• Excavation walls must be sloped at an appropriate angle, before a worker enters


an excavation pit

• A trench excavation exceeding 1.5 m in depth.

• An Open exaction exceeding 1.5 m in depth,

• Combination slope and vertical face – A combination 1H:1V (45-degree slope


and vertical face may be used, as long as the vertical face does not exceed one
meter, the overall depth of the excavation not greater than 4m , and where the
soil is not subjected to sloughing when saturated.

• After reaching the required level of excavation dewatering system will be
provided to continue the working arrangement without ponding by water.

• (Note: If Provision of Shoring required separate work method statement issued


to site and excavated soil will be used as backfill material in next stage of the
construction)

6.0 DEWATERING PROCEDURE

• During machinery bulk excavation of main lift pit area, dewatering pits shall be located
at corners. Water collecting trenches shall be formed and excess water shall be directed
to the dewatering pits. The collected water in the pits shall be pumped out by using the
submersible pumps.

• It shall be maintained 400mm wide; 500mm depth trench right round the lift pit area
and at the same time, there shall be water collecting pits around.

• If the work is to be carried out below the groundwater level (original), ensure that the
local water level is at least 0.5 m from the bottom level of the work area.

• Dewatering should be carried out in to ensure that the weight of the structure/sub soil
at any stage of construction is at least two times the up thrust at all times.

7.0 SAFETY PLAN

• All works shall comply with safety procedure or instruction set out in project safety
plan

• Basic PPE to be worn by all staff and laborers.

• Trained operator would be engaged to control or operate heavy equipment machine.

• Provide sufficient lighting whenever night casting.

• Safe paths will be arranged for traveling of construction vehicles
