1. Purpose
2. Scope
3. Responsibility
The Project Manager and the Construction Manager have the responsibility for the overall
operation described in this method statement.
The Project Manager, the Construction Manager and the QA/QC Manager have the
responsibility to implement the method statement. They delegate this responsibility to a site
Engineer to supervise the work on site.
The site Engineer and the QA/QC Engineer have to ensure that all the works are executed in
accordance with the contracts drawings and specified requirements.
The site Engineer and the Safety Manager have to ensure that the work is executed safely.
4. Prior activities
Prior to start to install bituminous coating and damp proofing, the formworks have to be
removed and the concrete has to be clean and free of dust, loose particles and any
contamination.
5. Methods
5.1. Generalities
The Project Manager and the Construction Manager shall ensure that all supervisors have
received a complete briefing on the method statement prior to work commencing.
Prior to start casting the concrete, a fence protection has to be installed to ensure the safety
of all personnel working around the blinded excavation.
Safe access points will be installed for the passage into the casted area.

5.2. Sequence
5.2.1. Notes
The damp proofing system (Delta MS, see Material Submittal EKOEE-CCS-EXS-MAS-WPR-
LBM-X-020-01) has to be install between the raft and the screed.
This is a 77 square meter surface.
The rolls of material have a size of 2x20 meter.
The rolls have to be installed from grid lines E to H as shown on the next figure.
10 m
Overlap 0.2 m
7.7 m
2m
A necessary overlap of 0.2 m has to be kept between each layer of damp proofing.
Two and a half rolls should be used to cover this area.
Prior to install the drainage system, two layers at straight angle of bituminous coating have to
be applied (see General Specification paragraph 4.2.11.4.12. Drainage). Brush/paint rollers
will be used for the application.
The material which will be used is called Nitoproof 100* (see Material Submittal EKOEE-
CCS-EXS-MAS-WPR-LBM-X-X-027).
Surfaces must be clean and free of dust, grease and all loosely particles.
The can must be stir thoroughly prior to use.
The first layer has to be applied horizontally using an average of third litter per square meter
of concrete.
A drying time of minimum three hours has to be observed.
The second coat will be apply vertically using the same quantity of bitumen (1/3 litter) per
square meter. The drying time should also be three hours minimum.
Once this step achieved, the drainage system (Delta TERRAXX, see Material Submittal
EKOEE-CCS-EXS-MAS-WPR-LBM-X-021-01) will be installed.
As the height of the retaining walls (externally) is only 1.65 m the roll’s width is 2.4 m, the
rolls will be deployed horizontally in one layer as shown on the next picture.

The top part of the membrane will be protected by a profile called D-Noppenbahn profil to
avoid any intrusion of soil between the damp proofing and the wall. This profile will be fixed to
the walls with concrete nails every 0.25 m.
As on step 3, a double coat of bituminous layer has to be installed first. See paragraph 5.2.4.
The damp proofing will have to be installed from level 0.00 b to the bottom part of the raft. It’s
a 4 m height.
The installation has to start on an inside corner. Crease the sheet along the centre and put it
up in the corner. The fused-on geotextile should always face the soil. Concrete nails have to
be used to fix the top part of the sheet every 0.25 m.

As the height of the wall to be protected is larger than the width of the roll, it is recommended
by the supplier to install sheet sections vertically next to each other.
To make a vertical overlap between two sheets, push the edge of the following sheet under
the raised cloth edge. Remove the backing paper from the adhesive tape and glue the two
sheets together as shown on the following pictures.
Around an outside corner, the sheet has to be crease forcefully along the line of the edge.

As explained in paragraph 5.2.4, a top profile has to be fixed to avoid any intrusion of soil
between the wall and the membrane.
6. Interface
Passive interfaces describe interfaces with works and/or processes upon which the
subcontractor’s work depends.
In order to proceed with the water/damp proofing, formworks must be removed and concrete
casted must be cleaned from all loose particles. Cracks must be identified and repaired.
Active interfaces describe interfaces with works and/or processes which depend upon the
subcontractor’s work.
Following the foundations, the walls for the ground floor will come.
This work will be done by the main contractor.
8. Manpower
All contractors will have undergone their own company Induction, and the Cobel Construction
Services Site Specific Induction. Cobel Construction Services Site inductions are mandatory
for all contractors and no works will start until inductions are completed. On completion of
induction staff and contractors will wear Hard Hat (Induction) sticker.
All required Permits will be applied for and be in place prior to commencement of works, this
will include submission of appropriate lifting plans.
• Hot Works (Welding, Grinding, Cutting)
All permits have to be required to the HSE Department.
9.3. PPE
• Barricade, tape, cones and adequate warning signs have to be install at a proper
distance around the works locations
• Enough lights have to be installed around work area during night
• Fire fighting material has to be ready close to the works area
• Concrete works shall be spot checked by the Safety Officer
• Risk Assessment Sheets have to be issued for each particular activity
9.5. Environment
All the operations shall be executed in accordance with Cobel Construction Services
occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Plan.
All the quality control documentations are to be completed before commencing the work.
• Project Quality Plan
• Project H.S.E. Plan
10.1. Deficiencies and Corrective Action(1)
In the unfortunate event that non-conformance could not be prevented any identified
deficiencies shall be resolved in a timely and cost-effective manner and re-occurrence shall
be avoided to its maximum extend.
Significant deviations of any kind, that can be corrected on the spot but do not justify NCR at
the discretion of the QC manager, shall be documented and communicated using a site
observation report.
In case of recurrence an SOR requiring corrective action may be a precursor to an NCR. On
the other hand, above average positive findings shall also be documented in the same way.
Each SOR shall be recorded in the lessons learned register.

Each non-conformance report will be registered in the NCR register and passed to the quality
manager and to the responsible/involved/executing department(s), sub-contractor(s),
supplier(s) or whatever applicable.
As a non-conformity is corrected, an inspection request shall be filled out by the executor of
the subject works and shall be passed to the document controller for registration and further
actions. The NCR remains open until the non-conformance satisfactory is resolved, inspected
and approved by the quality manager or his designee and client or his representative (if
required).
For the avoidance of repetition each NCR also shall be included in the lessons learned
register and shall be evaluated with regards to process improvement by the quality manager
or his designee.
NCR root causes shall be evaluated by the responsible entity, categorized in four “M”
categories and depicted in a cause-and-effect diagram.
The cause categories are:
• Man: Anyone involved with the process
• Methods: How the process is performed
• Machines: Any equipment, tools, etc. required to accomplish the job
• Materials: Any parts, products, intermediate products etc. used to produce the final
product
For each deficiency as well as identified negative quality trends, observations, defects or
whatsoever, corrective action reports shall be prepared. The quality manager or his designee
evaluates those reports, registers them in the CAR Register and makes recommendations
accordingly.
