 Setting out work

Column and wall edge lines with the 200mm offset will be marked by the survey gang
according to the layout drawing. The bottom level of the horizontal formwork, verticality
of the vertical formwork and the level lines shall also be marked.
 Shop drawing

Shop drawing will be prepared according to architectural and structural drawing for
construction. Using the shop drawings, the form work sizes and finishing levels shall be
decided.
 Preparation

Always pre-prepared panels will be used for formwork. Panels will be fabricated according
to the dimension of shop drawings.
Formwork can be classified mainly in three categories.

• Vertical form work - Columns, lift walls, beam sides and trenches
• Horizontal form work- Slabs and beams
• Sloping form work - Staircase

Formwork shall be fixed in perfect alignment and to the true shape and dimensions of the
Permanent Works shown on the drawings but subject to the tolerances permitted in the
permanent Works.

 Fixing
a) Vertical form work

1. Column/wall form work

a. 12mm plywood are used for the column/wall form work.
b. The column/wall side board panels will be prepared using 50 x 50mm timber
struts and plywood.
c. Form oil will be applied to the panels.
d. Reinforcement cage will be prepared with cover blocks hanging on it.

e. Place the column/wall formwork panels on the form work markings.
• For the columns 3 sides will be cover initially and remaining side
will be fixed after cleaning the inside of the column and getting the
approval for electrical and plumbing work.
• For the wall, formwork panels will be securely placed on the marked
gridlines and level by fixing timber stoppers at the base of the outer
side of the formwork panels. Once the initial wall panels are
assembled, wall corner panels will be placed on the allotted set up
position.
f. Nails with binding wires will be fixed to the middle of the vertical plywood
boards.
g. Vertical GI pipes shall be fixed to the formwork board.
h. Lock the side boards using separators and form ties at a distance of 600 mm.
i. Adequate supporting system shall be arranged.
j. Verticality shall be checked using a theodolite.
k. Verticality and orientation will be adjusted by using support and safety
chains with turn buckles.
l. Place sponge strips to prevent grout leakage.

Always pre-prepared panels will be used for the formwork. Panels will be fabricated
accordingly shape and dimension of the shop drawings. Typical column formwork
arrangement shows below. Steel separators will be provided in required spacing. Generally
H1=150mm, H2, H3= 450mm, & H4, H5,… =600mm

2. Beam side boards
a. Form oil will be applied to the form work.
b. The side boards will be prepared by fixing 50 x 50 mm timber struts.
c. Once finish all the slab reinforcement and beam reinforcement fabrication
beam side boards will be fixed.
d. When the beams are having large depths, more number of form ties shall be
used to lock the beams.

b) Horizontal form work

1. Beam bottom form work

a. Two corners of the bottom is nailed to 50 x 50 mm timber and in between
those timber 50 mm dia. Pipes are placed at 150 mm spacing

b. Cross timber pieces will be provided to the supporting system. Number of
crossing timber will depend on the number of supports used. The number of
supports will depend on the prop height and the load on the props.
2. Slab form work
a. 12 mm thick plywood shall be used for the form work
b. Pipe supports shall be provided at 900mm intervals or the scaffolding frames
shall be used with necessary bracings
c. After placing U jacks on the support, 100 x 100mm timber lines are laid on
it.
d. GI pipes are laid over the above timber struts at 150 mm – 250 mm intervals.
e. Ply wood shall be placed on the GI pipes
f. Form oil will be applied to the form work
g. Control points and ducts are placed at required places
h. Slab bottom level shall be leveled after fixing the reinforcement.
