‬
O my God, if You punish me for my
offense, I shall demand with Your pardon,
َ‫ذتُكَ ِب َمغْفِ َرتِك‬

ْ َ‫ذنُوبِي اخ‬
ُ ِ‫ذتَ ِني ب‬
ْ َ‫ن اخ‬
ْ ِ‫وَإ‬
if You punish me for my sins, I shall
demand with Your forgiveness,
‫ت اهْ َلهَا انِّي‬

ُ ْ‫خلْ َتنِي ٱلنَّا َر ا ْع َلم‬
َ ْ‫ن اد‬
ْ ِ‫وَإ‬
َ‫احِبُّك‬
and if You decide to send me to Hell, I shall
declare to its inhabitants that I love You.
‫ك‬
َ ِ‫ب طَاعَت‬
ِ ْ‫صغُرَ فِي جَن‬
َ ‫ن‬
َ ‫ن كَا‬
‫َع َملِي‬

O my God, if my deed is too little when

compared to the true obedience to You,
‫ك ا َملِي‬
َ ِ‫د كَبُرَ فِي جَنْبِ رَجَائ‬
ْ َ‫فَق‬
then my hope for You is too big when
compared to my prospect from You.
‫ك بِٱلْخَيْبَ ِة‬
َ ِ‫ب مِنْ عِنْد‬
ُ ِ‫إِلٰهِي كَيْفَ انْ َقل‬
‫مَحْرُومًا‬
O my God, how can it be that I return from
You with disappointment and deprivation
‫ك انْ تَ ْقلِبَنِي‬
َ ِ‫ن ظَنِّي بِجُود‬
ُ ْ‫د كَانَ حُس‬
ْ َ‫َوق‬
‫بِٱلنَّجَاةِ مَ ْرحُومًا‬

while I expect, depending upon Your

magnanimity, that You will endow me with
safety and mercy?
‫د افْنَيْتُ ُعمْرِي فِي شِرَّ ِة ٱلسَّهْ ِو‬

ْ َ‫إِلٰهِي َوق‬
َ‫عَنْك‬
O my God, I have spent my whole lifetime
with the vigor of being negligent to You
َ‫سكْ َر ِة ٱلتَّبَاعُدِ مِنْك‬

َ ‫ت شَبَابِي فِي‬
ُ ْ‫وَاْبلَي‬
and I have spent my whole youth with the
inebriety of being far away from You.
‫ك‬
َ ِ‫ظ ايَّا َم ٱغْتِرَارِي ب‬
ْ ‫م اسْتَيْ ِق‬
ْ َ‫إِلٰهِي َفل‬
O my God, I have not thus woken up to
myself during the period when I seductively
felt safe from Your punishment

َ‫ل سَخَطِك‬
ِ ‫ى سَبِي‬
ٰ َ‫وَرُكُونِي ِإل‬
and when I was taking the path that ends
with Your ire.
َ‫م بَيْن‬
ٌ ِ‫إِلٰهِي وَانَا عَبْدُكَ وَٱبْنُ عَبْدِكَ قَائ‬
‫ك‬
َ ْ‫دي‬
َ َ‫ي‬
O my God, nevertheless, I am—Your
servant and the son of Your servant—now
standing before You
َ‫ك إِلَيْك‬
َ ِ‫ل بِكَ َرم‬
ٌ ِّ‫مُتَوَس‬
and begging You in the name of Your
generosity.
‫ت‬
ُ ْ‫ل إِلَيْكَ مِمَّا كُن‬
ُ َّ‫د اتَنَص‬
ٌ ْ‫إِلٰهِي انَا عَب‬

ِ‫اوَاجِهُكَ ِبه‬
O my God, I am, being Your servant,
disowning all that with which I used to face
You;
َ‫ن نَظَرِك‬
ْ ِ‫ستِحْيَائِي م‬
ْ ‫ن قِلَّ ِة ٱ‬
ْ ِ‫م‬
namely, my shameless inconsideration of
You,
َ‫ك إِذِٱْلعَفْ ُو نَعْتٌ لِكَ َرمِك‬

َ ْ‫ب ٱْلعَفْوَ مِن‬
ُ ُ‫وَا ْطل‬
and I am hereby appealing for Your pardon
since pardon is one feature of Your
generosity.
ْ‫ل بِهِ عَن‬

َ ‫ل فَانْتَ ِق‬
ٌ ‫م يَكُنْ لِي حَ ْو‬
َ‫َمعْصِيَتِك‬

O my God, I had no strength by which I

would rid myself of the acts of disobedience
to You
َ‫ت ايْقَظْتَنِي لِمَحَبَّتِك‬

ٍ ْ‫ِال فِي َوق‬
َّ ‫إ‬
except after You aroused me to love You.
ُ‫ن كُنْت‬
َ ‫ن اكُو‬
ْ ‫تا‬
َ ْ‫وَ َكمَا ارَد‬
Hence, I have become as exactly as You
want me to be.
َ‫ك ِبإِدْخَالِي فِي كَ َرمِك‬

َ ُ‫فَشَكَ ْرت‬
I have thus thanked You, for You have
included me with Your generosity
َ‫خ ٱْلغَفْ َلةِ عَنْك‬

ِ ‫ن ا ْوسَا‬
ْ ِ‫وَلِ َتطْهِي ِر َقلْبِي م‬
and You have purified my heart from the
filths of being inattentive to You.

َ‫ن نَا َديْتَهُ فَاجَابَك‬

ْ ‫إِلٰهِي ٱنْظُرْ إِلَيَّ نَظَرَ َم‬
O my God, (please) look at me in the same
way as You have looked at one whom You
called and he has responded to You
َ‫ك فَاطَاعَك‬
َ ‫وَٱسْ َت ْع َملْتَ ُه ِب َمعُونَ ِت‬
and whom You have conferred with Your
aid and he thus has obeyed You.
ِ‫ن ٱْل ُمغْتَرِّ بِه‬

ِ َ‫ال يَ ْبعُدُ ع‬
َ ‫يَا قَرِيبًا‬
O He Who is too close to depart from one
who is inadvertent to Him!
ُ‫َويَا جَوَادًا الَ يَبْخَلُ عَمَّنْ رَجَا َثوَابَه‬

O He Who is too magnanimous to deprive
one who hopes for His reward!

ُ‫دنِيهِ مِنْكَ شَ ْوقُه‬

ْ ُ‫إِلٰهِي هَبْ لِي َقلْبًا ي‬
O my God, (please) grant me a heart whose
longing for You will approach it to You,
ُ‫دقُه‬
ْ ِ‫ك ص‬
َ ْ‫ع إِلَي‬
ُ ‫وَلِسَانًا يُ ْر َف‬
a tongue whose truthfulness is directed to
You,
ُ‫ك حَقُّه‬
َ ْ‫َونَظَرًا يُقَرِّبُهُ مِن‬
and a sight whose righteousness advances
towards You.
ٍ‫ف ِبكَ غَيْرُ َمجْهُول‬

َ َّ‫ن َتعَر‬
ْ َ‫إِلٰهِي إِنَّ م‬
O my God, he who recognizes You shall
never be anonymous,
ٍ‫َومَنْ الَذَ ِبكَ غَيْرُ َمخْذُول‬

he who seeks Your shelter shall never be

disappointed,
‫ل‬
ٍ ‫ن اقْبَلْتَ َعلَيْهِ غَيْرُ َم ْملُو‬
ْ َ‫َوم‬
and he whom is attended by You shall never
be boring.
ٌ‫ن ٱنْتَ َهجَ ِبكَ َلمُسْ َتنِير‬

ِ َ‫إِلٰهِي إِنَّ م‬
O my God, he who abides by Your Path
shall be enlightened,
ٌ‫م بِكَ َلمُسْتَجِير‬

َ َ‫ن ٱ ْعتَص‬
ِ َ‫وَإِنَّ م‬
and he who resorts to You shall be succored.
‫ب ظَنِّي‬
ْ ‫َي‬
ِّ ‫ك يَا إِلٰهِي َفالَ تُخ‬
َ ِ‫ت ب‬
ُ ْ‫َوقَدْ لُذ‬
َ‫حمَ ِتك‬
ْ َ‫مِنْ ر‬

I am thus having recourse to You, O my

God! So, (please) do not disappoint me as
regards Your having mercy upon me
َ‫ال تَحْجُ ْبنِي عَنْ رَافَتِك‬

َ َ‫و‬
and do not divest me of Your kindness.
َ‫إِلٰهِي ا ِقمْنِي فِي اهْلِ وِاليَتِك‬

O my God, grant me, among those who
show servitude to You,
َ‫ن َرجَا ٱلزِّيَادَ َة مِنْ مَحَبَّتِك‬

ْ َ‫مُقَامَ م‬
the position of one who (incessantly) longs
for more love for You.
َ‫ى ذِكْرِك‬
ٰ َ‫ك إِل‬
َ ِ‫إِلٰهِي وَالْ ِهمْنِي وَلَهًا بِذِكْر‬

O my God, (please) inspire me with

passionate love for ceaseless reference to
You,
ِّ‫ح اسْمَاِئكَ َومَحَل‬

ِ ‫ح نَجَا‬
ِ ‫وَهِمَّتِي فِي رَ ْو‬
‫ك‬
َ ِ‫دس‬
ْ ُ‫ق‬
and (please) devote all my pursuit to my
attaining the delight of the success that is
achieved through Your Names and the
amount of Your Holiness.
‫ل‬
ِ ْ‫ِال الْحَقْ َتنِي ِبمَحَلِّ اه‬
َّ ‫ك إ‬
َ ْ‫إِلٰهِي بِكَ َعلَي‬
َ‫طَاعَتِك‬
O my God, I beseech You in Your name to
put me in the position of those who are
obedient to You

َ‫ى ٱلصَّاِلحِ مِنْ مَرْضَاتِك‬

ٰ ‫وَٱْلمَثْ َو‬
and in an honorable standing of Your
pleasure,
‫َفإِنِّي الَ ا ْقدِرُ لِنَ ْفسِي َدفْعًا‬

for I, verily, have no power to rescue
‫ك َلهَا نَفْعًا‬
ُ ِ‫ال ا ْمل‬
َ َ‫و‬
or to benefit myself.
ُ‫ف ٱْلمُذْنِب‬
ُ ‫ك ٱلضَّعِي‬
َ ُ‫إِلٰهِي انَا عَبْد‬
O my God, I am Your servant—the feeble
and sinful—
ُ‫ك ٱْلمُنِيب‬
َ ُ‫َو َم ْملُوك‬
and Your slave—the penitent.

َ‫ص َرفْتَ عَنْهُ وَجْهَك‬

َ ‫ن‬
ْ َّ‫ال تَجْ َعلْنِي مِم‬
َ ‫َف‬
So, (please) do not include me with those
against whom You have turned Your face
َ‫وَحَجَبَ ُه سَهْ ُوهُ عَنْ عَفْوِك‬

or those whom are deprived of Your pardon
because of their inattentiveness to You.
َ‫ع ِإلَيْك‬
ِ ‫ل ٱالِنْقِطَا‬
َ ‫إِلٰهِي هَبْ لي َكمَا‬
O my God, (please) grant me absolute
devotion to You
َ‫وَانِ ْر ابْصَارَ ُقلُوبِنَا بِضِيَا ِء نَظَرِهَا إِلَيْك‬

and illuminate the sights of our hearts with
the light of observing of You
ِ‫ب ٱلنُّور‬
َ ُ‫ب حُج‬
ِ ‫ق ابْصَا ُر ٱلْ ُقلُو‬
َ ِ‫ى تَخْر‬
ٰ َّ‫حَت‬

so that the sights of the hearts will penetrate

the Screens of Light
ِ‫ظمَة‬
َ ‫ن ٱلْ َع‬
ِ ِ‫ل إَِلىٰ َمعْد‬
َ ِ‫فَتَص‬
and arrive at the Core of Magnificence,
َ‫سك‬
ِ‫د‬ْ ُ‫َوتَصِي َر ا ْروَاحُنَا مُعَلَّ َق ًة ِبعِزِّ ق‬
and that our souls hang to the Majesty of
Your Holiness.
َ‫إِلٰهِي وَٱجْعَلْنِي مِمَّنْ نَا َديْتَ ُه فَاجَابَك‬

O my God, (please) make me of those who
responded to You when You called at them,
َ‫صعِقَ لِجَاللِك‬
َ َ‫ظتَ ُه ف‬
ْ َ‫وَالح‬
those who were shocked for Your Majesty
when You observed them

‫ك جَهْرًا‬
َ َ‫فَنَاجَيْتَ ُه سِرًِّا وَ َعمِلَ ل‬
and You have thus taken into their
confidence and they acted for You openly.
‫ط‬
َ ‫ن ظَنِّي قُنُو‬
ِ ْ‫ى حُس‬
ٰ َ‫م اسَلِّطْ َعل‬
ِ‫ٱاليَاس‬
O my God, I have shaded neither despair nor
gloom over my good idea about You
َ‫ل كَ َرمِك‬
ِ ‫جمِي‬
َ ‫ن‬
ْ ِ‫طعَ رَجَائِي م‬
َ َ‫ال ٱنْق‬
َ َ‫و‬
and I have never lost hope in Your excellent
magnanimity.
‫د اسْ َقطَتْنِي‬
ْ َ‫ت ٱلْخَطَايَا ق‬
ِ َ‫ن كَان‬
َ‫ديْك‬
َ َ‫ل‬

O my God, if my sins have overthrown me

in Your sight,
َ‫ن تَوَكُّلِي َعلَيْك‬

ِ ْ‫فَٱصْ َفحْ عَنِّي بِحُس‬
then please pardon me for my excellent trust
in You.
‫ن حَطَّتْنِيَ ٱلذُّنُوبُ مِنْ َمكَارِ ِم‬

َ‫لُطْفِك‬
O my God, if my wrongdoings have caused
me to lose Your honorable kindness,
َ‫ى كَرَمِ عَطْفِك‬

ٰ َ‫ن إِل‬
ُ ‫د نَبَّهَنِي ٱلْيَقِي‬
ْ َ‫فَق‬
then my belief in You has called my
attention to the generosity of Your
sympathy.

ِ‫ن ٱإلِسْ ِتعْدَاد‬

ِ َ‫ن انَامَتْنِيَ ٱْلغَ ْفلَةُ ع‬
َ‫ِللِقَائِك‬
O my God, if my inadvertence has screened
me against readying myself for meeting
You,
َ‫د نَبَّهَتْنِي ٱْل َمعْ ِرفَ ُة بِكَرَ ِم آالَِئك‬

ْ َ‫فَق‬
then my recognition of the generosity of
Your bounties has awakened me.
َ‫ى ٱلنَّارِ عَظِيمُ عِقَابِك‬

ٰ َ‫ن دَعَانِي إِل‬
O my God, if Your grave chastisement has
drawn me to Hellfire,
َ‫ل ثَوَابِك‬
ُ ‫ى ٱْلجَنَّ ِة جَزِي‬
ٰ َ‫د دَعَانِي إِل‬
ْ َ‫فَق‬
Go To Index

then Your opulent reward has drawn me to

Paradise.
ُ‫ك ابْتَهِلُ وَارْغَب‬

َ ْ‫ك اسْالُ وَإِلَي‬
َ َ‫إِلٰهِي َفل‬
O my God, You alone do I pray and You
alone do I implore and desire.
ِ‫ن تُصَلِّيَ َعلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآل‬

ْ ‫كا‬
َ ُ‫وَاسْال‬
‫د‬
ٍ َّ‫مُحَم‬
I beseech You to bless Muhammad and the
Household of Muhammad
‫ك‬
َ َ‫م ذِكْر‬
ُ ‫ج َعلَنِي مِمَّنْ ُيدِي‬
ْ َ‫ن ت‬
ْ ‫وَا‬
and to include me with those who always
mention You,
َ‫ال يَنْقُضُ عَهْدَك‬

َ َ‫و‬

who never breach their covenant to You,
َ‫ن شُكْرِك‬
ْ َ‫ال َيغْفُلُ ع‬
َ َ‫و‬
who never fail to thank You,
‫ك‬
َ ِ‫ال يَسْ َتخِفُّ بِامْر‬
َ َ‫و‬
and who never belittle Your Affairs.
ِ‫ك ٱالبْ َهج‬

َ ِّ‫إِلٰهِي وَالْحِقْنِي بِنُورِ عِز‬
O my God, (please do) take in me with the
most brilliant Light of Your Dignity
‫فَاكُونَ لَكَ عَارِفًا‬

so that I will recognize You
‫ن سِوَاكَ مُنْحَرِفًا‬
ْ َ‫وَع‬
and I will leave everybody else,

‫ك خَائِفًا مُرَاقِبًا‬
َ ْ‫َومِن‬
and that I will be fearful of and careful with
You.
ِ‫اللِ وَٱإلِكْرَام‬
َ َ‫يَا ذَا ٱلْج‬
O Lord of Majesty and Honor!
‫ى ٱللَّهُ َعلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ َرسُولِهِ وَآلِ ِه‬

ٰ َّ‫وَصَل‬
َ‫ٱلطَّاهِرِين‬
May Allah send blessings to Muhammad,
His Messenger, and upon his Household the
Infallible,
‫م تَسْلِيمًا كَثِيرًا‬
َ َّ‫َوسَل‬
and exalt them very much.

Ziyarah of Imam Husain ‫عليه السالم‬

for Night of 15th Sha’ban
It is highly recommended to visit the

tomb of Imam al-Husain ‫عليه السالم‬. In fact,
this is the most favorable act at this night.
It also brings about forgiveness of one’s
sins. If you desire that 124,000 Prophets
shake hands with you, you may visit the
holy tomb of Imam al-Husain ‫ عليه السالم‬at
this night. The least act of Ziyarah is to go
up an elevated place, look to the right and
the left, raise the head towards the
heavens, and say these statements:
ِ‫د ٱللَّه‬
ِ ْ‫ك يَا ابَا عَب‬
َ ْ‫السَّالَمُ َعلَي‬

Peace be upon you, O Aba-Àbdullah!
ُ‫حمَ ُة ٱللَّهِ َوبَرَكَاتُه‬

ْ َ‫السَّالمُ َعلَيْكَ وَر‬
Peace and Allah’s mercy and blessings be
upon you.
One who performs this form of Ziyarah

is expected to win the reward of one Hajj
and one Ùmrah.
There are two forms of visiting the holy
tomb of Imam al-Husain ‫ عليه السالم‬on the
fifteenth of Sha`ban. The first form is the
same as the one previously cited for the
Ziyarah on the first of Rajab, and the
second is as follows:
In his book of ‘al-Balad al-Amin’,
Shaykh al-Kafàmiy has reported Imam

al-Sadiq ‫ عليه السالم‬as saying that one may

stop at the holy tomb of Imam al-Husain
‫ عليه السالم‬and say the following:

ِّ ِ‫د هللِ اْل َعل‬
ُ ْ‫حم‬
َ ْ‫أل‬
All praise be to Allah; the Most High, the
All-great.
ُّ‫د الصَّالِحُ الزَّكي‬

ُ ْ‫ك أيُّها اْلعَب‬
َ ْ‫والسَّالمُ َعلَي‬
Peace be upon you; O the righteous, pure
servant (of Allah).
‫ك‬
َ ْ‫َربُني إلَي‬
ِّ ‫ك تُق‬
َ َ‫ك شَها َدةً مِنِّي ل‬
َ ُ‫اُودِع‬
،َ‫فِي يَوْ ِم شَفاعَتِك‬

I entrust with you a testimony of mine that

takes me near you on the day of your
intercession (for some people).
‫ت‬
ْ ُ‫م َتم‬
ْ َ‫ك قُ ِتلْتَ وَل‬
َ َّ‫د أن‬
ُ َ‫أشْه‬
I bear witness that although you were slain,
you have not died;
،َ‫ب شيعَتِك‬
ُ ‫ت ُقلُو‬
ْ َ‫حيِي‬
َ ‫ك‬
َ ِ‫ل بِرَجاءِ حَيات‬
ْ َ‫ب‬
Rather the hearts of your adherents (Shiàh)
are living on the hope of your being alive;
،َ‫ك اهْتَدَى الطَّالِبُونَ إلَيْك‬

َ ِ‫َوبِضِيا ِء نُور‬
And by the light of your illumination have
those seeking you been guided (to the right
path).
‫هلل الَّذي لَمْ ُيطْفَأْ وَال‬

ِ ‫ك نُو ُر ا‬
َ َّ‫د أن‬
ُ َ‫وَأشْه‬

،‫يُطْفَ ُأ أبَدًا‬
And I bear witness that you are verily the
Light of Allah that has not and shall never
be extinguished.
‫ك‬
ُ َ‫م يَ ْهلِكْ وَال يُ ْهل‬
ْ َ‫وَأنَّكَ وَجْ ُه اهللِ الَّذي ل‬
،‫أبَدًا‬
And you are verily the Face of Allah that
has not and shall never be perishing.
،َ‫ذهِ التُّ ْربَ َة تُ ْربَتُك‬

ِ ‫أن ه‬
َّ ‫د‬
ُ َ‫وَأشْه‬
And I bear witness that this soil is yours,
،َ‫وَهذا الْحَرَ َم حَ َرمُك‬

And this holy precinct is yours.

َ ِ‫دن‬
َ َ‫ع ب‬
ُ َ‫وَهذا اْلمَصْرَعَ مَصْر‬
And this death is the death of your body
only,
‫ك‬
َ ُّ‫ال ذَليلَ واهللِ ُمعِز‬
While you have never been humiliated since
Allah is the One Who is pouring honor upon
you
،َ‫هلل ناصِرُك‬
ِ ‫ب وا‬
َ ‫وَال َم ْغلُو‬
And you have never been defeated since
Allah is the One Who is supporting you.
‫ض‬
ِ ْ‫ك إلى يَوْ َم قَب‬
َ َ‫ذ ِه شَها َدةٌ لي عِنْد‬
ِ‫ه‬
،َ‫روُحي ِبحَضْ َرتِك‬

I would like you to keep this testimony of

mine with you up to the day when my soul
will be grasped in the presence of you.
.ُ‫والسَّالمُ َعلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَ ُة اهللِ َوبَرَكاتُه‬

Salaah and Supplication after Isha

Salaah
Shaykh al-Tusi, in Misbah al-Mutahajjid,

has narrated a tradition about the merits
of the night of mid-Sha`ban entailing that
Abu-Yahya asked Imam Ja`far al-Sadiq
‫ عليه السالم‬about the best of supplicatory
prayers to be said at this night. The Imam

‫ عليه السالم‬instructed him, saying:
After you accomplish the obligatory

Ìsha' Prayer, you may offer a two unit
prayer in the first unit of which you
should recite Surah al-Fatihah and Surah
al-Kafirun and in the second Surah al-
Fatihah and Surah al-Tawhid.

When you accomplish the prayer, you

may repeat (the phrase of) subhanallah
thirty-three times, (the phrase of)
alhamdulillah thirty-three times, and (the
phrase of) allahu-akbar thirty-four times.
You may then say the following
supplicatory prayer:

ِ‫ن إِلَيْهِ َملْجَا ٱْلعِبَا ِد فِي ٱْلمُهِمَّات‬
ْ َ‫يَا م‬
O He to Whom the servants (of Him) resort
in urgencies
ِ‫خلْقُ فِي ٱْل ُملِمَّات‬

َ ْ‫ع ٱل‬
ُ َ‫وَإِلَيْ ِه يَفْز‬
and to Whom the creatures turn in ordeals!
ِ‫م ٱلْجَهْرِ وَٱْلخَفِيَّات‬

َ ِ‫يَا عَال‬

O He Who knows the open and the hidden

matters!
‫ن الَ َتخْفَىٰ َعلَيْ ِه خَوَاطِ ُر ٱالوْهَا ِم‬

ِ‫ف ٱلْخَطَرَات‬
ُ ُّ‫َوتَصَر‬
O He from Whom neither the ideas of
illusions nor the initiatives of delusions can
be concealed!
ِ‫خالَئِقِ وَٱلْبَرِيَّات‬
َ ْ‫يَارَبَّ ٱل‬
O Lord of creatures and beings!
ِ‫ت ٱالرَضِينَ وَٱلسَّمَاوَات‬

ُ ‫دهِ َملَكُو‬
ِ َ‫ن بِي‬
O He Who grasps the kingdoms of the earth
and the heavens!
َ‫ِال انْت‬
َّ ‫ال إِلٰ َه إ‬
َ ‫ت ٱللَّ ُه‬
َ ْ‫ان‬

You are verily Allah; there is no god save

You!
‫ت‬
َ ْ‫ِال ان‬
َ ِ‫ك ب‬
َ ْ‫امُتُّ إِلَي‬
I thus try to connect with you in the name of
‘There is no god save You;’
‫ت‬
َ ْ‫ِال ان‬
َ ‫فَيَا‬
so, O He save Whom there is no god,
ِ‫ت إِلَ ْيه‬

َ ْ‫ذ ِه ٱ َّلل ْيلَةِ مِمَّنْ َنظَر‬
ِ ٰ‫ج َعلْنِي فِي ه‬
ْ‫ٱ‬
ُ‫حمْتَه‬
ِ َ‫فَر‬
(please) include me at this night with those
at whom You have looked and thus You
have mercy upon them,
ُ‫س ِمعْتَ ُدعَا َء ُه فَاجَ ْبتَه‬

َ ‫َو‬

with those whose prayers have been heard

by You and thus You have responded to
them,
ُ‫ت ٱسْتِقَالَتَ ُه فَا َقلْتَه‬

َ ْ‫وَ َع ِلم‬
and with those whose true repentance has
been admitted by You and thus You have
accepted it
ِ‫ف خَطِيئَتِهِ وَعَظِيم‬

ِ ِ‫ن سَال‬
ْ َ‫َوتَجَاوَزْتَ ع‬
ِ‫جَرِي َرتِه‬
and overlooked their past sins and enormous
offenses.
‫ن ُذنُوبِي‬
ْ ‫ت بِكَ ِم‬
ُ ْ‫جر‬
َ َ‫د ٱسْت‬
ِ َ‫فَق‬
verily, I am seeking Your shelter against my
sins

‫ك فِي سَ ْترِ عُيُوبِي‬

َ ْ‫ت إَِلي‬
ُ ‫وَلَجَا‬
and resorting to You so that You may
conceal my defects.
َ‫ُم فَجُدْ َعلَيَّ بِكَرَ ِمكَ َوفَضلِك‬

O Allah, (please) bestow generously upon
me with Your generosity and Favor,
َ‫ي بِحِ ْلمِكَ وَعَفْوِك‬

َ ‫ط خَطَايَا‬
ْ ‫ط‬
ُ ْ‫وَٱح‬
condone my misdeeds out of Your
forbearance and pardon,
َ‫غ كَرَامَ ِتك‬

ِ ‫ذ ِه ٱللَّ ْيلَ ِة بِسَاِب‬
ِ ٰ‫دنِي فِي ه‬
ْ َّ‫َوَتغَم‬
and encompass me, at this night, with Your
opulent honoring,
َ‫ك ٱلَّذِين‬
َ ِ‫ج َعلْنِي فِيهَا مِنْ اوْلِيَائ‬
ْ ‫وَٱ‬

َ‫ٱجْتَبَيْتَهُمْ لِطَاعَتِك‬
and include me at this night with Your
intimate servants whom You have selected
for obeying You,
َ‫وَٱخْتَ ْرتَهُمْ ِلعِبَا َدتِك‬

whom You have chosen for worshipping
You,
َ‫م خَالِصَتَكَ وَصِفْ َوتَك‬

ْ ُ‫ج َعلْتَه‬
َ َ‫و‬
and whom You have made Your elite and
select people.
‫َد ُه‬
ُّ ‫د ج‬
َ َ‫سع‬
َ ْ‫جعَ ْلنِي مِمَّن‬
ْ ‫ُم ٱ‬
O Allah, (please) make me of those whose
efforts are of a happy end

ُ‫ت حَظُّه‬
ِ ‫َوتَوَفَّرَ مِنَ ٱلْخَيْرَا‬
and those whose shares of good things are
big,
َ‫سلِمَ فَ َنعِم‬
َ ْ‫ج َعلْنِي مِمَّن‬
ْ ‫وَٱ‬
make me of those who enjoy blissful life as
they have been safe (from sins),
َ‫َوفَا َز َفغَنِم‬
and those who have been awarded
excellently as they have won,
ُ‫سلَفْت‬
ْ ‫وَٱكْفِنِي شَرَّ مَا ا‬
rescue me from the evil consequences of
what I have committed,
َ‫ن ٱالِزْدِيَا ِد فِي َم ْعصِيَتِك‬

َ ِ‫صمْنِي م‬
ِ ْ‫وَٱع‬

save me from doing more acts of

َ‫ب ِإلَيَّ طَاعَتَكَ َومَا يُقَرِّبُنِي مِنْك‬

ْ ِّ‫وَحَب‬
َ‫َويُزْلِفُنِي عِنْدَك‬
and make me love the acts of obedience to
You and whatever draws me nearer to You
and approaches me towards You.
ُ‫ك َيلْجَا ٱْلهَا ِرب‬

َ ْ‫سَيِّدِي إِلَي‬
O my Master, a fugitive resorts to none save
You,
ُ‫س ٱلطَّالِب‬
ُ ‫ك َيلْ َت ِم‬
َ ْ‫َومِن‬
a needy begs none save You,
ُ‫ل ٱلتَّائِب‬
ُ ‫ك ُيعَوِّلُ ٱْلمُسْتَقِي‬
َ ِ‫ى كَ َرم‬
ٰ َ‫وَ َعل‬

and only on Your generosity does a

repentant and contrite depends.
‫ت ا ْكرَ ُم‬
َ ْ‫ك بِٱلتَّكَرُّمِ وَان‬
َ َ‫ادَّبْتَ عِبَاد‬
َ‫ٱالكْ َرمِين‬
You have disciplined Your servants by
means of generosity, and You are verily the
most Generous of all those who are
generous.
‫ت ٱْلغَفُو ُر‬
َ ْ‫ت بِٱْلعَفْوِ عِبَادَكَ وَان‬
َ ْ‫وَامَر‬
ُ‫ٱلرَّحِيم‬
You have instructed Your servants to
pardon, and You are verily the All-
forgiving, the All-merciful.

َ ِ‫ن كَ َرم‬
ْ ِ‫ال َتحْ ِرمْنِي مَا رَجَوْتُ م‬
َ َ‫اَللَّهُمَّ ف‬
O Allah, (please) do not deprive me of Your
generosity for which I hope,
‫ك‬
َ ِ‫غ ِن َعم‬
ِ ‫ن سَاِب‬
ْ ِ‫سنِي م‬
ْ ِ‫ال تُ ْؤي‬
َ َ‫و‬
do not make me despair of Your opulent
bounties,
‫ك فِي هٰذِ ِه‬

َ ِ‫سم‬
َ ِ‫ل ق‬
ِ ‫ن جَزِي‬
ْ ِ‫ال تُخَيِّ ْبنِي م‬
َ َ‫و‬
َ‫ل طَاعَتِك‬
ِ ْ‫ٱللَّ ْيلَةِ اله‬
do not disappoint me of Your abundant
sustenance that You decide, this night, for
those who are obedient to You,
َ‫ن شِرَا ِر بَرِيَّتِك‬

ْ ‫ج َعلْنِي فِي جُنَّةٍ ِم‬
ْ ‫وَٱ‬

and include me with Your protection against

Your evil creatures.
َ‫ل ذٰلِك‬
ِ ‫ن ا ْه‬
ْ ِ‫م اكُنْ م‬
ْ َ‫رَبِّ إِنْ ل‬
O my Lord, if I do not deserve so,
ِ‫ت اهْلُ ٱلْكَرَمِ وَٱلْعَفْوِ وَٱْل َمغْفِ َرة‬

َ ْ‫فَان‬
then You are worth acting generously to me,
pardoning, and forgiving me.
ُ‫ت ا ْهلُ ُه الَ ِبمَا اسْتَحِقُّه‬

َ ْ‫وَجُدْ َعلَيَّ ِبمَا ان‬
(Please) bestow upon me magnanimously
according to that which befits You, not
according to what I deserve.
َ‫ن ظَنِّي بِك‬

َ ُ‫د حَس‬
ْ َ‫فَق‬
Verily, I carry an excellent opinion about
You,

َ‫َوتَحَقَّقَ رَجَائِي لَك‬

I do hope for You,
َ‫وَ َعلِقَتْ نَفْسِي بِكَ َرمِك‬

and my self is hanged to the rope of Your
generosity,
َ‫حمِين‬
ِ ‫م ٱلرَّا‬
ُ‫ح‬َ ْ‫ت ار‬
َ ْ‫فَان‬
for You are verily the most Merciful of all
those who show mercy
َ‫وَاكْرَ ُم ٱالكْ َرمِين‬

and the most Generous of all those who are
generous.
‫ل‬
ِ ‫ن كَ َرمِكَ ِبجَزِي‬
ْ ِ‫اَللَّهُمَّ وَٱخْصُصْنِي م‬

َ‫سمِك‬
َ ِ‫ق‬
O Allah, (please) confer upon me
exclusively with an abundant share of what
You decide, out of Your generosity.
َ‫ن ُعقُوبَتِك‬
ْ ِ‫وَاعُو ُذ ِبعَفْوِكَ م‬
I seek refuge with Your pardon against Your
chastisement.
َّ‫ب ٱلَّذِي يَحْ ِبسُ َعلَي‬

َ ْ‫وَٱغْفِرْ لِيَ ٱلذَّن‬
َ‫خلُق‬
ُ ْ‫ٱل‬
(Please) forgive me the sin that prevents me
from enjoying high morals
َ‫َويُضَيِّقُ َعلَيَّ ٱلرِّ ْزق‬

and suppresses my sustenance,

َ‫ى اقُو َم بِصَاِلحِ رِضَاك‬

ٰ َّ‫حَت‬
so that I will accomplish what excellently
achieves Your satisfaction,
َ‫م بِجَزِيلِ عَطَائِك‬

َ َ‫وَاْنع‬
I will enjoy Your profuse granting,
َ‫د بِسَاِبغِ َن ْعمَاِئك‬

َ َ‫سع‬
ْ ‫وَا‬
and I will be delighted by Your abundant
bounties.
َ‫فَقَدْ لُذْتُ ِبحَ َرمِك‬

I am having recourse to Your sanctity,
َ‫َوَتعَرَّضْتُ لِكَ َرمِك‬

asking for Your generosity,

َ‫ت ِبعَفْوِكَ ِمنْ عُقُوبَتِك‬

ُ ْ‫وَٱسْ َتعَذ‬
and taking shelter in Your pardon against
Your punishment
َ‫ح ْلمِكَ ِمنْ غَضَبِك‬

ِ ِ‫َوب‬
and in Your forbearance against Your ire.
َ‫د ِبمَا سَالْتُك‬

ْ ُ‫فَج‬
So, (please) bestow upon me generously
with that which I have asked from You
َ‫وَانِلْ مَا ٱلْ َتمَسْتُ مِنْك‬

and confer upon me with that which I have
begged from You.
َ‫ك الَ بِشَيْ ٍء هُ َو اعْظَمُ مِنْك‬

َ ‫اسْالُكَ ِب‬
I beseech You in Your name, since there is

nothing great that You are.
You may prostrate yourself and repeat

the following supplicatory phrase twenty
times:
O my Lord! ِّ‫يَا رَب‬
And then repeat the following phrase
seven times:
O Allah! ‫يَا اللَّ ُه‬
And then repeat the following phrase
seven times:
There is
neither might ‫ال‬
َ َ‫الَ حَ ْولَ و‬
nor power
save with ِ‫ِٱلله‬
َّ ‫ِال ب‬
َّ ‫قُوَّ َة إ‬
Allah.

And then repeat the following phrase ten

times:
Only that
which Allah
wants (will ُ‫مَا شَا َء ٱللَّه‬
come to
pass).
And then repeat the following phrase ten
times:
There is no َّ‫الَ قُوَّ َة إِال‬
power save
with Allah. ِ‫بِٱللَّه‬
You may then invoke Almighty Allah’s
blessings upon the Holy Prophet and
beseech Him to grant your requests.
The Imam ‫ عليه السالم‬then said; By Allah I

swear, even if you pray for things that are

as many as raindrops, Almighty Allah,
out of His generosity and favors, will
grant them all.

Dua which stands as a form of

Ziyarah for the
‫عجل هللا تعایل فرجه ر‬
12th Imam ‫الشیف‬

supplicatory prayer, which stands for a
form of Ziyarah for Imam
al-Mahdi ‫عليه السالم‬. This supplicatory
prayer has been mentioned by both
Sayyid Ibn Tawus and Shaykh al-Tusi:

‫ذهِ َومَوْلُودِهَا‬
ِ ٰ‫ُم بِحَقِّ لَ ْيلَتِنَا ه‬
O Allah, I beseech You in the name of this
night, in the name of him whom was born at
it,

‫وَحُجَّتِكَ وَمَوْعُودِهَا‬
in the name of Your Argument, and in the
name of Your promise in it;
‫ال‬
ً ْ‫ضلِهَا فَض‬
ْ َ‫ى ف‬
ٰ َ‫ت إِل‬
َ ْ‫ٱلَّتِي قَ َرن‬
the night that You have added a new merit
to its many merits.
ً‫ك صِدْقًا وَعَدْال‬

َ ُ‫ت َكلِ َمت‬
ْ َّ‫فَتَم‬
So, Your Word has been accomplished truly
and fairly.
َ‫ك ِلمَاتِك‬
َ ‫ل ِل‬
َ ِّ‫ال مُبَد‬
No one can change Your words
َ‫وَالَ ُمعَقِّبَ آلِيَاتِك‬

or obscure Your signs.

ُ‫ك ٱْلمُتَالِّق‬
َ ُ‫نُور‬
(He is) Your glowing Light,
ُ‫ك ٱْلمُشْ ِرق‬

َ ُ‫وَضِيَاؤ‬
Your bring splendor,
ِ‫م ٱلنُّو ُر فِي طَخْيَا ِء ٱلدَّيْجُور‬

ُ َ‫وَٱْل َعل‬
the luminous sign in the obscurity of
darkness,
ُ‫ب ٱلْ َمسْتُور‬

ُ ِ‫ٱْلغَائ‬
the absent, and the concealed.
ُ‫ده‬
ُ ِ‫جَلَّ مَوْلِدُ ُه وَكَرُمَ مَحْت‬
Lofty is his birth and noble is his lineage.
‫وَٱْلمَالئِكَ ُة شُهَّدُ ُه‬

The angels are his witnesses
‫د ُه‬
ُ ِّ‫وَٱللَّ ُه نَاصِ ُرهُ َومُؤَي‬
and Allah is his Supporter and Backer
‫ن مِيعَا ُدهُ وَٱْل َمالَِئكَ ُة امْدَا ُد ُه‬

َ ‫إِذَا آ‬
when his time comes and the angels shall be
his sponsors.
‫ف ٱللَّ ِه ٱلَّذِي الَ َينْبُو‬

ُ ‫سَ ْي‬
He shall act as the sword of Allah that shall
never miss the target,
‫َونُو ُر ُه ٱلَّذِي الَ يَخْبُو‬

His light that shall never be extinguished,
‫حلْمِ ٱلَّذِي الَ َيصْبُو‬

ِ ْ‫وَذُو ٱل‬

and the forbearing person who shall never

deviate the truth.
ِ‫مَدَا ُر ٱلدَّ ْهر‬

He is the motive and reason of the course of
events,
ِ‫س ٱْلعَصْر‬
ُ ‫َونَوَامِي‬
the one for whom the laws of ages have
been made,
ِ‫وَوُال ُة ٱال ْمر‬

and one of the men in authority
ِ‫ل فِي لَ ْيلَ ِة ٱلْقَدْر‬

ُ َّ‫وَٱْلمُنَزَّلُ َعلَيْهِمْ مَا يَتَنَز‬
who receive that which is revealed on the
Grand Night,

ِ‫ب ٱلْحَشْرِ وَٱلنَّشْر‬

ُ ‫وَاصْحَا‬
and the managers of the Resurrection and
the Account.
ِ‫جمَ ُة َوحْيِه‬
ِ ‫تَرَا‬
They are the interpreters of His revelations
ِ‫وَوُالَ ُة امْرِ ِه َونَهْيِه‬

and in charge of what is deemed lawful and
what is deemed unlawful by Him.
ُ‫ى خَاِتمِهِمْ َوقَاِئمِهِم‬

ٰ َ‫ُم فَصَلِّ َعل‬
O Allah, send blessings to their seal and
their Riser
ْ‫ٱْلمَسْتُورِ عَنْ عَوَاِلمِهِم‬

whom is hidden from their world.

ُ‫ك بِنَا ايَّا َمه‬

ْ ِ‫اَللَّهُمَّ وَادْر‬
O Allah, (please) make us causes for the
coming of him
ُ‫وَظُهُورَهُ وَقِيَامَه‬
and causes for his advent and reappearance.
‫ن انْصَارِ ِه‬
ْ ‫ج َعلْنَا ِم‬
ْ ‫وَٱ‬
(Please) include us with his supporters,
‫ن ثَارَنَا بِثَارِ ِه‬

ْ ِ‫وَٱقْر‬
join our vengeance to his vengeance,
ِ‫خلَصَائِه‬
ُ َ‫وَٱكْتُبْنَا فِي اعْوَانِهِ و‬
and decide us to be among his assistants and
elite ones.

َ‫وَاحْيِنَا فِي دَوْلَتِ ِه نَا ِعمِين‬

Make us live in bliss in his reign,
َ‫َوبِصُحْبَتِهِ غَاِنمِين‬
win the ecstasy of his companionship,
َ‫َوبِحَقِّ ِه قَاِئمِين‬
among those who carry out our duty toward
him,
َ‫َومِنَ ٱلسُّو ِء سَاِلمِين‬

and save us from evil.
َ‫حمِين‬
َ َ‫يَا ارْح‬
O most Merciful of all those who show
mercy!

َ‫حمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱْلعَاَلمِين‬

َ ْ‫وَٱل‬
All praise be to Allah, the Lord of the
worlds.
‫د‬
ٍ َّ‫دنَا مُحَم‬
ِ ِّ‫ى سَي‬
ٰ َ‫صلَوَاتُهُ َعل‬
َ َ‫و‬
His blessings be upon our master,
Muhammad,
َ‫سلِين‬
َ ‫م ٱلنَّبِيِّينَ وَٱْلمُ ْر‬
ِ َ‫خَات‬
the seal of the Prophets and the Messengers,
َ‫ى ا ْهلِ بَيْتِ ِه ٱلصَّا ِدقِين‬

upon his Household the veracious,
َ‫وَعِتْ َرتِ ِه ٱلنَّاطِقِين‬

and upon his offspring, the spokespersons of
the truth.

َ ‫جمِي‬
َ ‫ن‬
ْ َ‫وَٱْلع‬
Curse all the wrongdoers
ْ‫م بَيْنَنَا َوبَيْنَهُم‬

ْ ُ‫وَٱحْك‬
and judge between them and us.
َ‫م ٱْلحَا ِكمِين‬

َ َ‫يَا احْك‬
O Most Just of all

Dua Kumail
In Hadith, it is mentioned that Kumayl
ibn Ziyad said, "I was sitting with my
master Amir al-Mominin ‘Ali ibn Abu
Talib (peace be upon him) in Masjid
Kufa and a group of companions were
also sitting with him. One of them asked
him what the meaning of the
verse 'Whereupon every wise command is
made clear.' (Surah ad-Dukhan, Verse 4)
The Imam (peace be upon him) replied,
The meaning of this is the night of the
15th of Sha‘ban. I swear by the One who
holds the life of ‘Ali in His hands there is
not a single servant of Allah except that
all the good and bad that will reach him
in this year is divided up and handed out

on the 15th of Sha‘ban and this good and

bad will continue from the 15th of
Sha‘ban until the next year on the same
night. The servant who stays up this
night and recites the Du‘a of Khidr will
have his supplications answered." This
dua taught to Kumayl ibn Ziad is now
known popularly as Dua e Kumayl.

In the Name of Allah, the All-merciful, the
All-compassionate
ْ‫سعَت‬
ِ ‫حمَتِكَ الَّتِي َو‬
ْ َ‫اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي َأسْألُكَ بِر‬
ٍ‫يء‬
ْ َ‫كُلَّ ش‬

O Allah, I ask You by Your mercy, which

embraces all things;
ٍ‫يء‬
ْ ‫ش‬
َ َّ‫ُوتِكَ الَّتِي قَهَ ْرتَ بِهَا كُل‬
َّ ‫َوبِق‬
And by Your strength, through which You
dominatest all things,
ٍ‫ضعَ لَهَا كُلُّ شَيْء‬

َ َ‫وَخ‬
And toward which all things are humble
ٍ‫وَذَلَّ لَهَا كُلُّ شَيْء‬

And before which all things are lowly;
ٍ‫َوبِجَبرُوتِكَ الَّتِي َغلَبْتَ بِهَا كُلَّ شَيْء‬

And by Your invincibility through which
You overwhelmest all things,
ٌ‫ِزتِكَ الَّتِي ال يَقُومُ لَهَا شَيْء‬

َّ ‫َوِبع‬

And by Your might, which nothing can

resist;
ٍ‫ظمَتِكَ الَّتِي َمألَتْ كُلَّ شَيْء‬

َ َ‫َوِبع‬
And by Your tremendousness, which has
filled all things;
ٍ‫يء‬
ْ َ‫سلْطَانِكَ الَّذِي َعالَ كُلَّ ش‬
ُ ِ‫َوب‬
by Your force, which towers over all things;
ٍ‫يء‬
ْ َ‫َوبِوَجْهِكَ الْبَاقِي َبعْدَ فَنَاءِ كُلِّ ش‬
And by Your face, which subsists after the
annihilation of all things,
ٍ‫يء‬
ْ َ‫ألتْ أَرْكَانَ كُلِّ ش‬
َ َ‫سمَائِكَ الَّتِي م‬
ْ ‫َوبِ َأ‬
And by Your Names, which have filled the
foundations of all things;

ٍ‫َوِب ِع ْلمِكَ َّالذِي أَحَاطَ بِكُلِّ شَيْء‬

And by Your knowledge, which
encompasses all things;
ٍ‫جهِكَ الَّذِي َأضَاءَ لَهُ كُلُّ شَيْء‬

ْ َ‫َوبِنُورِ و‬
And by the light of Your face, through
which all things are illumined!
ُ‫يَا نُورُ يَا قُدُّوس‬

O Light! O All-holy!
َ‫َولِين‬
َّ ‫َولَ األ‬
َّ ‫يَا أ‬
O First of those who are first
َ‫َويَا آخِرَ اآلخِرِين‬

And O Last of those who are last!

َ‫الذنُوبَ الَّتِي تَهتِكُ اْلعِصَم‬

ُّ ‫اللَّهُمَ اغْفِرْ لِي‬
O Allah, forgive me those sins which tear
apart safeguards!
‫م‬
َ َ‫الذنُوبَ الَّتِي تُنْ ِزلُ النِّق‬
O Allah, forgive me those sins which draw
down adversities!
َ‫النعَم‬
ِّ ُ‫الذنُوبَ الَّتِي تُغيِّر‬
O Allah, forgive me those sins which alter
blessings!
ُ‫الذنُوبَ الَّتِي تَحْ ِبس‬

ُّ ‫اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي‬
َ‫الدُّعَاء‬
O Allah forgive me those sins which hold
back supplication!

ُ‫طع‬
َ ْ‫الذنُوبَ الَّتِي تَق‬
َ‫الرََِّّّّجَاء‬
O Allah forgive me those sins which cut
down the hopes!
‫الذنُوبَ الَّتِي تُنْ ِزلُ البَال َء‬

O Allah, forgive me those sins which draw
down tribulation!
َّ‫اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي كُلَّ َذنْبٍ أَ ْذنَبْتُهُ وَكُل‬

‫خَطِيئَةٍ أَخْطَ ْأتُهَا‬
O Allah, forgive me every sin I have
committed and every mistake I have made!
َ‫اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي َأتَقَرَّبُ إَِليْكَ بِذِكْرِك‬

O Allah, verily I seek nearness to You

through remembrance of You,
َ‫وََأسْتَشْ ِفعُ بِكَ إِلَي نَ ْفسِك‬

And I seek intercession from You with
Yourself,
‫ك‬
َ ِ‫دنِيَنِي مِن قُ ْرب‬
ْ ُ‫وََأسْألُكَ بِجُودِكَ أَن ت‬
And I ask You through Your munificence to
bring me near to Your proximity,
َ‫وَأَن تُوزِ َعنِي شُكْرَك‬

And to provide me with gratitude toward
You
َ‫وَأَن ُتلْ ِهمَنِي ذِكْرَك‬

And to inspire me with Your remembrance.

ٍ‫ضعٍ مُّتَذَلِّل‬
ِ ‫اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي َأسْألُكَ سُؤَالَ خَا‬
‫حمَنِي‬
َ ْ‫شعٍ أَن تُسَامِحَنِي َوتَر‬
ِ ‫خَا‬
O Allah, verily I ask You with the asking of
a submissive, abased and lowly man to show
me forbearance, to have mercy on me
‫ َوفِي‬،‫سمِكَ رَاضِيًا قَانِعًا‬

َ َ‫َوتَجْعلَنِي بِق‬
‫ألحْ َواِل مُتَوَاضِعًا‬
َ ‫جمِيعِ ا‬
َ
And to make me satisfied and content with
Your appointment and [make me] humble in
every state.
ُ‫َدتْ فَاقَتُه‬
َّ ‫ل مَنِ اشْت‬
َ ‫اللَّهُمَّ وََأسْألُكَ سُؤَا‬
O Allah, I ask You the question of one
whose indigence is extreme,

‫وَأَن َزلَ بِكَ عِنْدَ الشَّدَائِدِ حَاجَتَ ُه‬

And who has stated to You in difficulties his
need
ُ‫وَعَظُمَ فِيمَا عِنْدَكَ رَغْبَ ُته‬

And whose desire for what is with You has
become great.
َّ‫سلْطَاُنكَ وَ َعالَ َمكَانُكَ اللَّهُم‬

ُ َ‫َعظُم‬
O Allah, Your force is tremendous, Your
place is lofty,
‫ك‬
َ ُ‫وَخَفِي مَكْرُكَ وَظَهَرَ َأمْر‬
And Your deception is hidden, Your
command is manifest,
َ‫وَ َغلَبَ قَهْرُكَ وَجَرَتْ قُدْ َرتُك‬

And Your domination is overwhelming,

Your power is unhindered
َ‫وَال ُيمْكِنُ الْفِرَارُ مِنْ حُكُومَتِك‬

And escape from Your governance is
impossible.
‫ذنُوِبي غَافِرًا‬
ُ ِ‫اللَّهُمَّ ال أَجِدُ ل‬
O Allah, I find no forgiver of my sins,
‫وَّال لِقَبَاِئحِي سَاتِرًا‬

Nor concealer of my ugly acts
ِ‫وَّال لِشَيْءٍ مِّنْ َع َملِي الْقَبِيحِ بِالْحَسَن‬

َ‫مُبَدِّالً غَيْرَك‬
Nor transformer of any of my ugly acts into
good acts but You

َ‫ال إِلَهَ إِالَّ أَنت‬

There is no god but You!
َ‫حمْدِك‬
َ ِ‫سُبْحَانَكَ َوب‬
Glory be to You, and Thine is the praise!
‫َظ َلمْتُ نَ ْفسِي‬

I have wronged myself,
‫َوتَجَرَّأْتُ بِجَ ْهلِي‬

And I have been audacious in my ignorance
َ‫َوسَكَنتُ ِإلَي قَدِيمِ ِذكْرِكَ لِي وَمَنِّك‬

َّ‫َعلَي‬

And I have depended upon Your ancient

remembrance of me and Your favour toward
me.
َ‫اللَّهُمَّ مَوْالي‬
O Allah! O my Protector!
‫كَم مِّن قَبِيحٍ سَتَ ْرتَ ُه‬

How many ugly things You hast concealed!
‫ن البَالءِ َأ َقلْتَ ُه‬

َ ِّ‫وَكَم مِّن فَاِدحٍ م‬
How many burdensome tribulations You
hast abolished!
ُ‫وَكَم مِّنْ ِعثَارٍ َّوقَيْ َته‬

And how many stumbles You hast
prevented!

ُ‫وَكَم مِّن َّمكْرُوهٍ َدفَ ْعتَه‬

And how many ordeals You hast repelled!
ُ‫جمِيلٍ لَّسْتُ أَ ْهالً لَّهُ نَشَ ْرتَه‬

َ ‫وَكَم مِّن ثَ َناٍء‬
And how much beautiful praise, for which I
was unworthy, You hast spread abroad!
‫اللَّهُمَّ عَظُمَ بَالئِي‬

O Allah, my tribulation is tremendous,
‫حاِلي‬
َ ُ‫وََأفْرَطَ بِي سُوء‬
And my bad state is excessive,
‫َوقَصُرَتْ بِي أَ ْع َماِلي‬

And my acts are inadequate,
‫َو َقعَدَتْ بِي أَ ْغالَلِي‬

And my fetters have tied me down,
‫سنِي عَن نَّ ْفعِي ُبعْدُ آ َماِلي‬

َ َ‫وَحَب‬
And my far-fetched hopes have held me
back from my gain
‫الدنْيَا ِبغُرُورِهَا َونَ ْفسِي‬

ُّ ‫وَخَدَعَتْنِي‬
‫طاِلي‬
َ ِ‫بِجِنَايَتِهَا َوم‬
And this world with its delusions, my own
soul with its offences and my delay have
deceived me.
َ‫ِزتِكَ أَن ال يَحْجُب‬

َّ ‫يَا سَيِّدِي فَ َأسْألُكَ ِبع‬
‫عَنْكَ دُعَائِي سُوءُ َع َملِي َو ِف َعاِلي‬

O my Master! So I ask You by Your might

not to let my evil works and acts veil my
supplication from You,
ْ‫ت َعلَيْهِ مِن‬

َ ْ‫اط َلع‬
َّ ‫حنِي بِخَفِيِّ مَا‬
َ َ‫وَال تَفْض‬
‫سِرِّي‬
And not to disgrace me through the hidden
things You knowest of my secrets
‫جلْنِي بِاْلعُقُوبَةِ َعلَى مَا َع ِملْتُهُ فِي‬

ِ ‫وَال ُتعَا‬
‫خلَوَاتِي‬
َ
And not to hasten me to punishment for
what I have done in private:
،‫مِنْ سُوءِ ِف ْعلِي وَِإسَا َءتِي‬

My evil acts in secrecy and my misdeeds

‫وَدَوَامِ تَفْرِيطِي وَجَهَالَتِي‬

And my continuous negligence and my
ignorance
‫وَكَثْ َرةِ شَهَوَاتِي وَغَ ْفلَتِي‬

And my manifold passions and my
forgetfulness.
‫ِزتِكَ ِلي فِي كُلِّ األَحْ َواِل‬

َّ ‫وَكُنِ اللَّهُمَّ ِبع‬
‫رَؤُوفًا‬
And by Your might, O Allah, be kind to me
in all states
‫جمِيعِ األُمُورِ عَطُوفًا‬

َ ‫وَّ َعلَيَّ فِي‬
And be gracious to me in all affairs!

َ‫شف‬
ْ َ‫إِلَهِي وَرَبِّي مَن لِّي غَيْرُكَ َأسْألُهُ ك‬
!‫ضُرِّي وَالْنَّظَرَ فِي أَ ْمرِي‬
My God and my Lord! Have I any but You
from whom to ask removal of my affliction
and regard for my affairs!
ُ‫حكْمًا اتَّبَعْت‬
ُ َّ‫إِلَهِي َو َموْالي أَجْرَيْتَ َعلَي‬
،‫فِيهِ هَوَى َنفْسِي‬
My God and my Protector! You put into
effect through me a decree in which I
followed the caprice of my own soul
،‫وَلَمْ أَحْتَرِسْ فِيهِ مِن تَزْيينِ عَدُوِّي‬

And [I] did not remain wary of adorning my
enemy.

َ‫دهُ َعلَى ذَلِك‬

َ َ‫سع‬
ْ ‫َرنِي ِبمَا أَهْوَى وََأ‬
َّ ‫َفغ‬
ُ‫القَضَاء‬
So he deluded me through my soul's caprice
and therein destiny favoured him
َ‫فَتَجَاوَزْتُ ِبمَا جَرَى َعلَيَّ مِنْ َذلِكَ َبعْض‬

َ‫حُدُودِك‬
So, in what was put into effect through me
in that situation, I transgressed some of Your
statutes
َ‫وَخَالَفْتُ َبعْضَ أَوَامِرِك‬

And disobeyed some of Your commands.
َ‫جمِيعِ ذَِلك‬
َ ‫َفلَكَ الْحُجَّةُ َعلَيَّ فِي‬

So Thine is the argument against me in all of

that
ِ‫جرَي َعلَيَّ فِيه‬

َ ‫وَال حُجَّةَ لِي فِيمَا‬
،َ‫قَضَاؤُك‬
I have no argument in what Your destiny put
into effect through me therein
َ‫كمُكَ َوبَالؤُك‬
ْ ُ‫وَأَلْ َزمَنِي ح‬
nor in what Your decree and Your
tribulation imposed upon me.
‫َوقَدْ َأتَيْتُكَ يَا إِلَهِي َبعْدَ تَ ْقصِيرِي‬

‫وَِإسْرَافِي َعلَى نَفْسِي‬

Now I have come to You, My God, after my

shortcoming and my immoderation toward
myself,
،‫ُمعْتَذِرًا نَّادِمًا‬
Proffering my excuse, regretful,
ً‫مُّنْكَسِرًا مُّسْتَقِيال‬
Broken, apologizing,
،‫مُّسْ َتغْفِرًا مُّنِيبًا‬

Asking forgiveness, repenting,
‫مُّقِرًِّا مُّذْعِنًا ُّمعْتَرِفًا‬

Acknowledging, submissive, confessing.
‫ال أَجِدُ مَفَرًِّا مِّمَّا كَانَ مِنِّي‬

I find no place to flee from what occurred

through me,
‫وَال مَفْزَعًا َأتَوَجَّهُ إِلَيْهِ في َأمْ ِري‬

Nor any place of escape to which I may turn
in my affairs,
‫خاِلكَ ِإيَاي فِي‬

َ ‫ وَإِد‬،‫غَيْرَ قَبُولِكَ عُذْرِي‬
ْ َّ‫سعَةٍ مِّن ر‬
َ
Other than Your acceptance of my excuse
and Your entering me into the compass of
Your mercy.
‫اللَّهُمَّ فَاقْبَل عُذْرِي‬

O Allah, so accept my excuse,
‫ِدةَ ضُرِّي‬
َّ ‫وَارْحَمْ ش‬

Have mercy upon the severity of my

affliction
‫َوفُكَّنِي مِن شَدِّ َوثَاقِي‬

And release me from the tightness of my
fetters,
‫جلْدِي‬
ِ َ‫دنِي وَرِقَّة‬
َ ‫ض ْعفَ َب‬
َ ْ‫حم‬
َ ْ‫يَا رَبِّ ار‬
‫ظمِي‬
ْ َ‫وَدِقَّةَ ع‬
My Lord, have mercy upon the weakness of
my body, the thinness of my skin and the
frailty of my bones.
‫خلْقِي وَذِكْرِي َوتَ ْربِيَتِي َوبِرِّي‬

َ َ‫ن بَدَأ‬
‫ذيَتِي‬
ِ ْ‫َوَتغ‬

O You who gave rise to my creation, to the

remembrance of me, to the nurture of me, to
goodness toward me and to nourishment on
me,
‫ساِلفِ بِرِّكَ بِي‬

َ ‫ك َو‬
َ ِ‫هَبْنِي الْبتِدَاءِ كَ َرم‬
Bestow upon me for the sake of Your having
given rise [to me] with generosity and Your
previous goodness to me!
‫يَا إِلَهِي َوسَيِّدِي وَرَبِّي‬

O Allah, my Master and my Lord!
َ‫َذبِي بِنَارِكَ َبعْدَ تَوْحِيدِك‬

ِّ ‫َأتُرَاكَ مُع‬
Canst You see Yourself tormenting me with
Your fire after I have professed Your Unity
َ‫َوَبعْدَ مَا اْنطَوَى َعلَيْهِ َقلْبِي مِن َّمعْ ِرفَ ِتك‬

And after the knowledge of You my heart

has embraced,
َ‫وَلَ ِهجَ بِهِ لِسَانِي مِنْ ذِكْرِك‬

And the remembrance of You my tongue
has constantly mentioned
َ‫ضمِيرِي ِمنْ حُبِّك‬

َ ُ‫ده‬
َ َ‫وَاعْتَق‬
And the love of You to which my mind has
clung,
‫َوَبعْدَ صِدْقِ اعْتِرَافِي وَدُعَائِي خَاضِعًا‬

َ‫لِّ ُربُوبِيَّتِك‬
And after the sincerity of my confession and
my supplication, humble before Your
lordship?

‫َيعَ مَن‬
ِّ ‫هَيْهَاتَ أَنتَ أَكْرَمُ ِمنْ أَن تُض‬
ُ‫رَّبَّيْ َته‬
Far be it from You! You art more generous
than that You shouldst squander him whom
You hast nurtured,
ُ‫أَوْ تُ ْبعِدَ َمنْ أَ ْدنَيْتَه‬

Or banish him whom You hast brought nigh,
ُ‫أَوْ تُشَرِّدَ َمنْ آ َويْتَه‬

Or drive away him whom You hast given an
abode
ُ‫حمْ َته‬
ِ َ‫أَوْ تُسْلِّمَ إِلىَ الْبالءِ مَن كَفَيْتَهُ وَر‬
Or submit to tribulation him whom You hast
spared and shown mercy.

‫دي وَإِلَهِي َومَوْالي‬

ِ ِّ‫شعْرِي يَا سَي‬
ِ َ‫وَلَيْت‬
Would that I knew, my Master, My God and
my Protector,
َ‫ظمَتِك‬
َ َ‫َلطُ النَّارَ َعلَى وُجُوهٍ خَرَّتْ ِلع‬
ِّ ‫َأتُس‬
‫سَاجِدَ ًة‬
Whether You wilt give the Fire dominion
over faces fallen down prostrate before Your
Tremendousness,
ً‫وَّ َعلَى أَْلسُنٍ نَّطَقَتْ ِبتَوْحِيدِكَ صَا ِدقَة‬

‫َّوبِشُكْرِكَ مَادِحَ ًة‬
And over tongues voicing sincerely the
profession of Your Unity and giving thanks
to You in praise,

ً‫وَّ َعلَى ُقلُوبٍ اعْتَ َرفَتْ ِبإِلَهِيَّتِكَ مُحَقِّقَة‬

And over hearts acknowledging Your
Divinity through verification,
‫ضمَائِرَ حَوَتْ ِمنَ اْل ِعلْمِ ِبكَ حَتَّى‬

َ ‫وَّ َعلَى‬
ً‫شعَة‬
ِ ‫صَارَتْ خَا‬
And over minds encompassing knowledge
of You until they have become humble
َ‫سعَتْ إِلَى أَوْطَانِ َتعَبُّدِك‬

َ َ‫وَّ َعلَى جَواِرح‬
ْ‫ذعِ َنةً طَاِئعَةً وَّأَشَارَت‬
ْ ُ‫بِاسْ ِتغْفَارِكَ م‬
And over bodily members speeding to the
places of Your worship in obedience and
beckoning for Your forgiveness in
submission.

َ‫ضلِك‬
ْ َ‫مَّا هَكَذَا الظَّنُّ بِكَ وَال أُخْبِ ْرنَا ِبف‬
َ‫عَنك‬
No such opinion is held of You! Nor has
such been reported - thanks to Your bounty
— concerning You,
ِّ‫ يَا رَب‬،ُ‫يَا كَرِيم‬

O All-generous! My Lord,
ِ‫ضعْفِي عَن َقلِيلٍ مِّن بَالء‬

َ ‫م‬
ُ َ‫وَأَنتَ َت ْعل‬
،‫الدنْيَا وَعُقُوبَاتِهَا‬
ُّ
And You knowest my weakness before a
little of this world's tribulations and
punishments,

‫ن اْلمَكَا ِرهِ َعلَى أَ ْهلِهَا‬

َ ِ‫َومَا يَجْرِي فِيهَا م‬
And before those ordeals which befall its
inhabitants,
،ُ‫ َقلِيلٌ مَّكْثُه‬،ٌ‫َعلَى أَنَّ ذَلِكَ بَالءٌ وَّ َمكْرُوه‬

ُ‫ُّدتُه‬
َّ ‫ قَصِيرٌ م‬،ُ‫يَسِيرٌ بَقَا ُؤه‬
Even though it is a tribulation and ordeal
whose stay is short, whose subsistence is but
little and, whose period is but fleeting.
ِ‫جلِيل‬
َ ‫فَكَ ْيفَ احْ ِت َماِلي لِبَالءِ اآلخِ َرةِ َو‬
!‫ُوقُوعِ اْلمَكَا ِرهِ فِيهَا‬
So how can I endure the tribulations of the
next world and the great ordeals that occur
within it?

‫ وَال‬،ُ‫ َويَدُومُ مَقَامُه‬،ُ‫وَهُوَ بَالءٌ َتطُولُ مُدَُّته‬

ِ‫ن أَ ْهلِه‬
ْ َ‫َففُ ع‬
َّ ‫يُخ‬
For it is a tribulation whose period is long,
whose station endures and whose sufferers
are given no respite,
َ‫ألَنَّهُ ال يَكُونُ إِالَّ عَنْ غَضَبِكَ وَانتِقَامِك‬

َ‫َوسَخَطِك‬
Since it only occurs as a result of Your
wrath, Your vengeance and Your anger,
ُ‫السمَاوَاتُ وَاألَ ْرض‬

َّ ُ‫وَهَذَا مَا ال تَقُومُ لَه‬
And these cannot be withstood by the
heavens and the earth.

‫يَا سَيِّدِي فَكَ ْيفَ بِي‬

O Master, so what about me?!
ُ‫الضعِيفُ الذَّلِيلُ الْحَقِير‬

َّ َ‫وََأنَا عَبْدُك‬
ُ‫اْلمِسْكِينُ اْلمُسْتَكِين‬
For I am Your weak, lowly, base, wretched
and miserable slave.
‫يَا إِلَهِي َورَبِّي َوسَيِّدِي َومَوْالي‬

My God! My Lord! My Master! My
Protector!
‫ألمُورِ إِلَيْكَ َأشْكُو‬

ُ ‫ألَيِّ ا‬
For which things would I complain to You?
‫وَِلمَا مِنْهَا أَضِجُّ وََأبْكِي‬

And for which of them would I lament and

weep?
!ِ‫ِدتِه‬
َّ ‫ألَلِيمِ اْلعَذَابِ َوش‬
For the pain and severity of chastisement?
!ِ‫أَمْ لِطُولِ الْبَالءِ َومُدَِّته‬

Or for the length and period of tribulation?
‫ك‬
َ ِ‫ع أَعْدَائ‬
َ َ‫َفلَئِن صَيَّ ْرتَنِي ِل ْلعُقُوبَاتِ م‬
So if You takest me to the punishments with
Your enemies,
‫ك‬
َ ِ‫ج َمعْتَ بَيْنِي َوبَيْنَ أَهْلِ بَالئ‬
َ َ‫و‬
And gatherest me with the people of Your
tribulation
َ‫َرقْتَ بَيْنِي َوبَيْنَ أَحِبَّائِكَ وَأَوْلِيَائِك‬

َّ ‫َوف‬

And separatest me from Your friends and

saints,
‫فَهَبْنِي يَا إِلَهِي َوسَيِّدِي َومَوْالي وَرَبِّي‬

،َ‫صَبَرْتُ َعلَى عَذَابِك‬
Then suppose, My God, my Master, my
Protector and my Lord that I am able to
endure Your chastisement,
َ‫فَكَ ْيفَ أَصْبِرُ َعلَى فِرَاقِك‬

How can I endure separation from You?
،َ‫وَهَبْنِي صَبَرْتُ َعلَى حَرِّ نَارِك‬

And suppose that I am able to endure the
heat of Your fire,
َ‫فَكَ ْيفَ أَصْبِرُ عَنِ النَّظَرِ إِلَى كَرَامَتِك‬

How can I endure not gazing upon Your

generosity?
َ‫أَمْ كَ ْيفَ َأسْكُنُ فِي النَّارِ وَرَجَائِي عَفْوُك‬

Or how can I dwell in the Fire while my
hope is Your pardon?
،‫ِزتِكَ يَا سَيِّدِي وَ َموْالي ُأقْسِمُ صَادِقًا‬

َّ ‫فَ ِبع‬
‫لَئِن تَرَكْ َتنِي نَاطِقًا‬
So by Your might, my Master and my
protector, I swear sincerely, if You leavest
me with speech,
‫ن‬
َ ‫ألَضِجَّنَّ ِإلَيْكَ بَيْنَ أَ ْهلِهَا ضَجِيجَ اآل ِملِي‬
I will lament to You from the midst of the
Fire's inhabitants with lamentation of the
hopeful;

َ‫وَألَصْرُخَنَّ إِلَيكَ صُرَاخَ المُسْتَصْرِخِين‬

I will cry to You with the cry of those crying
for help;
‫ن‬
َ ‫ألبْكِيَنَّ عَلَيْكَ بُكَاءَ الفَاقِدِي‬
َ َ‫و‬
I will weep to You with the weeping of the
bereft;
َ‫ألنَادِيَنَّكَ َأيْنَ كُنتَ يَا وَلِيَّ اْلمُ ْؤمِنِين‬

ُ َ‫و‬
And I will call to You, Where art You, O
Sponsor of the believers,
َ‫يَا غَايَةَ آمَاِل العَا ِرفِين‬

O Goal of the hopes of Your knowers,
َ‫يَا غِيَاثَ المُسْ َتغِيثِين‬

O Aid of those who seek assistance,

َ‫يَا حَبِيبَ ُقلُوبِ الصَّا ِدقِين‬

O Friend of the hearts of the sincere
َ‫َويَا إِلَهَ العَاَلمِين‬

And O God of all the world's inhabitants!
،َ‫سبْحَانَكَ يَا إِلَهِي َوبِحَمْدِك‬

ُ ،َ‫َأفَتُرَاك‬
‫م‬
ٍ ِ‫سل‬
ْ ُّ‫س َمعُ فِيهَا صَوْتَ عَبْدٍ م‬
ْ َ‫ت‬
Canst You see Yourself — Glory be to You
My God, and Thine is the praised — hearing
within the Fire the voice of a slave
surrendered to You,
ِ‫سُجِنَ فِيهَا ِبمُخَالَفَتِه‬

Imprisoned there because of his violations,

ِ‫وَذَاقَ َطعْمَ عَذَابِهَا ِب َمعْصِيَ ِته‬

Tasting the favour of its torment because of
his disobedience,
ِ‫وَحُ ِبسَ بَيْنَ أَطْبَاقِهَا بِجُ ْرمِهِ َوجَرِي َرتِه‬

And confined within its levels because of his
sin and crime,
ْ َ‫ضجِيجَ مُؤَمِّلٍ لِّر‬
َ َ‫وَهُوَ يَضِجُّ إلَيْك‬
While he laments to You with the lament of
one hopeful for Your mercy,
َ‫َويُنَادِيكَ ِبلِسَانِ أَهْلِ تَوْحِيدِك‬

And calls to You with the tongue of those
who profess Your Unity
َ‫َويَتَوَسَّلُ إلَيْكَ بِ ُربُوبِيَّتِك‬

And entreats You by Your lordship!
َ‫يَا مَوْالي َفكَ ْيفَ يَبقَى فِي اْلعَذَابِ وَهُو‬

َ‫ح ْلمِك‬
ِ ْ‫س َلفَ مِن‬
َ ‫يَرْجُو مَا‬
My Protector, so how should he remain in
the chastisement, while he has hope for
Your previous clemency?
َ‫ضلَك‬
ْ ‫أَمْ كَ ْيفَ تُ ْؤِلمُهُ النَّارُ وَهُوَ يَامَلُ َف‬
َ‫حمَتَك‬
ْ َ‫وَر‬
Or how should the Fire cause him pain while
he expects Your bounty and mercy?
ُ‫س َمع‬
ْ ‫أَمْ كَ ْيفَ ُيحْ ِرقُهُ لَهِيبُهَا وَأَنتَ َت‬
‫صَ ْوتَهُ َوتَرَى مَكَانَ ُه‬

Or how should its flames burn him, while

You hearest his voice and seest his place?
ُ‫أَمْ كَ ْيفَ َيشْ َتمِلُ َعلَيْهِ َزفِيرُهَا وَأَنتَ َتعْ َلم‬

ُ‫ضعْفَه‬
َ
Or how should its groaning encompass him,
while You knowest his weakness?
‫م‬
ُ َ‫أَمْ كَ ْيفَ يَ َت َقلْقَلُ بَيْنَ أَطْبَاقِهَا وَأَنتَ َت ْعل‬
ُ‫دقَه‬
ْ ِ‫ص‬
Or how should he be convulsed among its
levels, while You knowest his sincerity?
‫أَمْ كَ ْيفَ تَ ْزجُ ُرهُ َزبَانِيَ ُتهَا وَهُوَ يُنَادِيكَ يَا‬

ُ‫رَبَّه‬

Or how should its keepers torture him while

he calls out to You, O Lord?
‫ضلَكَ فِي عِتْقِهِ مِنْهَا‬

ْ َ‫أَمْ كَ ْيفَ يَ ْرجُو ف‬
‫فَتَتْرُكُهُ فِيهَا‬
Or how should he have hope of Your bounty
in freeing him from it, while You
abandonest him within it?
‫ك‬
َ ِ‫هَيهَاتَ مَا ذَلِكَ الظَّنُّ ب‬
Far be it from You! That is not what is
expected of You,
َ‫ضلِك‬
ْ َ‫وَال اْل َمعْرُوفُ مِن ف‬
Nor what is well-known of Your bounty,
‫ن‬
ْ ِ‫َحدِينَ م‬
ِّ ‫ت بِهِ اْلمُو‬
َ ْ‫وَال مُشْبِهٌ ِلمَا عَا َمل‬

َ‫بِرِّكَ وَإِحْسَانِك‬
Nor it is similar to the goodness and
kindness You hast shown to those who
profess Your Unity.
‫كمْتَ ِبهِ مِن‬

َ َ‫طعُ لَوْال مَا ح‬
َ ْ‫فَبِالْيَقِينِ أَق‬
َ‫َتعْذِيبِ جَاحِدِيك‬
So I declare with certainty that were it not
for what You hast decreed concerning the
chastisement of Your deniers
َ‫خالَدِ ُمعَانِدِيك‬
ْ ِ‫َوقَضَيْتَ بِهِ مِنْ إ‬
And what You hast foreordained concerning
the everlasting home of those who
stubbornly resist,

،‫سالَمًا‬
َ ‫ج َعلْتَ النَّارَ كُلَّهَا بَرْدًا َّو‬
َ َ‫ل‬
You wouldst make the Fire, all of it,
coolness and safety,
‫ألحَدٍ فِيهَا َمقَرًِّا وَّال مُقَامًا‬

َ َ‫َومَا كَان‬
And no one would have a place of rest or
abode within it.
ْ‫سمْتَ أَن‬
َ ْ‫سمَاؤُكَ َأق‬
ْ ‫َدسَتْ َأ‬
َّ ‫لَّكِنَّكَ تَق‬
،َ‫ن الْكَافِرِين‬
َ ِ‫َت ْمألَهَا م‬
But You—holy are Your Names—hast
sworn that You wilt fill it with the
unbelievers,
َ‫مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْ َمعِين‬

Both Jinn and men together,

َ‫وَأَن تُخَلِّدَ فِيهَا اْل ُمعَاِندِين‬

And that You wilt place those who
stubbornly resist therein forever.
َ‫ َّوتَطَوَّلْت‬،‫وَأَنتَ جَلَّ ثَنَاؤُكَ ُقلْتَ مُبْتَدَئًا‬

:‫إلْنعَامِ مُ َتكَرِّمًا‬
ِ ‫بِا‬
And You— majestic is Your eulogy— said
at the beginning and wernt gracious through
kindness as a favour,
َ َُ ْ َ ‫ََ َ َ َ ُ ْ ً َ َ َ َ َ ً ا‬
‫اسقا َّل يستوون‬
ِ ‫أفمن كان مؤ ِمنا كمن كان ف‬
(What? Is he who has been believer like
unto him who has been ungodly? They are
not equal)
‫إِلَهِي َوسَيِّدِي فَ َأسْألُكَ بِالْقُدْ َرةِ الَّتِي‬

‫قَدَّ ْرتَهَا‬
My God and my Master! So I ask You by
the power You hast apportioned
َ‫كمْتَهَا وَ َغلَبْت‬
َ َ‫َوبِالْقَضِيَّةِ الَّتِي حَتَ ْمتَهَا وَح‬
‫مَنْ َعلَيْهِ َأجْ َريْتَهَا‬
And by the decision which You hast
determined and imposed and through which
You hast overcome him toward whom it has
been put into effect,
ِ‫ذه‬
ِ َ‫ َوفِي ه‬،ِ‫ذهِ اللَّ ْيلَة‬
ِ ‫ فِي ه‬،‫أَن تَهَبَ لِي‬
ِ‫السَّا َعة‬
That You forgivest me in this night and at
this hour

ُ‫كُلَّ جُرْمٍ أَجْ َرمْتُه‬

Every offence I have committed,
ُ‫وَكُلَّ َذنْبٍ أَ ْذنَبْتُه‬

And every sin I have performed,
ُ‫وَكُلَّ قَبِيحٍ َأسْرَ ْرتُه‬

And every ugly thing I have concealed
،ُ‫وَكُلَّ جَ ْهلٍ َع ِملْتُه‬

And every folly I have enacted
،ُ‫كَ َتمْتُهُ أَوْ أَ ْعلَنتُه‬

Whether I have hidden or announced it,
ُ‫أَخفَيْتُهُ أَوْ أَظْهَ ْرتُه‬

Or I have concealed it or manifested it

َ‫وَكُلَّ سَيِّ َئةٍ َأمَرْتَ بِ ِإثْبَاتِهَا الْكِرَام‬

َ‫الكَاتِبِين‬
And every evil act which You hast
commanded the Noble Writers to record,
‫َكلْتَهُم بِحِ ْفظِ مَا يَكُونُ مِنِّي‬

َّ ‫الَّذِينَ و‬
Those whom You hast appointed to watch
over what appears from me
،‫ج َعلْتَهُمْ شُهُودًا َعلَيَّ َمعَ جَوَارِحِي‬

َ َ‫و‬
And whom You hast made, along with my
bodily members, witness against me.
،ْ‫الرقِيبَ َعلَيَّ مِن وَّرَائِهِم‬

َّ َ‫وَكُنتَ أَنت‬
And You wast Yourself the Watcher over
me from behind them,

،ْ‫وَالشَّاهِدَ لِمَا خَفِي َعنْهُم‬

And the Witness of what is hidden from
them
،ُ‫حمَتِكَ أَخْفَيْتَه‬
ْ َ‫َوبِر‬
But through Your mercy You concealed it
ُ‫ضلِكَ سَتَ ْرتَه‬

ْ َ‫وَبف‬
And through Your bounty You veiled it.
،ُ‫وَأَن تُوَفِّرَ حَظِّي مِن كُلِّ خَيْرٍ تُنْزِلُه‬

[And I ask You] that You bestowest upon
me an abundant share of every good You
sendest down,
‫ضلُ ُه‬
ِ ْ‫أَوْ إِحْسَانٍ تُف‬
Or kindness You conferrest,

،ُ‫أَوْ بِرٍّ تَنْشِ ُره‬

Or goodness You unfoldest,
ُ‫طه‬
ُ ُ‫أَوْ رِزْقٍ َتبْس‬
Or provision You spreadest out,
ُ‫أَوْ َذنْبٍ تَ ْغفِ ُره‬

Or sin You forgivest,
ُ‫أَوْ خَطَأٍ تَسْتُ ُره‬

Or error You coverest.
ِّ‫يَا رَبِّ يَا رَبِّ يَا رَب‬

My Lord! My Lord! My Lord!
‫يَا إِلَهِي َوسَيِّدِي وَ َموْالي َو َماِلكَ رِقِّي‬

My God! My Master! My Protector! Owner

of my bondage!
‫دهِ نَاصِيَتِي‬
ِ َ‫ن بِي‬
O He in whose hand is my forelock!
‫يَا َعلِيمًا ِبضُرِّي َومَسْكَ َنتِي‬

O He who knows my affliction and my
misery!
‫يَا خَبِيرًا ِبفَقْرِي َوفَا َقتِي‬

O He who is aware of my poverty and
indigence!

َ‫سك‬
ِ ْ‫َأسْألُكَ بِحَقِّكَ َوقُد‬

I ask You by Your Truth and Your Holiness
َ‫صفَاتِكَ وََأسْمَائِك‬
ِ ِ‫وَأَعْظَم‬
And the greatest of Your Attributes and
Names,
ِ‫جعَلَ َأ ْوقَاتِي فِي اللَّيلِ وَالنَّهَار‬

ْ َ‫أن ت‬
،ً‫بِذِكْرِكَ مَ ْعمُو َرة‬
That You makest my times in the night and
the day inhabited by Your remembrance,
،ً‫دمَتِكَ مَوْصُولَة‬
ْ ِ‫وَبِخ‬
And joined to Your service
،ً‫وَّأَ ْع َماِلي عِنْدَكَ مَقْبُولَة‬

And my works acceptable to You,

‫حَتَّى تَكُونَ أَ ْع َماِلي وَأَوْرَادِي كُلُّهَا وِرْدًا‬

،‫وَّاحِدًا‬
So that my works and my litanies may all be
a single litany
‫دمَتِكَ سَ ْرمَدًا‬
ْ ِ‫حاِلي فِي خ‬
َ َّ‫و‬
And my occupation with Your service
everlasting.
‫ن َعلَيْهِ ُمعَوَّلِي‬
ْ َ‫ يَا م‬،‫يَا سَيِّدِي‬
My Master! O He upon whom I depend!
‫ن إلَيْهِ شَكَوْتُ أَحْ َواِلي‬

O He to whom I complain about my states!

‫دمَتِكَ جَوَارِحِي‬
ْ‫خ‬ِ ‫قَوِّ َعلَى‬
Strengthen my bodily members in Your
service,
‫وَاشْدُدْ عَلىَ اْلعَزِيمَةِ جَوَانِحِي‬

And fortify my ribs in determination
َ‫خشْيَتِك‬
َ ‫وَهَبْ لِي الْجِدَّ فِي‬
And bestow upon me earnestness in my fear
of You
َ‫دمَ ِتك‬
ْ ِ‫صاِل بِخ‬
َ ِّ‫وَالدَّوَامَ فِي اإلت‬
And continuity in my being joined to Your
service
َ‫ن السَّابِقِين‬
ِ ‫حَتَّى َأسْ َرحَ إِلَيكَ فِي مَيَادِي‬

So that I may move easily toward You in the

battlefields of the foremost
َ‫وَُأسْرِعَ إَليْكَ فِي الْمبُادِرِين‬

And hurry to You among the prominent
َ‫وََأشْتَاقَ إلىَ قُ ْربِكَ ِفي اْلمُشْتَاقِين‬

And desire fervently Your proximity among
the fervently desirous
َّ‫خلِصِينَ وَأَ ْدنُوَ مِنْكَ ُدنُو‬

ْ ‫الْ ُم‬
And move nearer to You with the nearness
of the sincere
َ‫وَأَخَافَكَ َمخَافَةَ اْلمُوقِنِين‬

And fear You with the fear of those who
have certitude

َ‫ع اْلمُؤْمنِين‬
َ َ‫وَأَجْ َت ِمعَ ِفي جِوَارِكَ م‬
And gather with the believers in Your
vicinity.
ُ‫اللَّهُمَّ َومَنْ أَرَا َدنِي ِبسُوٍء فَأَرِدْه‬

O Allah, whoever desires evil for me, desire
[it] for him!
‫َومَن كَادَِني فَكِدْ ُه‬

whoever deceives me-deceive him!
‫ج َعلْنِي ِمنْ أَحَسَنِ عَبِيدِكَ نَصِيبًا‬

ْ ‫وَا‬
َ‫عِنْدَك‬
And make me one of the most excellent of
Your slaves in Portion from You,

َ‫وََأقْ َربِهِم َّمنْزِلَةً مِّنْك‬

And the nearest of them in station to You
َ‫وَأَخَصِّهِمْ زُلْفَةً لَّديْك‬

And the most elected of them in proximity
to You.
‫ك‬
َ ِ‫ضل‬
ْ َ‫َفإِنَّهُ ال يُنَالُ ذَلِكَ إِالَّ بِف‬
For that cannot be attained except by Your
bounty.
َ‫وَجُدْ لِي بِجُودِك‬

And grant generously to me through Your
munificence,
َ‫طفْ َعلَيَّ ِبمَجْدِك‬

ِ ْ‫وَاع‬
And incline toward me with Your splendour

ْ َ‫وَاحْفَظْنِي بِر‬
And protect me with Your mercy!
‫جعَل ِّلسَانِي بِذِكْرِكَ لَهِجًا‬

ْ ‫وَا‬
And make my tongue remember You
without ceasing
‫َّو َقلْبِي بِحُبِّكَ مُتَيَّمًا‬

And my heart enthralled by Your love!
َ‫َّومُنَّ َعلَيَّ بِحُسْنِ إِجَابَتِك‬

And be gracious to me by answering me
favourably,
‫وََأ ِقلْنِي َعثْ َرتِي‬

And nullify my slips

‫وَاغْفِرْ زََّلتِي‬
And forgive my lapses!
َ‫َفإِنَّكَ قَضَيْتَ َعلَى عِبَادِكَ ِبعِبَا َدتِك‬

For You hast decreed Your worship for
Your servants
َ‫وََأمَ ْرتَهُم ِبدُعَائِك‬

And commanded them to supplicate You
َ‫ضمِنتَ لَهُمُ اإلِجَاَبة‬

َ َ‫و‬
And assured them that they would be
answered.
‫َفإِلَيْكَ يَا َربِّ نَصَبْتُ وَجْهِي‬

So toward You, my Lord, I have turned my
face

‫وَإلَيْكَ يَا رَبِّ مَدَدتُّ يَدِي‬

And toward You, my Lord, I have extended
my hand.
‫ِزتِكَ اسْتَجِبْ لِي دُعَائِي‬

َّ ‫فَ ِبع‬
So by Your might, comply with my
supplication
‫َلغْنِي مُنَاي‬
ِّ ‫َوب‬
And make me attain my desires!
‫ك رَجَائِي‬
َ ِ‫ضل‬
ْ َ‫طعْ مِن ف‬
َ ْ‫وَال تَق‬
Do not severe my hoping for Your Favours
‫إلْنسِ مِنْ أَعْدَائِي‬

ِ ‫وَاكْفِنِي شَرَّ الْجِنِّ وَا‬
And spare me the evil of my enemies from
among the jinn and men!

‫يَا سَرِيعَ الرِّضَا‬

O He, whose pleasure is quickly achieved!
َ‫اغْفِرْ ِلمَن ال َي ْملِكُ إِالَّ الدُّعَاء‬

Forgive him who owns nothing but
supplication
ُ‫َفإِنَّكَ فَعَّالٌ ِّلمَا تَشَاء‬

For You dost what You wilt.
ٌ‫ن اسْ ُمهُ دَوَاء‬

O He whose Name is a remedy,
ٌ‫وَذِكْ ُرهُ شِفَاء‬

And whose remembrance is a cure,
‫وَطَاعَتُهُ غِنًى‬

And whose obedience is wealth!
ُ‫ارْحَم مَّن رَّأْسُ َماِلهِ الرَّجَاء‬

Have mercy upon him whose capital is hope
ُ‫سالَحُهُ اْلبُكَاء‬
ِ ‫َو‬
And whose weapon is tears!
ِ‫النعَم‬
ِّ َ‫ساِبغ‬
َ ‫يَا‬
O Ample in blessings!
ِ‫يَا دَا ِفعَ النِّقَم‬

O Repeller of adversities!
ِ‫يَا نُورَ الْ ُمسْتَوْحِشِينَ فِي الظُّ َلم‬

O Light of those who are lonely in the
darkness!

ُ َّ‫يَا عَالِمًا ال ُيعَل‬
O Knower who was never taught!
‫د‬
ٍ َّ‫صَلِّ َعلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّآلِ مُحَم‬
Bless Muhammad and Muhammad's
household!
ُ‫ت أَهْ ُله‬

َ ‫وا ْفعَلْ بِي مَا أَن‬
And do with me what is worthy of You!
َ‫ألئِمَّةِ اْلمَيَامِين‬
َ ‫وَصَلَّى اللَّهُ َعلَى َرسُولِهِ وَا‬
‫مِنْ آلِ ِه‬
And Allah bless His messenger and the holy
Imams of his household
‫َوسَلَّمَ تَسْلِيمًا كَثِيرًا‬

Sadiq ‫ عليه السالم‬for Night of 15th
Sha’ban
Shaykh Ismaìl ibn Fazl al-Hashimi has

narrated that Imam Ja`far al-Sadiq ‫عليه السالم‬
instructed him to say the following
supplicatory prayer at the fifteenth night
of Sha`ban:

ُ‫ُم انْتَ ٱلْحَيُّ ٱلْقَيُّوم‬
O Allah, You are verily the Ever-living, the
Self-Subsisting,
ُ‫ٱْل َعلِيُّ ٱْلعَظِيم‬

the Most High, the All-great,

ُ‫ق ٱلرَّازِق‬
ُ ِ‫ٱلْخَال‬
the Creator, the Sustainer,
ُ‫ٱْلمُحْيِي ٱلْ ُممِيت‬

the Giver of live, the Causer of death,
‫ع‬
ُ ‫ٱلْبَدِي ُء ٱْلبَدِي‬
the Originator, the Maker.
ُ‫جالَل‬
َ ْ‫ك ٱل‬
َ َ‫ل‬
To You is the Majesty
ُ‫ك ٱلْ َفضْل‬

َ َ‫وَل‬
to You is the favor,
ُ‫ك ٱلْحَمْد‬
َ َ‫وَل‬
to You is all praise,

ُّ‫ك ٱْلمَن‬
َ َ‫وَل‬
to You is thanks,
ُ‫ك ٱلْجُود‬
َ َ‫وَل‬
to You is magnanimity,
ُ‫ك ٱلْكَرَم‬
َ َ‫وَل‬
to You is generosity,
‫ك ٱالمْ ُر‬
َ َ‫وَل‬
to You do belong all affairs,
ُ‫ك ٱْل َمجْد‬

َ َ‫وَل‬
to You is glory,
ُ‫ك ٱلشُّكْر‬
َ َ‫وَل‬
and to You is gratitude.

َ‫ك الَ شَرِيكَ لَك‬

َ َ‫وَحْد‬
You are alone without having any partner
with You.
ُ‫صمَد‬
َ ‫يَا وَاحِدُ يَا احَدُ يَا‬
O One! O Absolute! O Besought of all!
ْ‫م يُولَد‬
ْ َ‫ن لَمْ َيلِدْ وَل‬
O He Who neither begets nor is He begotten
ٌ‫حد‬
َ ‫م يَكُنْ لَ ُه كُفُوًا ا‬
ْ َ‫وَل‬
and there is none like to Him!
‫د‬
ٍ َّ‫صَلِّ َعلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَم‬
(Please do) bless Muhammad and the
Household of Muhammad,

‫حمْنِي‬
َ ْ‫وَٱغْفِرْ لِي وَٱر‬
forgive me, have mercy upon me,
‫وَٱكْفِنِي مَا اهَمَّنِي‬

relieve me from whatever has aggrieved me,
‫ض َديْنِي‬
ِ ْ‫وَٱق‬
help me settle my debt,
‫وَوَسِّعْ َعلَيَّ فِي رِ ْزقِي‬

and expand my provisions,
‫م‬
ٍ ‫ذ ِه ٱللَّيْ َل ِة كُلَّ امْرٍ حَكِي‬
ِ ٰ‫ك فِي ه‬
َ َّ‫َفإِن‬
ُ‫تَفْرُق‬
for You, at this night, make distinct all
affairs of wisdom,

ُ‫ك تَرْزُق‬
َ ‫خلْ ِق‬
َ ‫ن‬
ْ ِ‫ن تَشَاءُ م‬
ْ َ‫َوم‬
and You grant sustenance to whomever You
wish among Your creatures.
َ‫ت خَيْ ُر ٱلرَّا ِزقِين‬

َ ْ‫فَٱرْ ُزقْنِي وَان‬
So, (please do) grant me sustenance and You
are verily the Best of sustainers.
:َ‫ن ٱلنَّاطِقِين‬
َ ‫ت خَيْ ُر ٱلْقَاِئلِي‬
َ ْ‫ت وَان‬
َ ْ‫َفإِنَّكَ ُقل‬
You have said—and You are the Best of
those who speak and utter—
﴾ِ‫ضلِه‬
ْ َ‫﴿وَٱسْالُوٱ ٱللَّهَ مِنْ ف‬
“Ask Allah of His bounty.”
‫ل‬
ُ ‫ك اسْا‬
َ ‫ن فَضْ ِل‬
ْ ِ‫َفم‬
I thus ask You of Your bounty,

ُ‫ك قَصَدْت‬
َ ‫وَإِيَّا‬
to You do I turn my face,
ُ‫ك ٱعْ َتمَدْت‬

َ ِّ‫ن نَبِي‬
َ ْ‫وَٱب‬
the intercession of Your Prophet’s son do I
seek,
ُ‫جوْت‬
َ َ‫وَلَكَ ر‬
and for You do I hope.
َ‫حمِين‬
َ َ‫حمْنِي يَا ارْح‬
َ ْ‫فَٱر‬
So, (please do) have mercy upon me, O
most Merciful of all those who show mercy!

Supplication of Holy
Prophet ‫ صىل هللا عليه وآله وسلم‬for Night of
15th Sha’ban
It is recommended to say this

supplicatory prayer, which the Holy
Prophet ‫ صىل هللا عليه وآله وسلم‬used to say at this
night:

َ‫ُم ٱقْسِمْ لَنَا مِنْ خَشْيَتِك‬
O Allah, (please do) grant us an amount of
fearfulness of You
َ‫ل َبيْنَنَا َوبَيْنَ َمعْصِيَتِك‬
ُ ‫مَا يَحُو‬
that prevents us from committing acts of

َ‫ن طَاعَتِكَ مَا تُبَلِّ ُغنَا بِهِ رِضْوَانَك‬

ْ ِ‫َوم‬
an amount of obedience to You that makes
us attain Your satisfaction,
‫ت‬
ُ ‫ن ٱلْيَقِينِ مَا يَهُونُ َعلَيْنَا ِبهِ مُصِيبَا‬
َ ِ‫َوم‬
‫ٱلدُّنْيَا‬
and an amount of conviction that help us
tolerate the vicissitudes of this worldly life.
‫سمَا ِعنَا وَابْصَا ِرنَا َوقُوَّتِنَا‬
ْ ‫ُم امْتِ ْعنَا بِا‬
O Allah, (please do) make us enjoy our
hearings, sights, and powers,
‫ج َعلْ ُه ٱْلوَارِثَ مِنَّا‬
ْ ‫مَا احْيَيْتَنَا وَٱ‬
as long as You decide to keep us alive, and
(please do) make it the inheritor of us.

‫ن َظ َلمَنَا‬
ْ َ‫ل ثَا َرنَا َعلَىٰ م‬
ْ َ‫جع‬
ْ ‫وَٱ‬
(Please do) make us avenge ourselves
against them who wrong us,
‫وَٱنْصُ ْرنَا َعلَىٰ مَنْ عَادَانَا‬
back us against them who antagonize us,
‫جعَلْ مُصِيبَتَنَا فِي دِينِنَا‬
ْ َ‫ال ت‬
َ َ‫و‬
do not make us suffer misfortunes in affairs
of our religion,
َ‫ل ٱلدُّنْيَا اكْبَ َر هَمِّنَا وَالَ مَ ْب َلغ‬
ِ َ‫جع‬
ْ َ‫ال ت‬
َ َ‫و‬
‫ِع ْلمِنَا‬
do not make our worldly affairs happen to
be our greatest concern or our utmost
knowledge,

‫حمُنَا‬
َ ْ‫وَالَ تُسَلِّطْ َعلَيْنَا مَنْ الَ يَر‬
and do set one who does not have mercy
upon us as master over us,
َ‫حمِين‬
َ َ‫حمَتِكَ يَا ارْح‬
ْ َ‫بِر‬
in the name of Your mercy, O most
Merciful of all those who show mercy!

Dua to be recited after Shaf Prayer

on 15th Night of Sha’ban
Shaykh al-Tusi and Shaykh al-Kafàmi

say: It is suitable to say the following
supplicatory prayer at this night:

‫ل‬
ِ ْ‫إِلٰهِي َتعَرَّضَ لَكَ فِي هٰذَا ٱللَّي‬
َ‫ٱْلمُ َتعَرِّضُون‬
O Allah! Tonight, the seekers of favors,
restless and eager, present themselves to
You,
َ‫ك ٱلْقَاصِدُون‬
َ َ‫َوقَصَد‬
the determined aspirers have You in mind,

َ‫ك ٱلطَّالِبُون‬
َ َ‫ضلَكَ َو َمعْرُوف‬
ْ َ‫ل ف‬
َ َّ‫وَام‬
and those who make requests look long and
attentively at Your obligingness and
kindness.
ُ‫ك فِي هٰذَا ٱللَّيْلِ َنفَحَاتٌ وَجَوَائِز‬

َ َ‫وَل‬
You, at this night, give gifts, bounties
beyond measure,
ُ‫وَعَطَايَا َومَوَاهِب‬
free donations, and favors
َ‫َتمُنُّ بِهَا َعلَىٰ مَنْ َتشَاءُ مِنْ عِبَادِك‬

to those whom You will from among Your
servants when they make a request,
‫ك‬
َ ْ‫م تَسْبِقْ لَ ُه ٱْلعِنَايَةُ مِن‬
ْ َ‫َوَتمْ َنعُهَا َمنْ ل‬

and You say no to those who do not try to

get in advance (i.e. remain behind) for
obtaining the bounties from You.
َ‫ك ٱلْفَقِي ُر إَِليْك‬

َ ُ‫وَهَا انَا ذَا عُبَيْد‬
I, a modest needy bondman,
َ‫ضلَكَ َومَ ْعرُوفَك‬

ْ َ‫ل ف‬
ُ ِّ‫ٱْلمُؤَم‬
am hopeful of Your obligingness and
kindness.
‫ي‬
َ ‫ن كُنْتَ يَا مَوْال‬
ْ ِ‫َفإ‬
Indeed, if You, O My Master,
ِ‫ذ ِه ٱ َّلل ْيلَة‬

ِ ٰ‫تَفَضَّلْتَ فِي ه‬
bestows a favor on any one, at this night,
‫ك‬
َ ِ‫خلْق‬
َ ‫ن‬
ْ ِ‫ى احَدٍ م‬
ٰ َ‫َعل‬

from among Your created beings,
َ‫وَعُدْتَ عَلَيْ ِه ِبعَائِدَ ٍة مِنْ عَطْفِك‬

and multiply profits and gains for him out of
Your love and affection,
‫د‬
ٍ َّ‫فَصَلِّ َعلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَم‬
please send blessings to Muhammad and the
Household of Muhammad:
َ‫ن ٱلطَّاهِرِين‬
َ ‫ٱلطَّيِّبِي‬
the pure, the immaculate,
َ‫ضلِين‬
ِ ‫ن ٱلْفَا‬
َ ‫ٱلْخَيِّرِي‬
the virtuous, and the righteous,
َ‫وَجُدْ َعلَيَّ بِطَوْلِكَ َو َمعْرُوفِك‬

and then give me abundantly on account of

Your liberality and obligingness,
َ‫يَا رَبَّ ٱْلعَاَلمِين‬

O Lord of the worlds!
َ‫م ٱلنَّبِيِّين‬
ِ َ‫د خَات‬
ٍ َّ‫ى ٱللَّهُ َعلَىٰ مُحَم‬
May Allah send blessings to Muhammad,
the seal of the Prophets,
َ‫وَآلِ ِه ٱلطَّاهِرِين‬
and upon his Household, the immaculate,
‫م تَسْلِيمًا‬
َ َّ‫َوسَل‬
and may He exalt them very much.
ٌ‫حمِيدٌ مَجِيد‬
َ َ‫إِنَّ ٱللَّه‬

Verily, Allah is worthy of all praise, full of

all glory.
‫ت‬
َ ْ‫ك َكمَا امَر‬
َ ‫ُم إِنِّي ادْعُو‬
O Allah, I am praying You as You ordered
me to do;
َ‫فَٱسْتَجِبْ لِي َكمَا وَعَدْت‬

so, (please) respond to me as You promised.
َ‫ف ٱْلمِيعَاد‬
ُ ‫خ ِل‬
ْ ُ‫ك الَ ت‬
َ َّ‫إِن‬
Verily, You never break Your promise.

Dua in Prostration of Holy

Prophet ‫ صىل هللا عليه وآله وسلم‬on Night of
15th Sha’ban
It is recommended to do the prostrations

and say the supplicatory prayers that are
reported from the Holy Prophet . One of
these is that Shaykh al-Tusi has narrated
on the authority of Hammad ibn Isa on the
authority of Aban ibn Taghlib on the
authority of Imam Ja`far al-Sadiq ‫عليه السالم‬
recounted the following:
It was the fifteenth night of Sha`ban
when the Holy Prophet ‫ صىل هللا عليه وآله وسلم‬was
with À’ishah, his wife. At midnight, the
Holy Prophet ‫ صىل هللا عليه وآله وسلم‬left the bed.
When À’ishah woke up and could not

find him, she felt jealous and thought that

he had joined one of his other wives.
A’ishah searched for the Holy
Prophet ‫ صىل هللا عليه وآله وسلم‬in all of the rooms
of his other wives but she found him
prostrating himself on the ground like a
thrown dress. As she approached, she
heard him saying:

‫سَجَدَ لَكَ سَوَادِي َوخَيَالِي‬
Prostrating before You are my body and my
shadow.
‫ن بِكَ فُؤَادِي‬
َ َ‫وَآم‬
My heart is full of faith of You.
‫ى نَ ْفسِي‬
ٰ َ‫ي َومَا جَنَيْتُهُ َعل‬
َ ‫ذ ِه يَدَا‬
ِ ٰ‫ه‬

These are my two hands and this is what I

have committed against myself.
ٍ‫يَا عَظِيمُ ُترْجَىٰ لِكُلِّ عَظِيم‬

O All-great! You are hoped for all enormous
things.
َ‫ي ٱلْعَظِيم‬
َ ِ‫إِغْفِرْ ل‬
Please, forgive me my serious offences,
ُّ‫ِال ٱلرَّب‬
َّ ‫م إ‬
َ ‫ب ٱْلعَظِي‬
َ ْ‫َفإِنَّ ُه الَ َيغْ ِف ُر ٱلذَّن‬
ُ‫ٱْلعَظِيم‬
because none can forgive the serious sin
except the All-great Lord.
The Holy Prophet ‫ صىل هللا عليه وآله وسلم‬then

raised his head and then prostrated

himself again, saying:
َ‫اعُو ُذ بِنُورِ وَجْهِك‬

I seek the protection of the light of Your
Face
َ‫ٱلَّذِي اضَاءَتْ لَ ُه ٱلسَّمَاوَاتُ وَٱالرَضُون‬

that has lit the heavens and the earth,
ُ‫وَٱنْكَشَفَتْ لَ ُه ٱلظُّلُمَات‬
removed all darkness,
َ‫ص َلحَ َعلَيْ ِه امْرُ ٱالوَّلِينَ وَٱآلخِرِين‬

َ َ‫و‬
and made active all the affairs of the past
and the coming generations
َ‫ن فُجْا ِة َن ِقمَتِك‬

ْ ِ‫م‬

against Your sudden chastisement,
َ‫ن تَحْوِيلِ عَافِيَتِك‬

ْ ِ‫َوم‬
against withdrawing the good health that
You have granted me,
َ‫َومِنْ زَوَالِ ِن ْعمَتِك‬

and against the vanishing of Your bounties.
‫ُم ٱرْ ُزقْنِي َقلْبًا تَقِيًِّا نَقِيًِّا‬

O Allah, (please) grant me a heart that is
pious and pure,
‫ك بَرِيئًا‬
ِ ْ‫ن ٱلشِّر‬
َ ِ‫َوم‬
released from polytheism,
‫ال شَقِيًِّا‬
َ َ‫الَ كَافِرًا و‬
and neither atheist nor unhappy.

The Holy Prophet ‫ صىل هللا عليه وآله وسلم‬then

attached his face to the ground and said:
ِ‫عَفَّرْتُ وَجْهِي فِي ٱلتُّرَاب‬

I am putting my face on the ground
َ‫د لَك‬
َ ُ‫ن اسْج‬
ْ ‫وَحُقَّ لِي ا‬
and it is my duty to prostrate myself before
You.
When the Holy Prophet ‫صىل هللا عليه وآله وسلم‬

accomplished these acts of worship and
directed towards his bed, À'ishah ran
before him until she reached the bed
before he did. When he heard her speedy

breathes, the Holy Prophet ‫صىل هللا عليه وآله وسلم‬

wondered. He then said, “Do you know
what this night is? This is the mid-
Sha`ban night. At this night, shares of
provisions are distributed, lifetimes are
decided, and the pilgrims are appointed.
Verily, Almighty Allah, at this night,
forgives as many of His creatures as the
hairs of the horses of Kalb Tribe.
Almighty Allah also orders angels to
descend to the earth, to Makkah, at this
night.

Ziyarah Istegatha of Imam Zaman

‫عجل هللا تعایل فرجه ر‬
‫الشیف‬
In his book of al-Kalim al-Tayyib,

Sayyid Àli Khan says, “The following is
a form of seeking aid from The Argument
of Allah and the Patron of the Age (Imam
al-Mahdi) ‫عليه السالم‬: Wherever you are, you
may offer a two-unit prayer, reading
Surah al-Fatihah and any other one in
each unit. Yet, it is advisable to read
Surah al-Fath (No. 48) in the first unit
and Surah al-Nasr (No. 110) in the
second. You may then stand up, facing
the kiblah direction under the sky and
then say the following:

ُّ‫ل ٱلتَّام‬
ُ ِ‫سَالَ ُم ٱللَّهِ ٱلْكَام‬
Peace of Allah—perfect, complete,
ُّ‫ل ٱْلعَام‬
ُ ِ‫ٱلشَّام‬
comprehensive, and thorough;
‫صلَوَاتُ ُه ٱلدَّاِئمَ ُة‬

َ َ‫و‬
and His endless benedictions
ُ‫َّامة‬
َّ ‫َوبَرَكَاتُ ُه ٱلْقَاِئمَ ُة ٱلت‬
and His everlasting, perfect blessings
ِ‫ى حُجَّ ِة ٱللَّه‬

ٰ َ‫َعل‬
be upon the Argument of Allah,
ِ‫وَ َولِيِّ ِه فِي ارْضِهِ َوبِال ِده‬

His representative in His lands and realm,

ِ‫خلْقِهِ وَعِبَا ِده‬

َ ‫ى‬
ٰ َ‫خلِيفَتِهِ َعل‬
َ َ‫و‬
His viceroy among His creatures and
servants,
ِ‫َوسُاللَ ِة ٱلنُّبُوَّة‬
the offspring of Prophethood,
ِ‫َوبَقِيَّ ِة ٱْل ِعتْ َرةِ وَٱلصَّفْ َوة‬

the completion of the (Holy) Progeny and
the Choice Ones,
‫ن‬
ِ ‫ب ٱلزَّمَا‬
ِ ِ‫صَاح‬
the Patron of the Age,
‫ن‬
ِ ‫َومُظْهِ ِر ٱإلِيـمَا‬
the demonstrator of the (true) faith,

ِ‫حكَا ِم ٱلْقُرْآن‬
ْ ‫نا‬
ِ ِّ‫َو ُملَق‬
the teacher of the laws of the Qur’an,
ِ‫َومُطَهِّ ِر ٱال ْرض‬

the purger of the earth,
ِ‫ل فِي ٱلطُّولِ وَٱْلعَ ْرض‬

ِ‫د‬ْ َ‫َونَاشِ ِر ٱْلع‬
the spreader of justice all over the earth,
ِّ‫م ٱْلمَهْدِي‬
ِ ِ‫وَٱلْحُجَّ ِة ٱلْقَائ‬
the Argument (al-Hujjah), the Riser (al-
Qa’im), the Well-guided (al-Mahdi),
ِّ‫ٱإلِمَا ِم ٱْلمُنْتَظَ ِر ٱْلمَرْضِي‬

the Leader, the Awaited, the Pleased,
َ‫ن ٱالئِمَّ ِة ٱلطَّاهِرِين‬

ِ ْ‫وَٱب‬

the descendant of the Infallible Imams,
َ‫ن ٱالوْصِيَا ِء ٱْلمَرْضِيِّين‬

ِ ْ‫ٱلْوَصِيِّ ٱب‬
the Successor, the son of the Pleased
Successors (of the Prophets),
ِ‫ٱلْهَادِي ٱْل َمعْصُوم‬

the Guide, the Immaculate,
َ‫ن ٱالئِمَّ ِة ٱلْهُدَا ِة ٱلْ َمعْصُومِين‬

ِ ْ‫ٱب‬
and the son of the Imams—the guides and
immaculate.
‫ن‬
َ ‫ِز ٱْلمُ ْؤمِنِي‬
َّ ‫ك يَا ُمع‬
َ ْ‫السَّالَمُ َعلَي‬
َ‫ض َعفِين‬
ْ َ‫ٱْلمُسْت‬
Peace be upon you, O grantor of dignity to
the oppressed and faithful ones.

َ ‫ك يَا مُذِلَّ ٱلْكَافِرِي‬
َ ْ‫السَّالمُ َعلَي‬
َ‫ن ٱلظَّاِلمِين‬
َ ‫ٱْلمُتَكَبِّرِي‬
Peace be upon you, O humiliator of the
arrogant and oppressing unbelievers.
ِ‫ب ٱلزَّمَان‬
َ ِ‫ي يَا صَاح‬
َ ‫ك يَا مَوْال‬
Peace be upon you, O my master, the Patron
of the Age.
ِ‫ٱلله‬
َّ ‫ل‬ِ ‫ن َرسُو‬
َ ْ‫ك يَا ب‬
Peace be upon you, O son of Allah’s
Messenger.
َ‫ن امِي ِر ٱْلمُؤْ ِمنِين‬

َ ْ‫السَّال ُم َعلَي‬
Peace be upon you, O son of the
Commander of the Believers.

ِ‫ن فَا ِطمَ َة ٱلزَّهْرَاء‬

َ ْ‫السِّالمُ َعلَي‬
Peace be upon you, O son of Fatimah the
Luminous
َ‫د ِة نِسَا ِء ٱْلعَاَلمِين‬

َ ِّ‫سَي‬
and the Doyenne of the women of the world.
ِ‫جج‬
َ ُ‫ن ٱالئِمَّ ِة ٱلْح‬
َ‫ٱْل َمعْصُومِين‬
Peace be upon you, O son of the Imams—
the arguments (of Allah) and Immaculate
َ‫ج َمعِين‬
ْ ‫قا‬
ِ ْ‫خل‬
َ ْ‫ى ٱل‬
ٰ َ‫وَٱإلِمَامُ َعل‬
and the leader of all creatures.
َ‫السَّالمُ َعلَيْكَ يَا مَوْالي‬

Peace be upon you, O my master
ِ‫ك فِي ٱلْوِالَية‬

َ َ‫سَالمَ مُخْ ِلصٍ ل‬
addressed by him who is loyal to your
(divinely commissioned) leadership.
‫ال‬
ً ْ‫ك ٱإلِمَا ُم ٱلْ َمهْدِيُّ قَوْالً َو ِفع‬
َ َّ‫د ان‬
ُ َ‫اشْه‬
I bear witness that you are the well-guided
Imam in word and deed,
ً‫ض قِسْطًا وَعَدْال‬

َ ‫ت ٱلَّذِي َتمْ َلا ٱال ْر‬
َ ْ‫وَان‬
it is you who shall fill the earth with justice
and impartiality
‫ت ُظلْمًا َوجَوْرًا‬
ْ َ‫َبعْدَ مَا ُملِئ‬
after it will be filled with wrong and
partiality.

‫ك‬
َ َ‫ل ٱللَّ ُه فَرَج‬
َ َّ‫َفعَج‬
So, may Allah hasten your reappearance,
َ‫َوسَهَّلَ مَخْرَجَك‬
make easy your advent,
َ‫َوقَرَّبَ َزمَانَك‬
make nearer the time of your coming,
َ‫وَكَثَّ َر انْصَارَكَ وَاعْوَانَك‬

increase the number of your supporters and
backers,
َ‫ك مَا وَعَدَك‬

َ َ‫وَانْجَزَ ل‬
and fulfill for you all that which He has
promised you.

:َ‫ق ٱلْقَاِئلِين‬
ُ َ‫فَهُ َو اصْد‬
He is surely the most truthful of all those
who can speak (and He has said):
‫ضعِفُوا‬
ْ ‫ن ٱسْ ُت‬
َ ‫ن َنمُنَّ َعلَىٰ ٱلَّذِي‬
ْ ‫دا‬
ُ ‫( َونُرِي‬
ِ‫فِي ٱال ْرض‬
“We desired to bestow a favor upon those
who were deemed weak in the land,
)َ‫م ٱلْوَا ِرثِين‬

ُ ُ‫جعَ َله‬
ْ َ‫م ائِمَّةً َون‬
ْ ُ‫ج َعلَه‬
ْ َ‫َون‬
make them the Imams, and make them the
heirs.”
ِ‫ب ٱلزَّمَان‬
َ ِ‫يَا مَوْاليَ يَا صَاح‬
O my master! O Patron of the Age!

‫ل ٱللَّ ِه‬
ِ ‫يَا بْنَ َرسُو‬
O son of Allah’s Messenger!
…‫حَاجَتِي‬
My request is...
Mention your need and then go on

saying:
‫حهَا‬
ِ ‫ع لِي فِي نَجَا‬
ْ َ‫فَٱشْف‬
So, intercede for me so that it will be settled,
‫ك بِحَاجَتِي‬
َ ْ‫ت إِلَي‬
ُ ْ‫د تَوَجَّه‬
ْ َ‫فَق‬
for I am turning my face towards you for
settling my request,

ً‫د ٱللَّهِ شَفَاعَةً مَقْبُوَلة‬

َ ْ‫ِل ِع ْلمِي انَّ َلكَ عِن‬
since I know for sure that you enjoy with
Allah admissible word of intercession,
‫حمُودًا‬
ْ َ‫َومَقَامًا م‬
and praiseworthy standing.
‫م بِامْرِ ِه‬
ْ ُ‫ن ٱخْتَصَّك‬
ِ َ‫فَبِحَقِّ م‬
So, I ask you in the name of Him Who
granted you (i.e. the Ahl al-Bayt)
exclusively the right of representing Him,
ِ‫وَٱ ْرتَضَاكُمْ لِسِرِّه‬

and admitted you all to keep His secrets,
‫م‬
ْ ُ‫د ٱللَّهِ بَ ْينَك‬
َ ْ‫ن ٱَّلذِي لَكُمْ عِن‬
ِ ‫َوبِٱلشَّا‬

ُ‫َوبَيْ َنه‬
and I ask you in the name of the standing
that you exclusively enjoy with Allah,
‫ح َطلِبَتِي‬
ِ ‫ج‬
ْ ُ‫ى فِي ن‬
ٰ َ‫ل ٱللَّهَ َتعَال‬
ِ َ‫س‬
to ask Allah, the Exalted, to render
successful my request,
‫وَإِجَابَ ِة دَعْ َوتِي‬

to answer my prayer,
‫ف كُ ْربَتِي‬
ِ ‫ش‬
ْ َ‫وَك‬
and to relieve my grief.
You may then ask for whatever you

want, and it will be settled for you, by
Allah’s permission.

applier of His religion.

Peace be upon you, O viceroy of Allah and
backer of His right.

Peace be upon you, O Argument of Allah
and sign of His volition.
ِ‫ب ٱللَّه‬
ِ ‫ي كِتَا‬
َ ‫ك يَا تَاِل‬
َ ْ‫اَلسَّالَمُ َعلَي‬
ُ‫جمَانَه‬
ُ ْ‫َوتَر‬
Peace be upon you, O reciter of the Book of
Allah and its interpreter.
ِ‫ك فِي آنَاءِ لَ ْيلِكَ وَا طْرَاف‬

َّ ‫ا‬
َ‫نَهَارِك‬
Peace be upon you at the hours of Your
night and the two ends of Your day.
ِ‫ضه‬
ِ ْ‫ِي َة ٱللَّ ِه فِي ا ر‬
َّ ‫ك يَا بَق‬
َّ ‫ا‬

Peace be upon you, O herald of Allah on His

lands.
‫ذ ُه‬
َ َ‫ق ٱللَّ ِه ٱلَّذِي ا خ‬
َ ‫ك يَا مِيثَا‬
َّ ‫ا‬
ُ‫ده‬
َ َّ‫وَوَك‬
Peace be upon you, O covenant of Allah that
He has made and confirmed.
ُ‫ضمِنَه‬
َ ‫د ٱللَّ ِه ٱلَّذِي‬
َ ْ‫ك يَا وَع‬
َّ ‫ا‬
Peace be upon you, O Promise of Allah that
He has assured.
ُ‫م ٱْلمَنْصُوب‬
ُ َ‫ك ا يُّهَا ٱْل َعل‬
َّ ‫ا‬
Peace be upon you, O appointed pennon,
ُ‫م ٱْلمَصْبُوب‬
ُ ْ‫وَٱْل ِعل‬
poured knowledge,

ُ‫سعَة‬
ِ ‫حمَ ُة ٱلْوَا‬
ْ َّ‫وَٱْلغَوْثُ وَٱلر‬
aid, and expansive mercy.
ٍ‫وَعْدًا غَيْرَ مَكْذُوب‬

This is verily a promise that shall never be
belied.
ُ‫ن تَقوُم‬
َ ‫ك حِي‬
َّ ‫ا‬
Peace be upon you whenever you rise (to
undertake the mission).
‫د‬
ُ ُ‫ن تَ ْقع‬
َ ‫ك حِي‬
َ ْ‫َلسالَ ُم َعلَي‬
َّ ‫ا‬
Peace be upon you whenever you sit.
ُ‫ن تَقْرَا َوتُبَيِّن‬

َ ‫ك حِي‬
َّ ‫ا‬
Peace be upon you whenever you recite and
elucidate.

ُ‫ن تُصَلِّي َوتَقْنُت‬

َ ‫ك حِي‬
َّ ‫ا‬
Peace be upon you whenever you offer
prayer and supplicate.
ُ‫ن تَرْ َكعُ َوتَسْجُد‬

َ ‫ك حِي‬
َّ ‫ا‬
Peace be upon you whenever you genuflect
and prostrate (yourself for Allah).
ُ‫ن تُهَلِّلُ َوتُكَبِّر‬

َ ‫ك حِي‬
َّ ‫ا‬
Peace be upon you whenever you profess
Allah’s Godhead and profess His All-
greatness.
ُ‫حمَدُ وََتسْ َتغْفِر‬

ْ َ‫ن ت‬
َ ‫ك حِي‬
َّ ‫ا‬
Peace be upon you whenever you praise
Allah and implore for His forgiveness.

‫ن تُصْ ِبحُ َوُتمْسِي‬

َ ‫ك حِي‬
َّ ‫ا‬
Peace be upon you whenever you begin and
end your day.
ٰ‫ل إِذَا يَ ْغشَى‬

ِ ْ‫ك فِي ٱللَّي‬
َ ْ‫َلسالَ ُم َعلَي‬
َّ ‫ا‬
Peace be upon you in the night when it
draws a veil
ٰ‫وَٱلنَّهَا ِر إِذَا تَجَلَّى‬

and the day when it shines in brightness.
ُ‫إلمَا ُم ٱْلمَامُون‬
ِ ‫ك ا يُّهَا ٱ‬
َّ ‫ا‬
Peace be upon you, O entrusted leader.
‫ل‬
ُ ‫ك ا يُّهَا ٱْلمُقَدَّ ُم ٱْلمَامُو‬
َّ ‫ا‬
Peace be upon you, O favored and expected.

‫لسالَ ِم‬
َّ ‫ع ٱ‬
ِ ‫ك بِجَوَا ِم‬
َّ ‫ا‬
Peace be upon you to the ultimate meaning
of peace.
‫ي‬
َ َ‫ك يَا مَوْال‬
َ ُ‫اشْهِد‬
I solicit you, O my master,
ُ‫ال إِلٰهَ إِالَّ ٱللَّه‬

َ ْ‫د ا ن‬
ُ َ‫انِّي ا شْه‬
to testify to me that I bear witness that there
is no god but Allah;
ُ‫دهُ الَ شَرِيكَ لَه‬

َ ْ‫وَح‬
One and Only Lord and having no associate,
ُ‫د ُه َو َرسُوُله‬
ُ ْ‫وَا نَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَب‬
and that Muhammad is His servant and
messenger.

ُ‫ب إِالَّ هُوَ وَا ْهلُه‬

َ ‫الَ حَبِي‬
There is no one more beloved by Allah than
him and his household.
‫ي‬
َ َ‫وَاشْهِدُكَ يَا مَوْال‬
And I solicit you, O my master, to testify to
me that I bear witness
ُ‫ن حُجَّتُه‬
َ ‫ا نَّ َعلِيًِّا ا ِمي َر ٱْلمُ ْؤمِنِي‬
that Àli the Commander of the Faithful is
His argument,
ُ‫وَٱلْحَسَنَ حُجَّ ُته‬

al-Hasan is His argument,
ُ‫ن حُجَّ ُته‬

َ ْ‫حسَي‬
ُ ْ‫وَٱل‬
al-Husainis His argument,

ِ ْ‫ن ٱلْحُسَي‬
َ ْ‫ِي ب‬
َّ ‫وَ َعل‬
Àli the son of al-Husainis His argument,
ُ‫د بْنَ َعلِيٍّ حُجَّتُه‬

َ َّ‫َومُحَم‬
Muhammad the son of Àli is His argument,
ُ‫جعْفَ َر بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ حُجَّ ُته‬

َ َ‫و‬
Ja`far the son of Muhammad is His
argument,
ُ‫جعْفَرٍ حُجَّ ُته‬

َ ‫ن‬
َ ْ‫ى ب‬
ٰ َ‫وَم ُوس‬
Musa the son of Ja`far is His argument,
ُ‫ى حُجَّ ُته‬

ٰ َ‫ِي بْنَ مُوس‬
Àli the son of Musa is His argument,
ُ‫ِي حُجَّتُه‬
ٍّ ‫د بْنَ َعل‬
َ َّ‫َومُحَم‬

Muhammad the son of Àli is His argument,
ُ‫ُجتُه‬
َّ ‫ِي بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ ح‬
Àli the son of Muhammad is His argument,
ُ‫ِي حُجَّ ُته‬

ٍّ ‫ن بْنَ َعل‬
َ َ‫وَٱلْحَس‬
and al-Hasan the son of Àli is His
argument.
ِ‫ك حُجَّ ُة ٱللَّه‬

َ َّ‫د ان‬
ُ َ‫وَا شْه‬
I also bear witness that you are verily the
argument of Allah.
ُ‫م ٱال وَّلُ وَٱآلخِر‬

ُ ُ‫انْت‬
You all are the first and the last.
‫ب فِيهَا‬
َ ْ‫م حَقٌّ الَ َري‬
ْ ُ‫جعَتَك‬
ْ َ‫وَا نَّ ر‬

And (I bear witness) that your (promised)

Return is undoubtedly true
‫ع نَفْسًا إِيـمَانُهَا‬
ُ ‫ال يَنْ َف‬
َ َ‫يَوْم‬
“On the day when its belief avails not a soul
ُ‫ن قَ ْبل‬
ْ ِ‫ن آ َمنَتْ م‬
ْ ُ‫م تَك‬
ْ َ‫ل‬
which theretofore believed not,
‫ت فِي إِيـمَاِنهَا خَيْرًا‬

ْ َ‫ا ْو كَسَب‬
nor in its belief earned good by works,”
ٌّ‫ت حَق‬
َ ْ‫ن ٱْلمَو‬
َّ ‫وَا‬
death is true,
ٌّ‫ن نَاكِرًا َونَكيرًا حَق‬

َّ ‫وَا‬
and Nakir and Nakir are true.

ٌّ‫ن ٱلنَّشْ َر حَق‬

َّ ‫د ا‬
ُ َ‫وَا شْه‬
And I bear witness that the Raising for death
is true,
ٌّ‫ث حَق‬
َ َ‫وَٱلْ َبع‬
the Resurrection is true,
ٌّ‫ط حَق‬
َ ‫ن ٱلصِّرَا‬
َّ ‫وَا‬
the Discriminating Bridge is true,
ٌّ‫وَٱْلمِرْصَا َد حَق‬
the Watchtower is true,
ٌّ‫ن حَق‬
َ ‫وَٱْلمِيزَا‬
the Balance (of deeds) is true,
ٌّ‫وَٱلْحَشْ َر حَق‬

the Gathering is true,
ٌّ‫ب حَق‬
َ ‫وَٱلْحِسَا‬
the Reckoning is true,
ٌّ‫وَٱلْجَنَّةَ وَٱلنَّا َر حَق‬

Paradise and Hell are true,
ٌّ‫د بِ ِهمَا حَق‬

َ ‫وَٱلْوَعْدَ وَٱلْوَعِي‬
and the promise of Paradise and the threat
with Hell are true.
ْ‫اليَ شَقِيَ مَنْ خَالَفَكُم‬

َ ْ‫يَا مَو‬
O My master! Certainly wretched is he who
opposes you
ْ‫ن ا طَاعَكُم‬
ْ َ‫سعِدَ م‬
َ ‫َو‬
and certainly happy is he who obeys you.

ِ‫دتُكَ َعلَيْه‬
ْ ‫فَٱشْهَدْ عَ َلىٰ مَا ا شْ َه‬
So, testify to me all that which I have
besought you to testify.
َ‫وَانَا وَلِيٌّ لَك‬

I am verily an ally of you
َ‫بَرِيءٌ مِنْ عَدُوِّك‬

and denouncing your enemy.
ُ‫فَٱلْحَقُّ مَا رَضِي ُتمُوه‬

The truth is only that which you accept,
ُ‫وَٱلْبَاطِلُ مَا ا سْخَطْ ُتمُوه‬

the wrong is only that which you disallow,
ِ‫م ِبه‬
ْ ُ‫وَٱْل َمعْرُوفُ مَا ا مَ ْرت‬

the good is only that which you enjoin,
ُ‫وَٱْلمُنْكَرُ مَا نَهَيْتُمْ عَنْه‬

and the evil is only that which you forbid.
ِ‫فَنَفْسِي مُ ْؤمِنَ ٌة بِٱللَّه‬

My soul is thus believing in Allah;
ُ‫دهُ الَ شَريكَ لَه‬

َ ْ‫وَح‬
One and Only Lord and having no associate,
َ‫َوبِ َرسُولِهِ وَبِا مِي ِر ٱْلمُ ْؤمِنِين‬

and also in His Messenger, in the
Commander of the Faithful,
ْ‫ي ا وَِّلكُمْ وَآخِرِكُم‬

َ ‫ال‬
َ ْ‫م يَا َمو‬
ْ ُ‫َوبِك‬
and in you all, O my master, from the
beginning to the end.

َّ ‫َونُصْ َرتِي ُمع‬
I have prepared myself to back you
ْ‫َدتِي خَالِصَةٌ لَكُم‬

َّ ‫َومَو‬
and my love is sincerely dedicated to you.
َ‫ن آمِين‬
َ ‫آمِي‬

Translation of Ariza
I have written to you O my master, may

His mercy and blessing be on you,
seeking a favour from you.
I have complained to you for what has

happened to me seeking solutions firstly
from Allah and then from you for a
matter that has obsessed me.
I am helpless in combating the problem

and for that I have resorted to seeking
help from Allah and from you. Knowing
the status you have with Allah.

I am confident that you will help me get

the solutions to my problems swiftly and
that you will intercede on my behalf. I
am helpless and moreover I am sinful:
so help O master and present this
problem to Allah and I pray to Him that
He will solve this quickly and grant me
victory and success in finding the
solution to my problems.
I am not able to carry or bear with it.

Although I am responsible for the
increase of my sins and ignorant about
my responsibilities (Wajibaats) from
Allah which are given to me.

So help me O my master. Peace be upon

you during this time of problems and
sorrow.
Present my prayers to Allah before I

compensate and before my enemies
engulf me, for you have shown me your
blessings.
So I pray to Allah for great salvation and

near victory with calmness from all fears,
for Allah is most high and does what he
wants. Allah is sufficient for me from
beginning and in my hopes.
Whatever Allah wish there is neither
strength nor any power except in Allah
the High, the Great.

َ‫حمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱْلعَاَلمِين‬
َ ْ‫اَل‬
All praise be to Allah the Lord of the
worlds.
ِ‫د نَبِيِّه‬
ٍ َّ‫دنَا مُحَم‬
ِ ِّ‫ى سَي‬
ٰ َ‫ى ٱللَّهُ َعل‬
May Allah send blessings upon our master
Muhammad His Prophet
‫سلِيمًا‬
ْ َ‫م ت‬
َ َّ‫وَآلِهِ َوسَل‬
and upon his Household and may He salute
them with thorough salutation.
ُ‫حمْد‬
َ ْ‫اَللَّهُمَّ لَكَ ٱل‬
O Allah, all praise be to You
َ‫ى بِ ِه قَضَاؤُك‬
ٰ ‫ج َر‬
َ ‫َعلَىٰ مَا‬

for Your decree that has been applied

‫ك‬
َ ِ‫خلَصْتَهُمْ لِنَ ْفس‬
ْ َ‫ك ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسْت‬
َ ِ‫فِي اَوْلِيَائ‬
َ‫وَدِينِك‬
to Your vicegerents whom You have
purely selected for Yourself and Your
religion;
َ‫م جَزِيلَ مَا عِنْدَك‬
ْ ُ‫إِ ِذ ٱخْتَرْتَ لَه‬
as You have chosen for them the
abundance of what You have in
possession;
ِ‫مِنَ ٱلنَّعِيمِ ٱْلمُقِيم‬
that is the enduring pleasure
‫ل‬
َ َ‫حال‬
ْ ِ‫ضم‬
ْ ‫ال ٱ‬
َ َ‫ٱلَّذِي الَ زَوَالَ لَهُ و‬
that neither vanishes nor diminishes,

َ‫ن شَرَطْتَ َعلَيْهِمُ ٱلزُّهْد‬

ْ ‫د َا‬
َ ْ‫َبع‬
after You had already stipulated on them
to renounce
ِ‫ٱلدنِيَّة‬
َّ ‫ٱلدنْيَا‬
ُّ ‫ذ ِه‬
ِ ٰ‫ت ه‬
ِ ‫فِي دَرَجَا‬
all the ranks of this lowly world
‫وَزُخْ ُرفِهَا وَ ِزبْرِجِهَا‬
along with all of its embellishments and
ornaments,
َ‫ك ذٰلِك‬
َ َ‫فَشَرَطُوٱ ل‬
and they accepted this stipulation.
ِ‫وَ َع ِلمْتَ مِنْهُمُ ٱلْ َوفَا َء بِه‬
As You knew that they would fulfill this
stipulation,

ْ‫َربْتَهُم‬
َّ ‫فَقَ ِبلْتَهُمْ َوق‬
You accepted and drew them near to You.
َّ‫َدمْتَ لَهُمُ ٱلذِّكْرَ ٱْل َعلِي‬
َّ ‫َوق‬
You thus provided them with sublime
mention
َّ‫وَٱلثَّنَاءَ ٱلْجَلِي‬
and obvious approval,
َ‫وَاَهْبَطْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ َمالَِئكَتَك‬
made Your angels descend to them,
َ‫َرمْتَهُمْ بِوَحْيِك‬
َّ ‫وَك‬
honored them with Your revelations,
‫ك‬
َ ِ‫م ِب ِع ْلم‬
ْ ُ‫دتَه‬
ْ َ‫وَ َرف‬
supported them with Your knowledge,

َ‫ج َعلْتَهُمُ ٱلذَّرِيعَ َة إِلَيْك‬

َ َ‫و‬
and made them the channel to You
َ‫وَٱلْ َوسِيلَ َة إِلَىٰ رِضْوَانِك‬
and the means to winning Your pleasure.
َ‫َنتَك‬
َّ ‫سكَنْتَ ُه ج‬
ْ َ‫ض ا‬
ٌ ْ‫فَ َبع‬
Therefore, You made some of them dwell
in Your Garden
‫خرَجْتَهُ مِنْهَا‬
ْ َ‫ن ا‬
ْ َ‫ى ا‬
ٰ َ‫إِل‬
until You decided to take him out of there.
َ‫ح َملْتَ ُه فِي فُ ْلكِك‬
َ ‫ض‬
ٌ ْ‫َوَبع‬
You bore another one on in Your Ark
ُ‫ن مَ َعه‬
َ َ‫َونَجَّيْتَهُ وَمَنْ آم‬

and saved him and those who believed

with him
ْ َ‫مِنَ ٱلْ َهلَكَ ِة بِر‬
from perdition, out of Your mercy.
‫ال‬
ً ‫خلِي‬
َ ‫ك‬
َ ِ‫ذتَهُ لِنَفْس‬
ْ َ‫ض ٱتَّخ‬
You took another one as Your intimate
friend
َ‫ق فِي ٱآلخِرِين‬
ٍ ْ‫ن صِد‬
َ ‫َوسَاَلَكَ لِسَا‬
ُ‫فَاَجَبْتَه‬
and when he asked You to leave behind
him a truthful mention, You responded to
him
‫ت ذٰلِكَ َعلِيًِّا‬
َ ْ‫ج َعل‬
َ َ‫و‬
and made that (mention) to be eminent.

‫كلِيمًا‬
ْ َ‫شجَ َر ٍة ت‬
َ ْ‫َلمْتَهُ مِن‬
َّ ‫ض ك‬
You spoke to another one from a tree
directly
‫ج َعلْتَ لَهُ مِنْ اَخِيهِ رِدْءًا وَوَزِيرًا‬
َ َ‫و‬
and decided his brother to be his protector
and representative.
ٍ‫دتَهُ مِنْ غَيْ ِر اَب‬
ْ َ‫ض اَ ْول‬
You made another one to be born without
a father,
ِ‫وَآتَيْتَهُ ٱْلبَيِّنَات‬
gave him clear-cut proofs
ِ‫دتَ ُه بِرُوحِ ٱلْقُدُس‬
ْ َّ‫وَاَي‬
and aided him with the Sacred Spirit.

ً‫ُل شَ َرعْتَ لَ ُه شَرِيعَة‬

ٌّ ‫وَك‬
For each of them, You gave a code of law,
‫َونَهَجْتَ َلهُ مِنْهَاجًا‬
decided a certain course,
َ‫َوتَخَيَّرْتَ لَ ُه اَوْصِيَاء‬
and finely chose successors;
ٍ‫مُسْتَحْفِظًا َبعْدَ مُسْتَحْ ِفظ‬
well-trustworthy successors one after
another,
‫ُد ٍة إَِلىٰ مُدَّ ٍة‬
َّ ‫مِنْ م‬
each for a certain period,
َ‫إِقَامَةً لِدِي ِنك‬
in purpose of establishing Your religion

َ‫وَحُجَّةً َعلَىٰ عِبَادِك‬

and acting as arguments against Your
servants,
‫َال يَزُولَ ٱلْحَقُّ عَنْ مَقَرِّ ِه‬
َّ ‫وَلِئ‬
so that the truth should never leave its
position
ِ‫ى اَ ْهلِه‬
ٰ َ‫َوَي ْغلِبَ ٱلْبَاطِلُ َعل‬
and the wrong should never overcome the
people of the truth
ٌ‫ل َاحَد‬
َ ‫ال يَقُو‬
َ َ‫و‬
and so that none should claim, saying,
‫ت إِلَيْنَا َرسُو الً مُنْذِرًا‬
َ ْ‫سل‬
َ ‫ال اَ ْر‬
َ ْ‫لَو‬
“If only You had sent to us a warning
messenger

‫وَاَ َقمْتَ لَنَا َعلَمًا هَادِيًا‬

and established for us a guiding person,
ٰ‫ِل َونَخْ َزى‬
َّ ‫ن نَذ‬
ْ َ‫ل ا‬
ِ ‫ن قَ ْب‬
ْ ِ‫ع آيَاِتكَ م‬
َ ‫فَنَتَّ ِب‬
we should have followed Your signs
before that we met humiliation and
disgrace!”
‫ك‬
َ ِ‫ى حَبِيب‬
ٰ َ‫ت بِٱالَمْ ِر إِل‬
َ ْ‫ن ٱنْ َتهَي‬
ِ َ‫ى ا‬
ٰ َ‫إِل‬
ٍ‫َونَجِيبِكَ مُحَمَّد‬
You then ended the matter with Your
most-beloved and well-select one,
Muhammad,
ِ‫ى ٱللَّهُ َعلَيْهِ وَآِله‬
ٰ َّ‫صَل‬
may Allah bless him and his Household.

ُ‫ن َكمَا ٱنْتَجَبْ َته‬

َ ‫فَكَا‬
He was—as exactly as You have chosen—
ُ‫خلَقْتَه‬
َ ْ‫سَيِّدَ مَن‬
the master of all those whom You created,
ُ‫ن ٱصْطَفَ ْيتَه‬
ِ َ‫وَصَفْ َوةَ م‬
the best of all those whom You selected,
ُ‫ن ٱجْتَبَيْتَه‬
ِ َ‫وَاَفْضَلَ م‬
the most favorite of all those whom You
pointed out,
ُ‫دتَه‬
ْ َ‫وَاَكْرَمَ مَنِ ٱعْ َتم‬
and the noblest of all those on whom You
decided.
َ‫ى اَنْبِيَائِك‬
ٰ ‫َدمْتَهُ عَ َل‬
َّ ‫ق‬

So, You preferred him to Your prophets,

َ‫َوَبعَثْتَ ُه إِلَىٰ ٱلثَّ َقلَيْنِ مِنْ عِبَادِك‬
sent him to the two dependents (men and
jinn) from Your servants,
‫ك‬
َ َ‫وَاَوْطَا تَهُ مَشَا ِرقَكَ وَ َمغَا ِرب‬
enabled him to tread on the east and the
west of Your lands,
َ‫َوسَخَّرْتَ لَ ُه ٱلْبُرَاق‬
made subservient to him the Buraq (the
celestial sumpter),
‫ك‬
َ ِ‫سمَائ‬
َ ٰ‫ت بِرُوْحِ ِه إِلَى‬
َ ْ‫وَعَرَج‬
raised his soul to Your heavens,
‫ن‬
َ ‫وَاَوْدَعْتَهُ عِلْمَ مَا كَا‬

and entrusted with him the knowledge of

whatever passed
َ‫خلْقِك‬
َ ‫ى ٱنْقِضَا ِء‬
ٰ َ‫َومَا يَكُونُ إِل‬
and whatever shall come to pass up to the
extinction of Your creatures.
ِ‫ُم نَصَ ْرتَهُ بِٱلرُّعْب‬
َّ ‫ث‬
You then granted him victory by means of
awe & majesty
َ‫وَحَفَفْتَ ُه بِجَبْ َرئِيلَ وَمِيكَائِيل‬
ordered (Archangels) Gabriel and Michael
َ‫َومِينَ مِنْ َمالَِئكَتِك‬
ِّ ‫وَٱْلمُس‬
as well as the marked angels to surround
him,
‫ن كُلِّ ِه‬
ِ ‫ن تُظْهِرَ دِينَهُ َعلَىٰ ٱلدِّي‬
ْ َ‫دتَ ُه ا‬
ْ َ‫وَوَع‬

and promised him to make his faith prevail

all other faiths
َ‫وَلَ ْو كَ ِرهَ ٱْلمُشْرِكُون‬
however much the polytheists may be
averse.
ْ ِ‫د اَنْ بَوَّأْتَ ُه ُمبَوَّاَ صِدْقٍ م‬
‫ن اَ ْهلِ ِه‬ َ ْ‫ك َبع‬
َ ِ‫وَذٰل‬
You did all that after You had settled him
in an honest position among his people,
ٍ‫م اَ َّولَ بَيْت‬
ْ ُ‫ج َعلْتَ لَهُ وَلَه‬
َ َ‫و‬
made for him and them the first house
َ‫َكة‬
َّ ‫وُضِعَ لِلنَّاسِ لَلَّذي ِبب‬
ever located for the people; that is the
house in Bakkah,
َ‫مُبَارَكًا وَهُدىًٰ ِل ْلعَالَمين‬

blessed and guidance for the worlds.

ٌ‫فِيهِ آيَاتٌ بَيِّنَات‬
In it, there are clear-cut proofs.
َ‫مَقَا ُم إِبْرَاهِيم‬
It is the standing-place of Abraham,
‫ن آمِنًا‬
َ ‫خلَ ُه كَا‬
َ َ‫ن د‬
ْ َ‫َوم‬
and whoever enters it will be secured.
‫م‬
ُ ُ‫ٱللهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنْك‬
َّ ‫د‬ُ ‫ت «إِنَّمَا يُرِي‬
َ ْ‫َو ُقل‬
َ‫جس‬
ْ ِّ‫ٱلر‬
You also said, “Allah only desires to keep
away the uncleanness from you,
ِ‫اَهْلَ ٱلْ َبيْت‬
O people of the House,

».‫م تَطْهِيرًا‬
ْ ُ‫َويُطَهِّرَك‬
and to purify you a thorough purifying.”
‫د‬
ٍ َّ‫ت اَجْرَ مُحَم‬
َ ْ‫ج َعل‬
َ ‫ُم‬
َّ ‫ث‬
You then decided the reward of
Muhammad,
ِ‫صلَوَاتُكَ َعلَيْهِ وَآلِه‬
َ
Your blessings be upon him and his
Household,
َ‫َدتَهُمْ فِي كِتَابِك‬
َّ ‫مَو‬
to be the love for them; as in Your Book
‫ت « ُقلْ الَ اَسْاَلُكُمْ َعلَيْ ِه اَجْرًا‬
َ ْ‫فَ ُقل‬
You said, “Say: I do not ask of you any
reward for it

».ٰ‫َدةَ فِي ٱلْقُ ْربَى‬

َّ ‫إِالَّ ٱْلمَو‬
but love for my near relatives.”
».ْ‫ن اَجْ ٍر فَ ُهوَ لَكُم‬
ْ ِ‫ت «مَا سَاَلْتُكُمْ م‬
You also said, “Whatever reward I have
asked of you, that is only for yourselves.”
ٍ‫جر‬
ْ َ‫ن ا‬
ْ ِ‫ت «مَا اَسْاَلُكُمْ َعلَيْهِ م‬
You also said, “I do not ask you aught in
return
».ً‫سبِيال‬
َ ِ‫ذ إِلَىٰ رَبِّه‬
َ ِ‫ن يَتَّخ‬
ْ َ‫إِالَّ مَنْ شَا َء ا‬
except that he who wills, may take the way
to his Lord.”
َ‫ل ِإلَيْك‬
َ ‫فَكَانُوٱ هُمُ ٱلسَّبِي‬
They (i.e. the Prophet’s Household) have
therefore been the way to You

َ‫ك إِلَىٰ رِضْوَانِك‬

َ َ‫سل‬
ْ َ‫وَٱْلم‬
and the course to Your pleasure.
ُ‫ت اَيَّامُه‬
ْ َ‫َفلَمَّا ٱنْقَض‬
When his (i.e. the Prophet) days passed,
ٍ‫ن اَبِي طَالِب‬
َ ْ‫ِي ب‬
َّ ‫اَقَامَ وَلِيَّهُ َعل‬
he appointed as successor his vicegerent
Àli the son of Abu-Talib,
‫صلَوَاتُكَ َعلَيْ ِهمَا وَآلِ ِهمَا هَادِيًا‬
َ
Your blessings be upon both of them and
their Household,
َ‫ن هُ َو ٱْلمُنْذِر‬
َ ‫إِ ْذ كَا‬
because he (the Prophet) was the warner
ٍ‫ُل قَوْ ٍم هَاد‬
ِّ ‫وَِلك‬

and Àli was the guide for every people.

:ُ‫ل وَٱْلمَ َل ُا َامَامَه‬
َ ‫فَقَا‬
So, he (the Prophet) said in the presence of
the people,
ُ‫اله‬
َ ْ‫ن كُنْتُ مَو‬
ْ َ‫”م‬
“As for each one who has taken me as his
master,
ُ‫اله‬
َ ْ‫َف َعلِيٌّ مَو‬
Àli is now his master.
‫اَللَّهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَاالَ ُه‬
O Allah, guard any one who is loyal to
Àli,
‫وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَا ُه‬

be the enemy of any one who antagonizes

him,
ُ‫وَٱنْصُ ْر مَنْ نَصَ َره‬
support any one who supports him,
“.ُ‫ن خَذَلَه‬
ْ ‫ذلْ َم‬
ُ ْ‫وَٱخ‬
and disappoint any one who disappoints
him.”
“.ُ‫ِي َامِي ُره‬
ٌّ ‫ت اَنَا نَبِيَّ ُه َف َعل‬
ُ ْ‫ن كُن‬
ْ َ‫ ”م‬:َ‫َوقَال‬
He also said, “As for any one who has
considered me as his Prophet, Àli is now
his commander.”
‫حدَ ٍة‬
ِ ‫ ”َانَا وَ َعلِيٌّ مِنْ شَجَ َرةٍ وَا‬:َ‫َوقَال‬
He also said, “Àli and I are of the same
tree,

“.ٰ‫شجَ ٍر شَتَّى‬
َ ْ‫َوسَائِرُ ٱلنَّاسِ مِن‬
while all the other peoples are from
various trees.”
‫ى‬
ٰ َ‫َل هَارُونَ مِنْ مُوس‬
َّ ‫وَاَحَلَّهُ مَح‬
He endued him (i.e. Àli) with the position
that (Prophet) Aaron had with regard to
(Prophet) Moses,
ْ‫ ”َانْتَ مِنِّي ِبمَنْزِلَ ِة هَارُونَ مِن‬:ُ‫فَقَالَ لَه‬
ٰ‫مُوسَى‬
saying, “Your position to me is as same as
Aaron’s position to Moses (in every thing)
“.‫ِي َبعْدِي‬
َّ ‫ِال اَنَّهُ الَ نَب‬
َّ ‫إ‬
except that there shall be no prophet after
me.”

َ‫دةَ ِنسَاءِ ٱْلعَاَلمِين‬

َ ِّ‫وَزَوَّجَ ُه ٱْبنَتَ ُه سَي‬
He gave him in marriage his daughter the
doyenne of the women of the worlds.
ُ‫َل َله‬
َّ ‫دهِ مَا ح‬
ِ ِ‫وَاَحَلَّ لَهُ مِنْ مَسْج‬
He allowed him (alone) to do whatever he
himself is allowed to do in his Mosque.
ُ‫ِال بَابَه‬
َّ ‫ب إ‬
َ ‫َوسَدَّ ٱالَبْوَا‬
He closed all the doors (to the Mosque)
except his (i.e. Àli) door.
ُ‫كمَتَه‬
ْ ِ‫ُم اَوْدَعَهُ ِع ْلمَهُ وَح‬
َّ ‫ث‬
He then entrusted with him his knowledge
and his wisdom,
ِ‫ ”اَنَا مَدِينَةُ ٱْلعِ ْلم‬:َ‫فَقَال‬
saying, “I am the city of knowledge,

‫ِي بَابُهَا‬
ٌّ ‫وَ َعل‬
and Àli is its door.
َ‫ك َمة‬
ْ ِ‫ن اَرَا َد ٱْلمَدِينَةَ وَٱلْح‬
ْ َ‫َفم‬
So, whoever wants this city and wisdom,
“.‫ن بَابِهَا‬
ْ ‫َفلْيَا تِهَا ِم‬
must come to it from its door.”
‫ت اَخِي َووَصِيِّي وَوَا ِرثِي‬
َ ْ‫ ”َان‬:َ‫ُم قَال‬
َّ ‫ث‬
He then said (to Àli), “You are my
brother, successor, and inheritor.
‫حمِي‬
ْ َ‫حمُكَ مِنْ ل‬
ْ َ‫ل‬
Your flesh is part of my flesh,
‫ن َدمِي‬
ْ ِ‫وَ َدمُكَ م‬
your blood is part of my blood,

‫س ْلمِي‬
ِ َ‫س ْلمُك‬
ِ ‫َو‬
your peace is my peace,
‫ك حَ ْربِي‬
َ ُ‫وَحَ ْرب‬
your war is my war,
َ‫حمَكَ وَدَ َمك‬
ْ َ‫وَٱإلِيـمَانُ مُخَاِلطٌ ل‬
and faith is mixed with your flesh and
blood
‫حمِي وَ َدمِي‬
ْ َ‫َكمَا خَاَلطَ ل‬
as same as it is mixed with my flesh and
blood.
‫خلِيفَتِي‬
َ ‫ض‬
ِ ‫ى الْحَ ْو‬
ٰ َ‫ت غَدًا َعل‬
َ ْ‫وَاَن‬
On the morrow, you shall be my
vicegerent on the (Divine) Pond.

‫ت تَقْضِي َديْنِي‬
َ ْ‫وَاَن‬
You also settle my debts
‫َوتُنْجِزُ عِدَاتِي‬
and fulfill my commitments.
ٍ‫َوشِيعَتُكَ َعلَىٰ مَنَابِرَ مِنْ نُور‬
Your Shiàh (i.e. adherents) shall be on
pulpits of light,
ِ‫م حَ ْولِي فِي ٱلْجَنَّة‬
ْ ُ‫مُبْيَضَّةً وُجُوهُه‬
white-faced, around me in Paradise.
‫م جِيرَانِي‬
ْ ُ‫وَه‬
They are my neighbors (therein).
ُّ‫ت يَا َعلِي‬
َ ْ‫ال اَن‬
َ ْ‫وَلَو‬
Were it not for you Àli,

“.‫ن َبعْدِي‬
َ ‫ف ٱْلمُ ْؤمِنُو‬
ِ ‫م ُيعْ َر‬
ْ َ‫ل‬
true believers would not be recognized
after me.”
ِ‫الل‬
َ ‫ٱلض‬
َّ َ‫ن َبعْدَ ُه هُدىٰ مِن‬
َ ‫وَكَا‬
Hence, he (i.e. Àli), after the Prophet, was
true guidance against straying off,
ٰ‫ن ٱْل َعمَى‬
َ ِ‫َونُورًا م‬
light against blindness,
َ‫ٱللهِ ٱْلمَتِين‬
َّ ‫ل‬َ ْ‫وَحَب‬
the firmest rope of Allah,
َ‫وَصِرَاطَهُ ٱْلمُسْتَقِيم‬
and His straight path.
ٍ‫ق بِقَرَابَ ٍة فِي رَحِم‬
ُ َ‫الَ يُسْب‬

None would precede him in blood relation

(with the Prophet)
‫ن‬
ٍ ‫ال بِسَابِقَ ٍة فِي دِي‬
َ َ‫و‬
or any priority in a religious affair,
‫ق فِي مَنْقَبَةٍ مِنْ مَنَاقِبِ ِه‬
ُ َ‫وَالَ ُيلْح‬
and none would ever match him in any
item of virtue.
ِ‫ٱلرسُول‬
َّ َ‫يَحْذُو حَذْو‬
He patterned after the Messenger,
‫ى ٱللَّهُ َعلَيْ ِهمَا وَآلِ ِهمَا‬
ٰ َّ‫صَل‬
may Allah’s blessings be upon both of
them and their Household.
ِ‫َويُقَاتِلُ َعلَىٰ ٱلتَّا وِيل‬

He fought for the sake of true

interpretation (of the Qur'an).
‫م‬
ٍ ِ‫الئ‬
َ ُ‫ذهُ فِي ٱللَّهِ لَ ْومَة‬
ُ ُ‫ال تَأْخ‬
َ َ‫و‬
The blame of any blamer would never stop
him from doing anything for the sake of
Allah.
ِ‫قَدْ َوتَ َر فِي ِه صَنَادِيدَ ٱْلعَرَب‬
He thus exterminated the villains of the
Arabs,
ْ‫ل اَبْطَالَهُم‬
َ َ‫َوقَت‬
killed their heroes,
ْ‫ش ذُؤْبَانَهُم‬
َ َ‫َونَاو‬
and eradicated their ferocious fighters.
‫م اَحْقَادًا‬
ْ ُ‫ع ُقلُوبَه‬
َ َ‫فَاَوْد‬

He therefore filled in their hearts with

malice
َّ‫بَدْرِيَّةً وَخَيْبَرِيَّةً وَحُ َنيْنِيَّةً وَغَيْرَهُن‬
from the battles of Badr, Khaybar, and
°unayn as well as others.
ِ‫فَاَضَبَّتْ َعلَىٰ عَدَا َوتِه‬
Therefore, they clang inseparably to
opposing him
‫ذتِ ِه‬
َ َ‫وَاَكَبَّتْ َعلَىٰ مُنَاب‬
and attached upon dissenting him
‫ن‬
َ ‫ى قَتَلَ ٱلنَّاكِثِينَ وَٱلْقَاسِطِي‬
ٰ َّ‫حَت‬
َ‫وَٱْلمَا ِرقِين‬
until he had to kill the preachers, the
unjust, and the apostates.

ُ‫ى نَحْبَه‬
ٰ َ‫وَلَمَّا قَض‬
When he passed away
‫ى‬
ٰ َ‫ع َاشْق‬
ُ ‫ن يَتْ َب‬
َ ‫ى ٱآلخِرِي‬
ٰ ‫َوقَ َتلَ ُه اَشْ َق‬
َ‫ٱالَوَّلِين‬
and he was killed by the most miserable of
all of the late generations who will be
attached to the most miserable of the past
generations,
ِ‫ل ٱللَّه‬
ِ ‫ل اَمْرُ َرسُو‬
ْ َ‫م ُيمْتَث‬
ْ َ‫ل‬
the decree of Allah’s Messenger,
ٰ َّ‫صَل‬
may Allah bless him and his Household,
َ‫د ٱلْهَادِين‬
َ ْ‫ن َبع‬
َ ‫فِي ٱلْهَادِي‬

about the leadership of the successive

guiding ones was not carried out;
ِ‫ِرةٌ َعلَىٰ َمقْتِه‬
َّ ‫وَٱالُمَّةُ مُص‬
rather, the people insisted on detesting him
ِ‫حمِه‬
ِ َ‫ى قَطِيعَةِ ر‬
ٰ َ‫مُجْ َت ِمعَةٌ َعل‬
and agreed unanimously on rupturing their
relations with him
‫وَإِقْصَاءِ ُولْدِ ِه‬
and moving away his descendants (from
leadership),
ْ‫َق فِيهِم‬
ِّ ‫إِالَّ ٱلْ َقلِيلَ مِمَّنْ َوفَىٰ لِرِعَايَةِ ٱْلح‬
except for a few ones who fulfilled the
duty of observing their rights.
َ‫فَقُتِلَ مَنْ قُتِل‬

Many (of Àli’s descendants) were

therefore slain,
َ‫ن سُبِي‬
ْ َ‫َوسُبِيَ م‬
many others were taken as captives,
َ‫ن ا قْصِي‬
ْ َ‫وَا قْصِيَ م‬
and many others were banished.
ْ‫وَجَ َرىٰ ٱلْقَضَاءُ لَهُم‬
Decrees were thus applied to them
ِ‫ِبمَا يُرْجَىٰ لَ ُه حُسْنُ ٱْلمَثُوَبة‬
in a form expected to grant them excellent
reward for that.
ِ‫ت ٱالَ ْرضُ لِلَّه‬
ِ َ‫إِ ْذ كَان‬
Verily, the earth is Allah’s;

ِ‫ن يَشَاءُ مِنْ عِبَا ِده‬

ْ َ‫يُو ِرثُهَا م‬
He gives it in inheritance to whomever of
His servants that He wishes;
َ‫وَٱْلعَاقِبَةُ ِل ْلمُتَّقِين‬
and the end result shall be for the pious.
‫َوسُبْحَانَ رَبِّنَا‬
All glory be to our Lord.
ًَّ‫ن كَانَ وَ ْعدُ رَبِّنَا َلمَ ْفعُوال‬
ْ ِ‫إ‬
Most certainly, the promise of our Lord
shall come to pass.
‫ف ٱللَّهُ وَعْدَ ُه‬
َ ‫خ ِل‬
ْ ُ‫ن ي‬
ْ َ‫وَل‬
Allah shall never fail to fulfill His
promise.

ُ‫وَهُوَ ٱْلعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيم‬

He is the Almighty, the All-wise.
ٍّ‫ل بَيْتِ مُحَمَّد وَ َعلِي‬
ِ ‫ن اَ ْه‬
ْ ِ‫َف َعلَىٰ ٱالَطَائِبِ م‬
For the immaculate ones from the
household of Muhammad and Àli,
‫ى ٱللَّهُ َعلَيْ ِهمَا وَآلِ ِهمَا‬
ٰ َّ‫صَل‬
may Allah bless both of them and their
household,
َ‫َفلْيَبْكِ ٱلْبَاكُون‬
let weepers weep.
َ‫م َفلْيَنْدُبِ ٱلنَّا ِدبُون‬
ْ ُ‫وَإِيَّاه‬
For them too, let lamenters lament.
ُ‫ٱلدمُوع‬
ُّ ِ‫م َفلْتَذْ ِرف‬
ْ ِ‫وَِلمِ ْثلِه‬

For the like of them, let tears be shed,

َ‫خ ٱلصَّارِخُون‬
ِ ‫وَلْيَصْ ُر‬
screamers scream,
َ‫ِج ٱلضَّاجُّون‬
َّ ‫َويَض‬
yellers yell,
َ‫َوَيعِجَّ ٱْلعَاجُّوَن‬
and wailers wail.
ُ‫ن اَيْنَ ٱلْحُسَ ْين‬
ُ َ‫اَيْنَ ٱلْحَس‬
Where is al-Hasan? Where is al-Husayn?
ِ‫ن َابْنَا ُء ٱلْحُسَ ْين‬
َ ْ‫اَي‬
Where are the sons of al-Husayn;
ٍ‫ح َبعْدَ صَاِلح‬
ٌ ‫صَاِل‬
a virtuous one after another,

ٍ‫د صَادِق‬
َ ْ‫ق َبع‬
ٌ ِ‫وَصَاد‬
and a veracious one after another?
ِ‫ل َبعْدَ ٱلسَّبِيل‬
ُ ‫اَيْنَ ٱلسَّبِي‬
Where is the course (to Allah) after a
course?
ِ‫ن ٱلْخِيَ َر ُة بَ ْعدَ ٱلْخِيَ َرة‬
َ ْ‫اَي‬
Where is the best after the best?
ُ‫س ٱلطَّالِعَة‬
ُ ‫ٱلشمُو‬
ُّ َ‫اَيْن‬
Where are the rising suns?
ُ‫اَيْنَ ٱالَ ْقمَارُ ٱْلمُنِي َرة‬
Where are the shining moons?
‫جمُ ٱلزَّاهِرَ ُة‬
ُ ْ‫اَيْنَ ٱالَن‬
Where are the brilliant stars?

ِ‫ن اَ ْعالَمُ ٱلدِّين‬

َ ْ‫اَي‬
Where are the authorities of the religion
ِ‫َوقَوَاعِدُ ٱْل ِعلْم‬
and the foundations of knowledge?
ِ‫ن بَقِيَّ ُة ٱللَّه‬
َ ْ‫اَي‬
Where is the left by Allah
‫خلُو مِنَ ٱْلعِ ْت َرةِ ٱلْهَادِي ِة‬
ْ َ‫ٱلَّتِي الَ ت‬
that is always represented by individuals
from the guiding (Prophetic) offspring?
ِ‫ٱلظ َلمَة‬
َّ ِ‫ع دَابِر‬
ِ‫ط‬ْ َ‫َد لِق‬
ُّ ‫اَينَ ٱْل ُمع‬
Where is the one prepared for cutting off
the roots of the wrongdoers?
ِ‫َايْنَ ٱْلمُنْتَظَرُ إلِقَامَةِ ٱالَمْتِ وَٱلعِ َوج‬

Where is the one awaited for mending

every unevenness and crookedness?
ِ‫َايْنَ ٱْلمُرْتَجىٰ إلِزَاَلةِ ٱلْجَوْرِ وَٱلْعُدْوَان‬
Where is the one hoped for removing
oppression and aggression?
ِ‫خرُ لِتَجْدِيدِ ٱلْفَرَائِضِ وَٱلسُّ َنن‬
َ َّ‫اَيْنَ ٱْلمُد‬
Where is the one spared for refreshing the
duties and traditions?
ِ‫َايْنَ ٱْلمُتَخَيَّرُ إلِعَا َدةِ ٱْلمِلَّةِ وَٱلشَّرِيعَة‬
Where is the one chosen for restoring the
faith and the code of law?
ِ‫َملُ إلِحْيَاءِ ٱلْكِتَابِ وَحُدُو ِده‬
َّ ‫َايْنَ ٱْلمُؤ‬
Where is the one expected to restore to life
the Book and its provisions?

ِ‫اَيْنَ مُحْيِي َمعَالِمِ ٱلدِّينِ وَاَ ْهلِه‬

Where is the reviver of the elements of the
religion and its people?
َ‫م شَوْكَةِ ٱْل ُمعْتَدِين‬
ُ ِ‫ن قَاص‬
َ ْ‫اَي‬
Where is the one shattering the arms of the
aggressors?
ِ‫ن هَادِمُ َابْنِيَةِ ٱلشِّرْكِ وَٱلنِّفَاق‬
َ ْ‫اَي‬
Where is the one demolishing the edifices
of polytheism and hypocrisy?
ِ‫د َاهْلِ ٱلْفُسُوق‬
ُ ‫اَيْنَ مُبِي‬
Where is the one annihilating the people of
wickedness,
ِ‫َٱلطغْيَان‬
ُّ ‫وَٱْلعِصْيَانِ و‬
disobedience, and tyranny?

ِ‫د فُرُوعِ ٱلْغَيِّ وَٱلشِّقَاق‬

ُ ِ‫ن حَاص‬
َ ْ‫اَي‬
Where is the one uprooting the branches of
error and insurgence?
ِ‫ٱلزْيغِ وَٱالَهْوَاء‬
َّ ‫س آثَا ِر‬
ُ ‫ن طَا ِم‬
َ ْ‫اَي‬
Where is the one effacing the traces of
evasiveness and personal desires?
ِ‫ن قَا ِطعُ حَبَائِلِ ٱلْكِذْبِ وَٱل ِٱفْتِرَاء‬
َ ْ‫اَي‬
Where is the one severing the ropes of
fabrication and forgery?
‫د ٱْلعُتَاةِ وَٱْلمَرَدَ ِة‬
ُ ‫اَيْنَ مُبِي‬
Where is the one terminating the insolent
defiant and persistent rebels?

‫ل‬
ِ ‫ضلِي‬
ْ َّ‫ل اَهْلِ ٱْلعِنَادِ وَٱلت‬
ُ ِ‫اَيْنَ مُسْتَا ص‬
ِ‫وَٱإلِلْحَاد‬
Where is the one tearing up the people of
obstinacy, misleading, and atheism?
ِ‫ِز ٱالَوْلِيَاءِ َومُذِلُّ ٱالَعْدَاء‬
ُّ ‫اَيْنَ ُمع‬
Where is the one ennobling the saints and
humiliating the enemies?
ٰ‫ك ِلمَةِ َعلَىٰ ٱلتَّقْوَى‬
َ ْ‫ع ٱل‬
ُ ِ‫ن جَام‬
َ ْ‫اَي‬
Where is the one bringing together (all
scattered) words to piety?
ٰ‫ب ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّذِي ِمنْ ُه يُ ْؤتَى‬
ُ ‫ن بَا‬
َ ْ‫اَي‬
Where is the door of Allah from which
Allah is come?

ُ‫َايْنَ وَجْ ُه ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّذِي إَِليْ ِه يَتَوَجَّهُ ٱالَوْلِيَاء‬

Where is the Face of Allah towards whom
the saints turn their faces.
ِ‫ل بَيْنَ ٱالَ ْرضِ وَٱلسَّمَاء‬
ُ ِ‫اَيْنَ ٱلسَّبَبُ ٱْلمُتَّص‬
Where is the means of access that is
connectedly extended between the earth
and the heavens.
ِ‫ب يَوْمِ ٱلْ َف ْتح‬
ُ ِ‫ن صَاح‬
َ ْ‫اَي‬
Where is the patron of the Conquest Day
ٰ‫دى‬
َ ُ‫َونَاشِ ُر رَاَيةِ ٱلْه‬
and the stretcher of the pennon of true
guidance?
‫الحِ وَٱلرِّضَا‬
َ ‫ٱلص‬
َّ ‫ل‬
ِ ْ‫شم‬
َ ‫ف‬
ُ ِّ‫اَيْنَ مُؤَل‬

Where is the one reunifying the dispersed

parts of uprightness and contentment?
‫ل ٱالَنْبِيَاءِ وَاَبْنَا ِء‬
ِ ‫ب بِذُحُو‬
ُ ِ‫ن ٱلطَّال‬
َ ْ‫اَي‬
ِ‫ٱالَنْبِيَاء‬
Where is the one demanding with the
vengeance of the Prophets and their sons?
َ‫ل بِكَ ْرَبالَء‬
ِ ‫ب بِدَمِ ٱلْ َمقْتُو‬
ُ ِ‫ن ٱلطَّال‬
َ ْ‫اَي‬
Where is the one demanding with the
blood of the one slain in Karbala'?
‫دىٰ َعلَيْ ِه‬
َ َ‫اَيْنَ ٱْلمَنْصُورُ َعلَىٰ مَنِ ٱعْت‬
ٰ‫وَٱفْتَ َرى‬
Where is the one granted aid against
whomever transgresses and forges lies
against him?

‫ب إِذَا َدعَا‬
ُ ‫ضطَرُّ ٱلَّذِي ُيجَا‬
ْ ُ‫ن ٱْلم‬
َ ْ‫اَي‬
Where is the distressed who is answered
when he prays?
ٰ‫َٱلتقْ َوى‬
َّ ‫ِر و‬
ِّ ‫ق ذُوُ ٱلْب‬
ِ ِ‫الئ‬
َ‫خ‬َ ْ‫ن صَدْ ُر ٱل‬
َ ْ‫اَي‬
Where is the forepart of the creatures who
enjoys dutifulness and piety?
ٰ‫ن ٱلنَّبِيِّ ٱْل ُمصْطَ َفى‬
ُ ْ‫ن ٱب‬
َ ْ‫اَي‬
Where is the son of the well-chosen
Prophet,
ٰ‫ضى‬
َ َ‫وَٱبْنُ َعلِيٍّ ٱْلمُ ْرت‬
the son of Àli the well-pleased,
ِ‫ن خَدِيـجَ َة ٱْلغَرَّاء‬
ُ ْ‫وَٱب‬
the son of Khadijah the glittery lady,

ٰ‫ن فَاطِ َمةَ ٱلْكُبْ َرى‬

ُ ْ‫وَٱب‬
and the son of Fatimah the grand lady?
‫ت وَا مِّي‬
َ ْ‫بِاَبِي اَن‬
May my father and mother be ransoms for
you.
ٰ‫ح َمى‬
ِ ْ‫َونَفْسِي لَكَ ٱلْ ِوقَاءُ وَٱل‬
May my soul be protection and shield for
you.
َ‫َربِين‬
َّ ‫يَا بْنَ ٱلسَّا َدةِ ٱْلمُق‬
O son of the chiefs drawn near!
َ‫يَا بْنَ ٱلنُّجَبَاءِ ٱالَكْ َرمِين‬
O son of the most honorable, outstanding
ones!

َ‫يَا بْنَ ٱلْهُدَاةِ ٱْلمَهْدِيِّين‬

O son of the guiding and well-guided
ones!
َ‫يَا بْنَ ٱلْخِيَ َرةِ ٱْلمُهَذَّبِين‬
O son of the ever-best refined ones!
َ‫يَا بْنَ ٱْلغَطَا ِرفَةِ ٱالَنْجَبِين‬
O son of the all-liberal and all-select ones!
َ‫يَا بْنَ ٱالَطَائِبِ ٱْلمُطَهَّرِين‬
O son of the immaculate and purified
ones!
َ‫يَا بْنَ ٱلْخَضَا ِرمَةِ ٱلْمُنْتَجَبِين‬
O son of the ample-giving, finely elected
ones!

َ‫يَا بْنَ ٱلْ َقمَا ِقمَةِ ٱالَكْ َرمِين‬

O son of the bounteous, most honorable
ones!
ِ‫يَا بْنَ ٱلْبُدُورِ ٱْلمُنِيرَة‬
O son of light-giving full moons!
ِ‫يَا بْنَ ٱلسُّ ُرجِ ٱْلمُضِيئَة‬
O son of beaming lanterns!
ِ‫يَا بْنَ ٱلشُّهُبِ ٱلثَّاقِبَة‬
O son of piercing flames!
ِ‫يَا بْنَ ٱالَنْجُمِ ٱلزَّاهِ َرة‬
O son of luminous stars!
ِ‫ضحَة‬
ِ ‫ٱلسبُلِ ٱلْوَا‬
ُّ َ‫يَا بْن‬
O son of patent ways!

ِ‫حة‬
َ ِ‫ٱلالئ‬
َّ ‫يَا بْنَ ٱالَ ْعالَ ِم‬
O son of obvious signs!
ِ‫يَا بْنَ ٱْلعُلُومِ ٱلْكَا ِملَة‬
O son of perfect knowledge!
ِ‫ٱلسنَنِ ٱْلمَشْهُو َرة‬
ُّ َ‫يَا بْن‬
O son of renowned traditions!
ِ‫يَا بْنَ ٱْل َمعَالِمِ ٱْلمَا ثُورَة‬
O son of well-established features!
ِ‫يَا بْنَ ٱْلمُ ْعجِزَاتِ ٱْلمَوْجُو َدة‬
O son of well-known miracles!
ِ‫الئِلِ ٱْلمَشْهُو َدة‬
َ َّ‫يَا بْنَ ٱلد‬
O son of widely witnessed demonstrations!

ِ‫يَا بْنَ ٱلصِّرَاطِ ٱْلمُسْتَقِيم‬

O son of the straight path!
ِ‫يَا بْنَ ٱلنَّ َبإِ ٱْلعَظِيم‬
O son of the great news!
ِ‫ى ٱللَّه‬
ٰ َ‫يَا بْنَ مَنْ هُ َو فِي ا مِّ ٱلْكِتَابِ لَد‬
ٌ‫ِي حَكِيم‬
ٌّ ‫َعل‬
O son of him who is elevated and full of
wisdom in the original of the Book with
Allah.
ِ‫يَا بْنَ ٱآليَاتِ وَٱلْبَيِّنَات‬
O son of signs and manifestations!
ِ‫ل ٱلظَّاهِرَات‬
ِ ِ‫الئ‬
َ َّ‫يَا بْنَ ٱلد‬
O son of apparent points of evidence!

ِ‫يَا بْنَ ٱلْبَرَاهِينِ ٱلْوَاضِحَاتِ ٱلْبَاهِرَات‬

O son of clear-cut and dazzling
substantiations!
ِ‫ججِ ٱلْبَاِلغَات‬
َ ُ‫يَا بْنَ ٱلْح‬
O son of conclusive arguments!
ِ‫ٱلنعَمِ ٱلسَّاِبغَات‬
ِّ َ‫يَا بْن‬
O son of superabundant bounties!
ِ‫كمَات‬
َ ْ‫ن طـٰ ٰه وَٱْلمُح‬
َ ْ‫يَا ب‬
O son of Taha and the decisive (verses)!
ِ‫يَا بْنَ يـٰس وَٱلذَّا ِريَات‬
O son of Yasin and al-Dhariyat (the
winnowing winds)!
ِ‫يَا بْنَ ٱلطُّورِ وَٱْلعَا ِديَات‬

O son of al-Tur (the Mount of Revelation)

and al-Àdiyat (the running steeds)!
ٰ‫يَا بْنَ مَنْ َدنَا فَتَدَلَّى‬
O son of him who drew near and then
bowed;
‫ى‬
ٰ َ‫ن اَ ْو اَ ْدن‬
ِ ْ‫ب قَ ْوسَي‬
َ ‫ن قَا‬
َ ‫فَكَا‬
he therefore was the measure of two bows
or closer still;
ٰ‫ُدنُوًِّا وَٱقْتِرَابًا ِمنَ ٱْلعَلِيِّ ٱالَ ْع َلى‬
nearness and closeness to the Most High
and Most Exalted (Lord)!
ٰ‫ت بِكَ ٱلنَّ َوى‬
ْ َّ‫ستَقَر‬
ْ ‫نٱ‬
َ ْ‫شعْرِي اَي‬
ِ ‫ت‬
َ ْ‫لَي‬
How I wonder! Where has farness taken
you?

ٰ‫ك َا ْو ثَ َرى‬
َ ُّ‫ض تُقِل‬
ٍ ‫ل اَيُّ اَ ْر‬
ْ َ‫ب‬
Or which land or soil is carrying you?
‫ى‬
ٰ َ‫ى اَوْ غَيْرِهَا اَمْ ذِي طُو‬
ٰ ‫اَبِرَضْ َو‬
Is it on (Mount) Radhwa or elsewhere on
(Mount) Dhi-Tuwa?
ٰ‫ال تُ َرى‬
َ َ‫خلْقَ و‬
َ ‫ى ٱْل‬
ٰ ‫َي اَنْ اَ َر‬
َّ ‫عَزِيزٌ َعل‬
It is hard for me that I can see all creatures
but I can neither see you
ٰ‫ال نَجْ َوى‬
َ َ‫ك حَسِيسًا و‬
َ ‫ع َل‬
ُ ‫س َم‬
ْ َ‫ال ا‬
َ َ‫و‬
nor can I hear any whisper or confidential
talk from you!
ٰ‫ك دُونِيَ ٱلْ َبلْ َوى‬
َ ِ‫َي اَنْ تُحِيطَ ب‬
It is hard for me that ordeals encompass
you, not me

ٰ‫ال شَكْ َوى‬

َ َ‫ال يَنَالُكَ مِنِّي ضَجِيجٌ و‬
َ َ‫و‬
and neither cry nor complaint from me can
rally round you!
‫خلُ مِنَّا‬
ْ َ‫م ي‬
ْ َ‫بِنَفْسِي اَنْتَ مِنْ ُمغَيَّبٍ ل‬
May my soul be ransom for you; for
although you are hidden from us, you have
never forsaken us.
‫بِنَفْسِي اَنْتَ مِنْ نَا ِزحٍ مَا نَ َزحَ عَنَّا‬
May my soul be ransom for you; for
although you are away, you have never
been away from us.
ٰ‫َنى‬
َّ ‫ق يَ َتم‬
ٍ ِ‫ت ُامْنِيَّةُشَائ‬
َ ْ‫بِنَفْسِي اَن‬
May my soul be ransom for you; for you
are the wish of an eager

‫مِنْ مُ ْؤمِنٍ َومُ ْؤمِنَ ٍة ذَكَرَا فَحَنَّا‬

believing man or woman who mention you
and miss you.
ٰ‫بِنَفْسِي اَنْتَ مِنْ عَقِيدِ عِزٍّ الَ ُيسَامَى‬
are an unmatched pioneer of dignity.
ٰ‫بِنَفْسِي اَنْتَ مِنْ اَثِيلِ مَجْدٍ الَ يُجَا َرى‬
are an unrivaled origin of glory.
ٰ‫م الَ ُتضَا َهى‬
ٍ َ‫بِنَفْسِي َانْتَ مِنْ تِالَ ِد ِنع‬
are unparalleled center of bounties.
ٰ‫ف الَيُسَاوَى‬
ٍ َ‫ف شَر‬
ِ ‫بِنَفْسِي َانْتَ مِنْ نَصِي‬

are unequaled in all-inclusive honor.
ٰ‫ي َوإِلَىٰ مَ َتى‬
َ ‫ال‬
َ ْ‫ى اَحَا ُر فِيكَ يَا مَو‬
ٰ َ‫إِلَىٰ مَت‬
Until when will I be bewildered about you,
O my master, and until when?
ٰ‫صفُ فِيكَ وَاَيَّ َنجْ َوى‬
ِ َ‫ب ا‬
ٍ ‫ي خِطَا‬
َّ َ‫وَا‬
In what kind of statement and in what kind
of talk can I describe you?
ٰ‫ب دُونَكَ وَا نَا َغى‬
َ ‫َي اَنْ ا جَا‬
It is hard for me that I can receive answers
and words, but you cannot.
ٰ‫َي اَنْ اَبْكِيَكَ َويَخْذُلَكَ ٱلْوَرَى‬
It is hard for me that I weep for you but the
others disappoint you.

‫ك دُونَهُمْ مَا‬
َ ْ‫َي اَنْ يَجْرِيَ َعلَي‬
ٰ‫جَ َرى‬
It is hard for me that what has happened
afflict you other than all the others.
َ ُ َ
َ‫يل َمعَهُ ٱْلعَوِيلَ وَٱلْبُكَاء‬
ْ ‫ن فأ ِط‬ٍ ‫هَلْ مِنْ مُعِي‬
Is there any helper with whom I may
lament and bewail as much as I wish?
‫ال‬
َ َ‫د جَزَعَ ُه إِذَا خ‬
َ ِ‫ع فَا سَاع‬
ٍ ‫جزُو‬
َ ‫ن‬
ْ ِ‫هَلْ م‬
Is there any aggrieved one whom I can
help in grief when he becomes tired?
‫ى‬
ٰ َ‫دتْهَا عَيْنِي َعل‬
َ َ‫ن فَسَاع‬
ٌ ْ‫ذيَتْ عَي‬
ِ َ‫ل ق‬
ْ َ‫ه‬
ٰ‫ذى‬
َ َ‫ٱلْق‬

Is there any faint twinkle of evidence to

make me willingly take up the trouble?
ٰ‫د سَبِيلٌ َف ُتلْقَى‬
َ ‫ل إِلَيْكَ يَا بْنَ اَحْ َم‬
ْ َ‫ه‬
Is there any way to meet you, O son of
Ahmad (the Prophet)?
ٰ‫ظى‬
َ ْ‫ك ِبعِدَ ٍة َفنَح‬
َ ْ‫صلُ يَ ْومُنَا مِن‬
ِ َّ‫ل يَت‬
ْ َ‫ه‬
Will our day be promised to catch your
day and we will thus achieve our hope?
‫ى‬
ٰ ‫ى نَرِدُ َمنَا ِهلَكَ ٱلرَّوِيَّ َة فَنَرْ َو‬
ٰ َ‫مَت‬
When will we be able to join your
refreshing springs and we will then be
satiated?
‫ك‬
َ ِ‫ذبِ مَائ‬
ْ َ‫ى نَنْتَ ِقعُ مِنْ ع‬
ٰ َ‫مَت‬
When will we quench our thirst from your
fresh water,

ٰ‫دى‬
َ َّ‫ل ٱلص‬
َ ‫د طَا‬
ْ َ‫فَق‬
because thirst has been too long?
‫ك فَنُقِرَّ عَيْنًا‬
َ ُ‫ى ُنغَادِيكَ َونُرَاوِح‬
ٰ َ‫مَت‬
When will we accompany you in coming
and going so that our eyes will be
delighted?
‫د نَشَرْتَ لِوَاءَ ٱلنَّصْ ِر‬
ْ َ‫ى تَرَانَا َونَرَاكَ َوق‬
ٰ َ‫مَت‬
ٰ‫تُ َرى‬
When will you see us and we see you
spreading the pennon of victory?
‫ت تَؤُمُّ ٱْل َملَ َا‬
َ ْ‫ُف بِكَ وَاَن‬
ُّ ‫اَتَرَانَا نَح‬
Can it be that we surround you while you
are leading the groups,

ً‫َوقَدْ َملَا تَ ٱالَ ْرضَ عَدْ ال‬

after you will have filled in the earth with
justice,
‫ك هَوَانًا وَعِقَابًا‬
َ َ‫ت اَ ْعدَاء‬
َ ْ‫وَاَ َذق‬
tasted your enemies humiliation and
punishment,
ِّ‫وَاَبَرْتَ ٱْلعُتَاةَ وَجَحَدَ َة ٱلْحَق‬
annihilated the insolent defiant and the
deniers of the truth,
َ‫ت دَابِرَ ٱْلمُتَكَبِّرِين‬
َ ْ‫طع‬
َ َ‫َوق‬
cut off the roots of the arrogant,
َ‫وَٱجْتَثَثْتَ اُصُولَ ٱلظَّاِلمِين‬
eradicated the sources of the wrongdoers,

َ‫د لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱْلعَاَلمِين‬

ُ ْ‫حم‬
َ ْ‫ن نَقُولُ ٱل‬
ُ ْ‫َونَح‬
and we keep on saying, “All praise be to
Allah the Lord of the worlds?”
ٰ‫فْٱلكُرَبِ وَٱلْ َب ْلوَى‬
ُ ‫ُم اَنْتَ كَشَّا‬
O Allah, You are verily the reliever from
agonies and ordeals.
ٰ‫ك اَسْ َتعْدِي َفعِنْدَكَ ٱْلعَدْ َوى‬
َ ْ‫وَإِلَي‬
To You do I complain about the
transgressions against me, for You alone
are worthy of receiving complaints,
‫َٱلدنْيَا‬
ُّ ‫َب ٱآلخِ َرةِ و‬
ُّ ‫وَاَنْتَ ر‬
and You are alone the Lord of the
Hereafter and this world.

‫ك‬
َ َ‫ث يَا ِغيَاثَ ٱْل ُمسْ َتغِيثِينَ عُبَيْد‬
ْ ِ‫فَاَغ‬
ٰ‫ٱْلمُبْ َت َلى‬
So, (please) aid Your agonized worthless
servant, O Aide of those who seek aid,
ٰ‫د ٱلْقُ َوى‬
َ ‫د ُه يَا شَدِي‬
َ ِّ‫وَاَ ِر ِه سَي‬
grant him (i.e. Your servant) chance to see
his master, O Lord of mighty prowess,
ٰ‫وَاَ ِزلْ عَنْ ُه بِهِ ٱالَسَىٰ وَٱلْجَوَى‬
remove from him misfortune and anguish,
in the name of his master,
‫ى‬
ٰ َ‫ش ٱسْتَو‬
ِ ْ‫ن َعلَىٰ ٱْلعَر‬
ْ َ‫َوبَرِّدْ َغلِيلَ ُه يَا م‬
and satisfy his thirst, O He Who is
established on the Throne

ٰ‫ن إِلَيْهِ ٱلرُّجْعَىٰ وَٱلْمُنْتَ َهى‬

ْ َ‫َوم‬
and He to Whom is the return and the final
goal.
َ‫ن ِإلَىٰ وَلِيِّك‬
َ ‫اَللَّهُمَّ َونَحْنُ عَبِيدُكَ ٱلتَّائِقُو‬
O Allah, we are Your servants who are
fervently willing to meet Your vicegerent,
َ‫ٱْلمُذَكِّ ِر بِكَ َوبِنَبِيِّك‬
who reminds of You and Your Prophet;
‫صمَةً َو َمالَذًا‬
ْ ِ‫خلَقْتَهُ لَنَا ع‬
َ
and whom You have created as haven and
refuge for us,
‫وَاَ َقمْتَهُ لَنَا قِوَامًا َومَعَاذًا‬
You have appointed as foundation and
source of protection for us,

‫ج َعلْتَهُ ِل ْلمُ ْؤمِنِينَ مِنَّا إِمَامًا‬

َ َ‫و‬
and whom You have made to be the leader
of the believers among us.
‫سالَمًا‬
َ ‫َلغْهُ مِنَّا تَحِيَّةً َو‬
ِّ ‫فَب‬
So, (please) convey to him greetings and
salutations from us,
‫ك يَا رَبِّ إِكْرَامًا‬
َ ِ‫وَزِ ْدنَا بِذٰل‬
endue us with more honor, O my Lord,
through that,
‫َرهُ لَنَا مُسْتَقَرًِّا َومُقَامًا‬
َّ ‫جعَلْ مُسْتَق‬
ْ ‫وَٱ‬
decide his settlement among us to be
settlement and dwelling for us,
‫ك إِيَّا ُه َامَامَنَا‬
َ ِ‫ك بِتَقْدِيـم‬
َ ‫م ِن ْعمَ َت‬
ْ ِ‫وَاَْتم‬
Go To Index

and perfect Your bounty by making him

occupy the leading position before us
‫ك‬
َ َ‫ى تُورِ َدنَا جِنَان‬
ٰ َّ‫حَت‬
so that You shall allow us to enter the
gardens of Your Paradise
َ‫خلَصَاِئك‬
ُ ‫ن‬
ْ ِ‫َومُرَافَقَةَ ٱلشُّهَدَاءِ م‬
and to accompany the martyrs from among
Your elite ones.
O Allah, (please) send blessings upon
Muhammad;
َ‫َدهِ وَ َرسُولِك‬
ِّ ‫وَصَلِّ َع َلىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ ج‬
and send blessings upon Muhammad his
grandfather and Your messenger;

ِ‫ٱلسَّيِّدِ ٱالَكْبَر‬
the senior master,
ِ‫صغَر‬
ْ َ‫ى اَبِيهِ ٱلسَّيِّدِ ٱال‬
upon his father the junior master,
ٰ‫َدتِ ِه ٱلصِّدِّيقَةِ ٱلْكُبْ َرى‬
َّ ‫وَج‬
upon his grandmother the grand veracious
lady
‫د‬
ٍ َّ‫فَا ِطمَ َة بِنْتِ مُحَم‬
Fatimah the daughter of Muhammad,
ٰ َّ‫صَل‬
peace be upon him and his Household,
ِ‫وَ َعلَىٰ مَنِ ٱصْطَفَيْتَ مِنْ آبَائِ ِه ٱْلبَرَ َرة‬

upon his dutiful fathers whom You have

chosen (over all others),
َ‫وَ َعلَيْ ِه اَفْضَلَ وَاَ ْكمَل‬
and upon him with such most favorable,
most perfect,
َ‫وَاَتَمَّ وَاَدْوَم‬
most thorough, most permanent,
َ‫وَاَكْثَرَ وَاَوْفَر‬
most abundant, and most plentiful
َ‫ن اَصْفِيَاِئك‬
ْ ِ‫ى اَحَدٍ م‬
ٰ َ‫مَا صَلَّيْتَ َعل‬
blessings that You have ever sent upon any
of Your elite ones
‫ك‬
َ ِ‫خلْق‬
َ ‫ن‬
ْ ِ‫وَخِيَ َرتِكَ م‬

and well-chosen ones among Your

creatures.
‫صالَ ًة الَ غَايَةَ ِلعَدَدِهَا‬
َ ‫وَصَلِّ َع َليْ ِه‬
And (please) bless him with such blessings
whose number is infinite,
‫ال نِهَايَةَ ِلمَدَدِهَا‬
َ َ‫و‬
whose quantity is never-ending,
‫ال نَفَادَ الَمَدِهَا‬
َ َ‫و‬
and whose time is interminable.
َّ‫م بِهِ ٱلْحَق‬
ْ ِ‫اَللَّهُمَّ وَاَق‬
O Allah! Through him, establish all rights,
َ‫ض بِهِ ٱلْبَا ِطل‬
ْ ِ‫وَاَدْح‬
refute the entire wrong,

َ‫ل بِهِ اَوْلِيَاءَك‬

ْ ‫وَاَ ِد‬
grant triumph to Your loyalists,
َ‫ل بِ ِه اَعْدَاءَك‬
ْ ِ‫وَاَذْل‬
humiliate Your enemies,
ُ‫ُم بَيْنَنَا َوبَيْ َنه‬
َّ ‫ٱلله‬
َّ ‫ل‬ِ ِ‫وَص‬
establish, O Allah, between him and us
‫سلَفِ ِه‬
َ ‫صلَ ًة تُؤَدِّي إِلَىٰ مُرَافَقَ ِة‬
ْ ُ‫و‬
a connection that leads us to accompany
his ancestors,
ْ‫ن يَأْخُذُ بِحُجْ َزتِهِم‬
ْ َّ‫ج َعلْنَا مِم‬
ْ ‫وَٱ‬
include us with those who will take their
vengeance
ْ‫ث فِي ظِلِّهِم‬
ُ ُ‫َوَيمْك‬

and keep constant under their shadow,

ِ‫ى تَا ِديَ ِة حُقُوقِ ِه إِلَ ْيه‬
ٰ َ‫وَاَعِنَّا َعل‬
help us fulfill our duties towards him,
ِ‫وَٱلِٱجْتِهَا ِد فِي طَاعَتِه‬
exert all efforts in obedience to him
ِ‫وَٱجْتِنَابِ َمعْصِيَتِه‬
and avoiding disobeying him,
‫وَٱمْنُنْ َعلَيْنَا بِرِضَا ُه‬
bestow upon us with the favor of attaining
his pleasure,
ُ‫حمَتَه‬
ْ َ‫وَهَبْ لَنَا رَأفَتَهُ وَر‬
and grant us his kindness, mercy,
ُ‫وَدُعَا َءهُ وَخَيْ َره‬

prayer (for us), and his goodness

ْ َ‫ن ر‬
ْ ِ‫سعَةً م‬
َ ِ‫ل بِه‬
ُ ‫مَا نَنَا‬
in an amount due to which we will gain a
good deal of Your mercy
َ‫َوفَوْزًا عِنْدَك‬
and achievement with You.
ً‫التَنَا بِ ِه مَقبُوَلة‬
َ‫ص‬َ ‫ل‬
ْ َ‫جع‬
ْ ‫وَٱ‬
And, through him, render our prayers
admitted,
‫وَ ُذنُوبَنَا بِهِ َمغْفُورَ ًة‬
our sins forgiven,
‫وَدُعَا َءنَا بِهِ مُسْتَجَابًا‬
and our supplications responded.

ً‫ل اَرْزَاقَنَا بِهِ مَبْسُو َطة‬

ْ َ‫جع‬
ْ ‫وَٱ‬
And, through him too, make our
sustenance expanded for us,
ً‫وَ ُهمُومَنَا بِهِ مَكْفِيَّة‬
our distresses relieved,
ً‫وَحَوَائِجَنَا بِهِ مَقْضِيَّة‬
and our needs granted.
ِ‫ل إِلَ ْينَا بِوَجْهِكَ ٱلْكَرِيـم‬
ْ ِ‫وََاقْب‬
And (please) receive us with Your Noble
Face,
َ‫ل تَقَ ُّربَنَا إِلَيْك‬
ْ َ‫وَٱقْب‬
approve of our seeking nearness to You,
ً‫وَٱنْظُ ْر إِلَ ْينَا نَظْ َرةً رَحِيمَة‬

and have a merciful look at us

َ‫ل بِهَا ٱلْكَرَامَةَ عِنْدَك‬
ُ ِ‫كم‬
ْ َ‫نَسْت‬
by which we will win perfect honor with
You;
َ‫ثُمَّ الَ تَصْ ِرفْهَا عَنَّا بِجُودِك‬
and, after that, do not ever take it away
from us, in the name of Your
magnanimity,
‫ن حَ ْوضِ جَدِّ ِه‬
ْ ‫وَٱسْقِنَا ِم‬
and give us a drink from the Pond of his
grandfather,
ٰ َّ‫صَل‬
may Allah bless him and his Household,
‫بِكَ ْأسِ ِه َوبِيَدِ ِه‬

from his own cup and with his own hand,

‫رَيًِّا رَوِيًِّا‬
such a replete, satiating,
‫هَنِيئًا سَائِغًا‬
pleasant, and wholesome drink
ُ‫ده‬
َ ْ‫الَ َظمَاَ َبع‬
after which we shall never suffer from
thirst.
َ‫م ٱلرَّاحِمين‬
َ َ‫يَا اَرْح‬

Salaah Istegatha Imam

Zaman ‫عليه السالم‬
Recite 2 rakat salaah in the following

manner;
In each unit (rakat), whilst reciting Surah
al-Hamd, when you reach at the verse:
“iyyaka na 'budu wa iyyaka nasta'in”
(You alone we worship and You alone
we ask for help), repeat it 100 times and
then finish the rest of Surah al-Hamd.
Then recite Surah al-Ikhlas once.
During the genuflection (rukoo) and the
prostration (sujud), the invocation (dhikr)
should be recited seven times.

After completing the prayer, the words

“la ilaha illalah” (there is no god but
Allah) should be recited once.
Then recite the Tasbih of Sayyida Zahra
‫سالم هللا عليها‬

Salaah for Night of 13th, 14th and

15th Sha’ban
It is recommended to offer a certain

prayer on each of the White Nights (i.e.
the thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth
nights of each Arabic month) in Rajab,
Sha`ban, and Ramadan.
On the 13th Night , recite a 2 Raka’
Salaah, in each unit after Sura Fatihah
recite Sura Yasin, Sura Mulk and Sura
Tawheed once each.
On the 14th Night recite a 4 Raka’ and
on the 15th Night recite a 6 Raka’ Salaah
with the same method as mentioned
above.
Imam Ja`far al-Sadiq ‫ عليه السالم‬is reported

as saying, “Whoever offers these prayers,

will be awarded the merits of these three
months (namely, Rajab, Sha`ban, and
Ramadan) and will have all his sins
forgiven, except polytheism.

Salaahs Specific for the Night of 15th

Sha’ban
At the mid-Sha`ban night, you may offer

a four unit prayer in each unit of which
you may recite Surah al-Fatihah once and
Surah al-Tawhid one hundred times.
After accomplishment, you may say the
following supplicatory prayer:
ٌ‫ك فَقِير‬
َ ْ‫ُم إِنِّي إِلَي‬
O Allah, I am in need for You
ٌ‫ف مُسْتَجِير‬
ٌ ِ‫ك خَائ‬
َ ‫َومِنْ عَذَاِب‬
and I am fearful of You, seeking Your
shelter against Your chastisement.

‫سمِي‬
ْ ‫لٱ‬
ِ ِّ‫ُم الَ تُبَد‬
O Allah, (please) do not erase my name,
‫سمِي‬
ْ ِ‫ال ُتغَيِّ ْر ج‬
َ َ‫و‬
do not change my body,
‫د َبالَئِي‬
ْ َ‫ال تَجْه‬
َ َ‫و‬
do not increase my ordeals,
‫ت بِي اعْدَائِي‬
ْ ِ‫شم‬
ْ ُ‫ال ت‬
َ َ‫و‬
and do not make my enemies rejoice at my
misfortune.
َ‫اعُو ُذ ِبعَفْوِكَ مِنْ عِقَابِك‬

I resort to Your pardon against Your
punishment,

َ‫حمَتِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِك‬

ْ َ‫وَاعُو ُذ بِر‬
I resort to Your mercy against Your
chastisement,
َ‫سخَطِك‬
َ ْ‫وَاعُو ُذ بِرِضَاكَ مِن‬
I resort to Your pleasure against Your wrath,
َ‫وَاعُو ُذ بِكَ مِنْك‬

and I resort to You against You.
َ‫جَلَّ ثَنَاؤُك‬
Enormous be the praise of You.
َ‫ى نَفْسِك‬
ٰ َ‫ت َكمَا اْثنَيْتَ َعل‬
َ ْ‫َان‬
You are as exactly as You have praised
Yourself

َ‫ل ٱلْقَائِلُون‬
ُ ‫َوفَوْقَ مَا َيقُو‬
and above all that which is said about You.
It is worth mentioning that traditions

have decided a great reward for one who
offers a one hundred unit prayer at this
night; in each unit, Surah al-Fatihah is
recited once and Surah al-Tawhid ten
times.

Tawassul to the Ma’sumeen ‫عليهم السالم‬
As a final act on this night, take account

for his own soul and the actions he has
performed during the year. A person
should sincerely and properly ponder
and reflect upon his actions during this
year and ask repentance for his previous
acts of transgression since it is only those
people whom Allah (Glorified and
Exalted is He) has protected from
committing sin and error who are free of
this pollution. If a person sees that he has
little to no sins on his record then he

should compare this to one of the most

insignificant blessings that Allah
(Glorified and Exalted is He) has given
him and weigh the two on the scales of
justice that with his trivial acts of good,
has he been able to repay Allah
(Glorified and Exalted is He) back for all
the goodness He has provided?
If he realizes that he has sins and
transgressions on his record, then he
must resort to Tawassul to the
Ma‘sumin (blessings be upon all of
them) to make up for his shortcomings.

He should address the infallible ones by

saying following:-
"O you who Allah has placed between

Himself and His servants! O you who are
the protectors of His revelation. I ask you
by the position that you have that you
look towards me, a sinful servant, with
your eyes
of mercy the one who has been lax in his
worship, who possesses nothing and is
nothing. Have mercy upon me and
request Allah to accept me and to be
pleased with me on this night and to

permit me to be benefit from your

prayers and supplications and to
permit me to take advantage of your
intercession and to be classified as your
Shi‘a. In addition, ask Allah to grant me
with the reward of goodness and
guidance from you. Pray that He makes
me of strong will and that I am successful
in performing good deeds for my
religion, my life here and my next life.
In closing, please accept this from myself

and ask Allah that to grant me the ability
to know Him, be close to Him and permit

me to earn His pleasure and that He join

me both in this world and the next with
all of you and that I am classified as one
of your followers and close friends and
companions. All of this is only in His
hands. May the blessings of Allah be
upon all of you and whatever Allah wills
will only happen and there is no power
or strength save with Him."
