Cell Phone Policy

We do not encourage students to have cell phones at Ottawa Torah Institute/Machon Sarah. If
parents feel it is essential for their child to have a cell phone in school, the following rules are
currently in force:

• Cell phones may not be seen or heard on campus at any time. If brought on campus
they must be turned off and kept in the student’s backpack while on school premises.
• Cell phone use is not permitted in the washrooms or anywhere else on campus.
• Any student who is caught with their cell phone during class time will have their cell
phone confiscated until the end of the day for a first offence. For a second offence,
phone will be confiscated, parent will be called to then pick up phone from the office.
• If this policy is not adhered to by all students, the administration will require all cell
phones to be dropped off in the office at the start of each school day, and picked up at
dismissal (as is the policy in many schools).

We understand that there may be circumstances when you may need to reach your child during
the school day. On such occasions, I encourage you to call the OTI/MS office at 613-244-9119.
In the event of an actual emergency, if you are unable to get through on our office number,
please contact the Torah Day School office by email: office@torahday.ca or call for further
assistance at 613-274-0110.
