KINGDOM OF ARCHAEBACTERIA

ARCHAEBACTERIA

 Archaea is a domain of single-celled organisms. These microorganisms lack cell nuclei and are
therefore prokaryotes. Archaea were initially classified as bacteria, receiving the name
archaebacteria, but this term has fallen out of use.

Examples of Archae Bacteria

HALOPHILES

 Halophiles are organisms represented by archaea, bacteria, and eukarya for which the main
characteristic is their salinity requirement, halophilic “salt-loving”. Halophilic microorganisms
constitute the natural microbial communities of hypersaline ecosystems, which are widely
distributed around the world.
METHANOGENS

 Methanogens are microorganisms that produce methane as a metabolic byproduct in hypoxic

conditions. They are prokaryotic and belong to the domain Archaea. All known methanogens are
members of the archaeal phylum Euryarchaeota

THERMOACIDOPHILES

 Thermoacidophiles are microorganisms that have developed mechanisms to successfully persist

in unusually hot, acidic environments, with optimal conditions of pH ≤4 and temperature ≥55°C.
