Read the passage and then answer the following question.

Human Is Created to Know

Started with the first human being in this world, Prophet Adam a.s, knowledge had

been given straightforwardly from Allah through his command shows the sacredness of a

knowledge. But with passage of time, all kinds of knowledge have been mixed with human

glitch, egotism, chauvinism and also sentiment when it comes to the application of

knowledge.

Islam is the religion of knowledge and the Muslim community should always be a knowledge

community. Knowledge in Muslim societies should be a measure for establishing the extent

of the people’s relationship with Islam, as well as an integral part of a prosperity index that

could become a standard of excellent policies and practices. In Islam, acquiring knowledge

is a form of jihad; a noble act of worship. It is significant nowadays as the modern Muslims

are now divided and turning on each other’s back when in the past, the Muslims were major

contributors to the society and the world of knowledge.

The importance of acquiring knowledge comprehensively. The first discussion on the

importance of acquiring knowledge is the concepts of worship and knowledge are almost

synonymous to each other in the sense that having knowledge is needed to implement
religious acts. For example, Prophet Adam was given the names of everything prior to the

knowledge about religious commands and prophetic revelation.

The next importance of acquiring knowledge is because knowledge comes before action.

Meaning that knowledge should follow by action while action should come with knowledge.

The third importance of acquiring knowledge is the position of the virtuous scholars who are

exquisite in Islam because they are considered as the legacy of the prophets. Lastly,

knowledge should be acquired to achieve ihsan (excellence in worship) as it symbolises the

highest level in one’s spiritual development.

Knowledge, from the point of view of Islam is classified into two kinds of categories;

i.) The basic knowledge derived directly from the Quran and Sunnah.

The Qur'ān is the book of Allah SWT which has been preserved since it was

revealed. The Qur'ān contains general and broad guidelines for the conduct of

human beings. On knowledge matters also it provides a set of fundamental principles

of knowledge. The Qur'ān and Sunnah are thus a primary source of the Islamization

of human knowledge.

ii.) The knowledge acquired by man primarily with the help of his intellect and

experiments.

At the end of the day, the most valuable thing to be owned by a person is knowledge. It is

vital for us to reform the essence of knowledge and to build a clearer vision of knowledge for

future references. The comprehensive Quranic perspective covers all fields of science which

extends over facts, methods, application, goals and the core issues. With the misleading

usage of knowledge applied to egoism, transforming scientific weapons against mankind

rather than His favour, formulating the Islamic character to knowledge becomes more

important. That is the difference when those who only seek knowledge to gain wealth and

position.
