ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Perseverance, inspiration and motivation have always played a key

role in any venture. It is not just the brain that matters most, but that
which guides them. The character, the heart, generous qualities and
progressive forces. What was conceived just as an idea materialized
slowly into concrete facts. The metamorphosis took endless hours of
toil, had its moments of frustration, but in the end, everything
seemed to have sense”.
At this level of understanding it is often difficult to understand the wide
spectrum of knowledge without proper guidance and advise. Hence, we
take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to our project
guide Prof. Yusuf Ajmeri who had faith in us and allowed us to work on
this project.

We would like to thank all the faculties for their immense support,
interest, valuable guidance, constant inspiration and kind of co-
operation throughout the period of word undertaken, which has been
instrumented in the success of our project.

We also acknowledge our profound sense of gratitude to all non-

teaching staff members of our department who have been instrumental
for providing us the instrument in laboratories and moral support to
complete the project.

We thank our family and friends for their moral support to carve out
this project and above all GOD for removing all hurdles in the way.
Abstract
Automation becomes important, because it gives the user the
comfortable and easily for using the devices. The implementation of
automation can be used in various fields like industry, home, hospitals,
defense, construction sites, education, etc. To be very precise, in this
project we had focused on the industry and home. Automation comforts
human efforts. We can also say that automation enhance lifestyle of an
individual.

Home automation is recently gaining popularity due to the comfort it

provides for human commodity. It provides an ease of doing tedious
and unproductive work. For an example, broom is being replaced by
vacuum cleaner. These cleaners increase efficiency by saving time.
Moreover, IOT based gadgets provides an ecosystem which guarantees
lifestyle with comforts.

With fatigue and unreluctantly gaining stress, human have tendency to

do mistakes. These mistakes can risk human lives with resource
damage. To prevent this, in this project, we aim to design such device
which can prevent hazardous accidents due to leakage of gas, with
cost effective and provides ‘ease of use’ to consumers.

Chapter 1: Introduction
PART-I : About our Domain
i) Introduction of Domain: Automation is an integral part of our life.
Nowadays domains like Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning
are making life easier than ever imagined. But benefits come with
the heavy cost. Human lives are being destroyed due to machinery
faults and mismanagement. Therefore, safety is priority for everyone.
In this project, we aim to design the most appropriate gadget which
will secure safety by notifying the user about environment of
targeted area.

ii) History: The modern era of gas detection started in 1926–1927 with
the development of the catalytic combustion (LEL) sensor by Dr.Oliver
Johnson. Dr Johnson was an employee of Standard Oil Company in
California (now Chevron), he began research and development on a
method to detect combustible mixtures in air to help prevent
explosions in fuel storage tanks. A demonstration model was
developed in 1926 and denoted as the Model A. The first practical
"electric vapor indicator" meter begun production in 1927 with the
release of the Model B.

iii) Importance of Gas detector:

 Gas detectors are commonly included as part of a health and
safety system within the workplace, with portable
instruments designed for protecting personnel when working
in potentially hazardous areas. Fixed gas detection systems
comprise of individual gas detectors connected to a central
alarm panel, providing constant monitoring of gas detection
within the designated area.
 Health and safety regulations stipulate the use of such devices
across a wide range of industries including; mining, oil & gas,
manufacturing, laboratory research, and agriculture. Used as
an essential part of safety equipment, gas detectors can detect
oxygen deficiency, explosive atmospheres and multiple
poisonous gases, thus removing threats from hazardous and
potentially lethal environments.
 Regular calibration of gas detectors is vital to verify the sensor
accuracy and system integrity, enabling reliable and continuous
safety for your workforce.
iv) “Why we choose this domain?” – As discussed earlier, LPG
detection has its importance in various ways. Exploding cooking gas
cylinders and stoves accounted for nearly one-sixth of all deaths
from accidental fires between 2010 and 2014, with a total of 19,491 deaths,
according to a post on the IndiaSpend website in September 2015.

PART 2: Design Thinking

i) “What is Design Thinking?” Design thinking is a methodology that
designers use to brainstorm and solve complex problems related to
designing and design engineering. It is also beneficial for
designers to find innovative, desirable and never-thought-before
solutions for customers and clients.
Design thinking is used extensively in the area of healthcare and
wellness, agriculture, food security, education, financial services, and
environmental sustainability, to name a few. Design thinking has
helped in the digital space, contributed to the development of physical
products, spurred social innovation projects and much more.
The iterative design process helps the designers to involve clients
and customers in meaningful ways. It is not just a strategy to come
up with feasible solutions to a problem, but also a method to think of
unimaginable solutions and then trying to make them not just
feasible, but also viable.
Design thinking is a blend of logic, powerful imagination, systematic
reasoning and intuition to bring to the table the ideas that
promise to solve the problems of the clients with desirable
outcomes. It helps to bring creativity with business insights.
ii) “ Why is Design Thinking importance?”

If you think like a designer, it can transform how your

organization develops products, services, processes, and
strategies. It brings
together the desirability from the customer’s perspective with what
is technologically feasible and economically viable. It also provides
various opportunities for people who aren’t trained as designers to
utilise creative tools so that they can tackle a vast range of
problems/challenges.

There are also some essential aspects in which design thinking

helps, and they are:
 The main objective is to solve the customer’s requirements
 Helps in tackling ambiguous and challenging problems
 Drives people to create innovative solutions
 It helps organizations to run faster with more efficiency
