• Inlet regulated and outlet controlled
• Set point is 85ºC or 185ºF
• Temperature Control Module (TCM) utilizes a
dedicated temperature sensor that reports
coolant temperature directly to the TCM.

• Normally makes loud noises on power-up associated


with calibration
• Upon engine power-up the stepper motor/piston will
be reset or recalibrated
• Stepper motor is commanded to move to full stroke
plus a pre-programmed overshoot to ensure the
reset position is attained
• Stepper motor drives the piston to the configured
stop

• Level 2 Warning/25% Derate -- 98°C (208°F)
• 50% Derate -- 101°C (213°F)
• 75% Derate -- 103°C (217°F)
• 100% Derate/Shutdown -- 105°C (221°F)

Troubleshooting TCM

• If temperature sensor were to fail, the


thermostat can be manually operated:
1. Unplug stepper motor and TCM
2. Take cover off motor and rotate piston shaft manually
3. Is an emergency containment method to maintain engine
performance

supply ports enables
equal supply pressure to
all cylinders
• Cylinder number 1
cooling supply port has
the smallest diameter

cooling supply ports
• The size of cooling
supply ports for cylinders
3,5,and 7 is slightly
larger than the diameter
of cooling supply port for
