Urgency
At next service or PM visit.

Units Concerned
Mandatory upgrade.
This modification concerns cobas c 111 instruments having the following serial numbers:
< 50483 (with ISE)
< 1591 (without ISE)
All cobas c 111 instruments having a higher serial number are already factory equipped with the
modified Holder Water Inlet Filter and do not require this retrofit.

Note:
This retrofit is also not required on those instruments where the Update Kit Fluid Supply 3.2L has been
installed (or will be installed in the near future) because this update kit includes the modified Holder
Water Inlet Filter. Read the Service Bulletin 018 ‘Update to 3.2L Water and Waste Containers’ to
obtain more information.

Summary
The modified type Holder Water Inlet Filter allows a convenient handling when the water filter is being
replaced. In addition, the alignment of the water filter inside has been improved preventing an early
clogging.

Action
Replace the currently used Holder Water Inlet Filter by the modified type on those instruments as
mentioned above.
1. Open the modified Holder Water Inlet Filter and install a new water filter.
2. Remove the Water Suction Assy from the water container.
3. Unscrew the currently used Holder Water Inlet Filter from the suction tube and install the
modified type instead.
4. Reinstall the Water Suction Assy.
5. Go to <Utilities> <Maintenance> and select <Prime Fluid System> and perform a prime function.

Reasons of Change
The modified type Holder Water Inlet Filter allows an easier replacement of the water filter and
prevents an early clogging.

Details
The replacement of the water filter is part of the customer maintenance. Up to now this filter
replacement task was quite difficult to perform because a tool was needed to open the lid and to get
access to the filter. In addition the water filter tended distorting towards the inner cone of the holder
body which resulted in a partial clogging of the filter.
The following modifications have been implemented:
The tolerances of the snap mechanism have been optimized. A tab, molded to the lid, allows opening
easily the lid. Furthermore three small ribs have been added to the holder body which keeps the water
filter in place resulting in an improved water flow and preventing a partial clogging.
