Several short 10-minute or even 5-minute bursts of activity

throughout the day can be just as good as an hour-long stretch.
Walking or cycling short distances instead of using the car or bus
is a great way to be active together as a family.
Discourage your child from having sugary or high-fat foods.
These foods and drinks tend to be high in calories and low in
nutrients.
Avoid using adult-size plates for younger children as it
encourages them to eat oversized portions.
The less children sleep, the greater the risk of them becoming
obese. Lack of sleep can also affect their mood and behaviour.
The best eating pattern for a child's growth and development
considers the child's age, activity level.
Encourage your family to drink lots of water.
Physically active children are happier and more confident.
Remember that small changes every day can lead to success!

The Lion and the Poor Slave

There was once a slave who was treated

cruelly by his master. One day, he couldn’t
take it anymore and ran away to the forest to
escape. There he chanced upon a lion who
couldn’t walk because of the thorn in its paw.
Although he’s scared, the slave mustered his
courage and took out the thorn in the lion’s
paw. When the lion was finally free of the
thorn, he ran into the forest and didn’t harm
the slave. Sometime later, the slave was
caught by his master along with some animals
in the forest. The master then ordered the
slave to be thrown into the lion’s den. When
the slave saw the lion, he recognized it as the
same lion he helped in the forest. The slave
was able to escape the den unharmed and he
freed all the other animals.

Moral of the story:

The good you did will always have a way of
coming back to you. So do good deeds and be
kind to others and the world will be kind to
you.

From Me to
Dear Readers, You
Warm greetings to you all.
"I no longer feared the darkness once I knew the phoenix in me would rise from the ashes."
- William C. Hannan.
This academic session is rather a fascinating one
which has seen the transition from the ubiquitous online
mode to the offline model.
As the previous academic session ended in May it brought about the
realisation of the changes that have come about in each of
the children which stem from the numerous challenges
that each of them had faced.
All the children deserve to be congratulated for
thriving this year, especially the younger classes, including
the 2 grades that have come to school for the first time this year. Their confidence is awe-
inspiring indeed.
It takes great fortitude to maintain quality of work and clarity of purpose in times
of upheaval. All have worked very hard and adapted wonderfully to changes in circumstances
and for that heartfelt true appreciation is needed.
When the world came to a standstill during the pandemic , our Orchidians
continued to strive hard and scale new heights. This was the first time the children were
exposed to competitions on the online platform which allowed them to compete at national as
well as international levels. This neither incited fear nor gave rise to any inhibitions. Instead,
they took up the challenge with great enthusiasm and brought laurels to the school by winning
accolades in several prestigious competitions.
With the resumption of physical school once again, proficiency is visible with the
ability to adapt in every sphere and at every level-be it sports, academics, social service or
international vistas.
I truly value the role that the parents have played in the students' learning, be it in
the online or the offline mode. The grit and determination exhibited and invested by the
teachers is also praiseworthy.
With such amazing students and the brilliant staff and faculty that supports and
guides with firm, but gentle direction, I am looking forward in
anticipation of assured success in this year as well.

Passion for our
Purpose
Be the unique “YOU”
A bird sitting on a tree is never afraid of the branch breaking because her trust is not
on the branch bit on its own wings. Always believe in your self

We always look at everyone around us and get inspired by people who have set a
marking in their lives. We tend to make role models, mentors and aspire to be like
them. In this race of perfection we tend to loose our own personality. Society has
always set certain denominators for success and we blindly follow them. We have
been told to take inspiration but no one tells you to do self search and know the real
you inside.
Every individual is different and I strongly believe that every individual has been
gifted with a unique personality and talent. Looking out for inspiration is good but
looking inside is equally important. What am I good at? What is my strength? What
gives me real happiness? These are some of the questions you need to ask yourself.
Self search will help you to grow not only in your career but also show you the path of
your life that can lead you to success and a happy fulfilled life.
Just because someone is a doctor or engineer and is successful does not mean that
everyone has to be in the same profession. Nature has its own way of maintaining a
balance. When we look in nature we can see that every living thing be it plants,
animals, insects, birds etc has its own purpose and a reason for being there and as
they say nature can never be wrong. In the same way we all have a unique purpose of
being on this planet. Society cannot run on just doctors and engineers yes they are
important but along with them other professions are also equally important. Theatre,
art, literature, music, sports etc too play an equally important role to maintain a
balance in the society. Imagine a world without these professions wouldn’t it be a dull
and boring place to live? So my dear friends I will conclude by saying that do some self
search and find out what is that one thing that you like and gives you happiness.
Aspire to be that and success will be at your door forever.

Dear Parents Article

Don’t worry Parents!
This year started with a drastic change from lockdown and fear of COVID-19 to a
functional shift of reopening of the school and an introduction to the new norm. This
shift has neither come easy to the children nor the ‘Parents'.
How many of us have been able to realise and recognise that we have used our potentials
to survive through this difficult phase? And how many of us faced some challenges that
we have never faced in our lives?
Just as our immunity becomes weak when faced with some Bacteria and Viruses,
similarly when faced with stressful events, difficulties and challenges, anyone’s mental
health could go on a toss. After all Parents you are also humans! And having a weak
mental health or mental illness is as temporary as getting a disease or an illness until
treated.
Terms like Anxiety, Stress, Panic attacks, trauma are often used these days, when faced
with hectic schedules, physiological and hormonal changes with age, major life changing
events, sudden loss, etc. Understanding whether you are actually going through the
clinical terms mentioned above or it might be something else is essential to neither
‘unnecessarily push your mind to think of having them’ or ‘stopping yourself from what
you need to know and treat'. Well knowing their symptoms could help us to differentiate
better.

Let’s understand symptoms of these commonly used and experienced conditions which
could affect our mental health;
Anxiety: When faced with triggers, feeling nervous, restless or tense; Having a sense of
impending danger, panic or doom; Having an increased heart rate; Breathing rapidly;
Sweating; Trembling; Feeling weak or tired; Trouble concentrating or thinking about
anything other than the present worry.
Stress: Difficulty breathing; Panic attacks; Blurred eyesight or sore eyes; Sleep
problems; Fatigue; Muscle aches and headaches; Chest pains and high blood pressure;
Indigestion or heartburn.
Panic attacks: Pounding or racing heart; Sweating; Chills; Trembling; Difficulty
breathing; Weakness or dizziness; Tingly or numb hands; Chest pain.
Trauma: Being easily startled or frightened; Always being on guard for danger; Self-
destructive behavior, such as drinking too much or driving too fast; Trouble sleeping;
Trouble concentrating; Irritability, angry outbursts or aggressive behavior;
Overwhelming guilt or shame.
Remember, your conditions directly affects you and your family’s daily life functions. As
parents if you face these conditions and choose to treat them by approaching a mental
health professional, it is a great lesson for your children to learn and at the same time,
will come as an aid to your family. If not, it will directly affect you and your family
members.
Positivity, optimism and hope are the keys to successful families and good mental
health. Let’s not make going or taking someone to a mental health professional a
stigma! Let’s contribute our bits to a healthier and happier society! Let’s make this our
motto; Don’t worry, be happy!

The bond between a parent and child is unparalleled.

Inevitably, after 3 years of age, the baby and mother soon start gaining their sense
of self and individuality as human beings. The child begins to understand that they
are a separate being. And that’s when you start looking for parenting tips that can
help maintain the strong bond between you and your child.
Here are some parenting tips to nurture and strengthen a mother-child
relationship well.
1. Talk about each other’s day
A basic thing we all do with our friends, family without thinking twice. It’s good
practice to do the same with your children. You will know more about how they’re
feeling, the kind of people they’re spending time with, their interests and more!
And make sure you share feelings about your day honestly to set it as a normal
standard habit for them that they can carry with them into adulthood.

2. Take time out to play

Taking time out to play with your child is just as important as taking the time out
to help them study. It will contribute to both the child’s development, as well as
the bond between you and your child. If you’re worried about too much play time,
you could always invest in educational toys to introduce learning by games instead
of simply learning, or simply playing.

3. Let children be a part of activities around the house

The best way to naturally strengthen the bond between mother and child is to
allow your children to help around in the house. Children always like playing the
adult, especially copying the mother, as you would know well.

4. Make time to be with your children

In this day and age, making time for your loved ones can mean the world. And it is
the same with your children. Making time for them and just being completely
present with them, leaving the screens and work aside can do wonders to
strengthen the bond between you and your child.

5. Express and show them love

Something that deserves more credit in any and all kinds of relationships is the
importance of expressing and showing the love you feel for the other. Especially
when it comes to children, expressing and showing them love can help them
understand how to create and maintain healthy relationships and bonds with other
people in society.

6. Take care of yourself first

Last but not least, and most overlooked is the importance of taking care of
yourself first, before you vow to take care of another human being. Be it your
partner, or your child, you need to remember to love yourself and take care of
yourself first, before anyone else.
