SBTET- Diploma First Year Unit – I Examinations December-2022

(Engineering Mechanics)
Sub. Code: C-105 Max. Time: 90 minutes
Date: Max. Marks: 40
Set-1
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PART-A
Instructions: i) Answer all questions
ii) First question carries four marks, and the remaining questions carry three marks
each. (4 + 12 = 16 Marks)
1. Two forces 12 N each act at right angles to each other. Find the magnitude and
direction of a single force that produces the same effect. (CO-2)
2. State the law of parallelogram of forces. (CO-1)
3. Define Composition and Resolution of forces. (CO-1)
4. Define centroid and show the position of centroid for a figure semicircle. (CO-3)
5. Differentiate between centre of gravity and centroid. (CO-3)

PART-B
Instructions: i) Answer all questions carry 8 marks each – 3x8 = 24 Marks
ii) Answer should be comprehensive, and the criterion for the valuation is the
content but not the length of the answer.
6. A wheel has 5 spokes which are equispaced. The forces acting in three consecutive
spokes are 12 kN., 14 kN. and 10 kN. Find the forces acting in the other two spokes
for the wheel to be in equilibrium. (CO2)
7. State Varignon’s principle. An electric light fixture weighing 30 N hangs from a point
‘O’ by means of two strings OA and OB as shown in Figure. Determine the forces in
the strings. (CO-2)

8. Find the centroid of I-section made up of top flange 70×22 mm, web 120×20 mm
and bottom flange 100×18 mm. (CO-3)
