Description of a new species belonging to the genus Pollenia in Japan (Diptera, Calliphoridae) Rokuro Kano* and Satoshi Shinonaga* In the present paper the authors describe a new species belonging to the genus Pollenia collected in Japan. ‘The specimens were ob- tained mainly in mountainous areas of northern Honshu, but one specimen was found in the fly collection of Mr. M. Ueda in Kyushu, The authors express their sincere appreciation to Dr. S. Fukushi, Hirosaki University, and Mr. M, Ueda, Kita-kyushu City, who loaned the materi- als to them ; to Dr. K. Kaneko, Tokyo Medical and Dental University, and T. Watanabe, Sen- dai City, who assisted in the collecting of ma- terials ; to Col. Joseph F. Meteger and Col Hugh L. Keegan for their helps to. make this study ; and to Miss, M, Misaki, 406th Medical Laboratory, U.S. Army, for her beautiful and accurate drawings. According to Keilin (1915) the larva of Pol- lenia rudis is a parasite in the earthworm, Allobophora chlorotica Savigny, therefore, it ‘This species is closely related to P. intermedia, ‘but it differs from the latter by the features described below : Species PS | P. japonica | P. intermedia Features] : a dere ee Ventalia of | Tounded pointed apically 1 part cof paraphallus_|_ ‘aight bent dorsally Outer forceps | slender breed is supposed that the larvae of this species may be also parasitic to some kinds of invertebrates such as the earthworm, Kurahashi (1963) reported Pollenia intermedia Macquart as a new record from Japan, but it was identified as identical species with P. japonica by the authors, REFERENCES 1) Senior-White, R., Aubertin, D. and J.
