work in a kindergarten because you are very good with
children and they always seem to take an instant liking

and working in a kindergarten would be the perfect
place to start. I don’t think you will enjoy working in a

To live a healthy and fulfilling life, teenagers need
to exercise. Living a sedentary life, with no physical
activity can have negative effects. Exercise reduces the
risk of developing heart diseases and other diseases. It
helps to prevent excess weight gain as exercising burns
calories. It is an ideal way to de-stress and sleep better.
One feels happier, more relaxed and less anxious.
Simple exercises like walking and jogging for at
least 30 minutes each day is good exercise. Playing
outdoor games such as football, basketball and
badminton are forms of exercise too. It is definitely
better than sitting in front of the television or playing

computer games. If you cannot do outdoor activities
then do home-based exercises. There are many online
exercise tutorials available.
Teenagers should exercise every day and make
it a daily routine. Excuses such as having to attend
co-curricular activities, tuition classes and doing
homework are not good enough. Teenagers need to find
friends and family members is a good way to ensure
realise the importance of exercise.

Recycle and Reuse Your Household Items
As individuals, we need to make an effort to save
and protect the environment. We can start at home
by reusing and recycling household items, that are
normally discarded in the rubbish bin and taken to the
landfills. Paper, plastic and glass bottles, clothes, books,
vegetable scraps and egg cartons, and the list goes on,
can be recycled, reused or composted. There are many
things that can be recycled and reused at home.
There are ways to reuse and recycle household items.
Upcycling is a way of recycling creatively and turning
items that would be otherwise unused, into functional
and useful things. Plastic bottles, for instance, can be
turned into pots to grow creepers. Toothbrushes, which
are discarded every three months, can be used to clean
hard to reach surfaces. Some decorative glass bottles
can be made into candle holders and shoe boxes into
decorative boxes. Vegetable and fruit peel, bone and meat
wastes can be made into compost to fertilise plants. Used
and unwanted clothing can either be donated or sold to
thrift shops or recycled. At the end of the day, reusing and
recycling of household items depend on the creativity of
the individual.
When we recycle and reuse household items,
we are taking charge of our environment. Recycling
and reusing conserve energy and natural resources,
prevent air, water and soil pollution, protect wildlife
and forests, and control disastrous climate change and
carbon emissions. Protecting and keeping the Earth
safe is our responsibility and it should start at home.

I am glad that you are working and going to college in
July. As for me, I am planning to go to college only in
January next year. I have to work for a few months and
earn some money to help my parents financially. I am
working in a kindergarten near my house, Mondays to
Fridays from nine to five. On Saturdays, I help kids at
the Hope Orphanage in Klang with their schoolwork.

Road accidents, the major cause of deaths and
injuries in Malaysia, is a serious problem. Many of the
accidents that occur are fatal. The accidents involve
motorists, motorcyclists and pedestrians. In 1999, on
average, 16 persons died from road accidents every day.
The single cause of road accidents involves road
users who fail to observe traffic rules. Uneven roads,
speeding, ignoring speed limits, not stopping at
pedestrian crossings, overtaking from the wrong side
and using hand phones when driving are some of the
causes. Another cause is when pedestrians choose
not to use pedestrian sidewalks, zebra crossings and
overhead bridges.
To prevent accidents, the government should enforce
stricter rules on traffic offenders. Offenders should be
fined on the spot and their licence revoked. Passengers
in cars must wear seatbelts and motorcyclists and pillion
riders must have their helmets on.

My Good Deed
When we choose to do something for a person
or animal without expecting anything in return, it is
considered a good deed and a sincere act of kindness.
No matter how small or big good deeds are, the fact
that you have helped and shown kindness means you
have made a positive impact.
One Friday, as I was walking back home after
school, I noticed a dog sitting near a lamp post. It
looked lost, frightened and hungry. It had wounds all
over. I felt sorry for the dog. I could see that had a collar
with a tag.
At first, I was nervous to go near it as I did not
know how the dog would react. I had to get the dog to
trust me. I started talking gently to the dog and moved
towards it slowly, squatting to be eye level with it. It

didn’t move. I felt it wanted my help. I finally reached
the dog and carried it. There was a telephone number
on the collar. I took the dog home and called the
number. The owner was so happy when I told him that
I had found his dog which was his son’s pet. The family
had been devastated when the dog went missing and
they couldn’t find it. The owner came over to my house
immediately to take the dog home. He was very grateful
that I had looked after his dog.
I was happy that I had done a good deed even
though it was a small one.

‘The Good Doctor’ – A Review
There are many series on television. People spend
hours in front of the TV following their favourite
series. My favourite series is ‘The Good Doctor’, which
I started watching when I was about fourteen years old.
It was first released in 2017.
‘The Good Doctor’ is an American medical drama
series, based on the 2013 South Korean series of the
same name. The story revolves around a young resident
surgeon, Shaun Murphy, who is an autistic savant. He
moves from a quiet country life to work in a prestigious
hospital. He is very gifted in the field of medicine and
works diligently to save lives. However, he faces many
challenges and suffers to seek acceptance from his peers
who are sceptical about his incredible capabilities.
I enjoy watching this series because it is a
refreshing, thought-provoking and motivating hospital
drama. It has taught me that with perseverance,
dedication, commitment and belief in myself, I can
overcome obstacles, even when people have doubts.
‘The Good Doctor’ presents a belief that autistic
individuals can be of benefit to society and should not
be looked down upon. I have learnt a lot about autism
from this series. This series highlights the fact that
something greater can happen in the life of someone
with a disability no matter how great or small. Thus, I
strongly recommend this series to everyone.

conditions, scabies, tooth-related problems and bad
odour. Good personal hygiene will also prevent you
from spreading diseases to people you come into
contact with.
Personal hygiene includes showering every day
with soap to keep the skin clean, prevent body odour
and kill bacteria on your skin. Washing your hair
regularly with a good shampoo helps to prevent scalp
problems. Washing your hands with soap and water
before and after meals and after using the toilet is vital
in stopping the development and spread of illness and
infection not only to you but also to those around you.
Next we have to take care of our teeth. Bad breath and
tooth decay can be caused by poor oral hygiene. Brush
and floss your teeth twice a day to reduce gum disease
and tooth decay. It is also important to cut our nails
often. Nails should be kept short.
Besides taking care of different parts of our body by
observing personal hygiene, it is also important to be
well-groomed and tidy at all times. Wearing clean and
ironed clothes at all times will enhance your overall
appearance and confidence and people will have a good
impression of you.

The magazine ‘Teens’ was launched in June this
year. It is an interesting and entertaining magazine
dedicated to today’s teenagers in Malaysia and all
over the world. This is the first magazine published in
Malaysia and is tailor-made for today’s teenagers. A
magazine by Sinar publication and a brainchild of our
youth minister, it is selling like hot cakes and I was
fortunate enough to get hold of one. It costs RM10 and
is worth every penny.
‘Teens’ is designed for both boys and girls,
between the ages of 13 to 18. It provides inspiration
and entertainment for every reader. This magazine is
about beauty, cosmetics, people and relationships like
most of today’s magazines. Readers will also find tips
for dealing with stress, handling school, achieving
academic success, outdoor activities, the latest in online
gaming, sports, music and much more. The magazine
also has activities like Sudoku, crossword puzzles and
word search. There are reviews on the latest novels and
films. There is one section where readers can give their
views on various topics and if the writing is chosen, it
will be published in the next issue.

I would strongly recommend it to my friends. I hope
all my friends get to read this magazine every month
because it is very informative and has many interesting

My Worst Nightmare
I was walking home after tuition. It was dark and
looked like it was going to rain. I was scared and I
decided to take a short cut through a nearby graveyard
near my home. Suddenly, two men rode past on a
motorbike and nearly knocked me over. I started
running as I was scared and nervous. They turned back
to look at me and started laughing as they rode off.
Just then, I saw a woman dressed in black walking
towards me. She was waving and laughing. I waved
back thinking that she was going to help me. As she
came nearer, the two men on the bike reappeared
and grabbed her. They started arguing and suddenly
one of the men took out a knife and started stabbing
her. She was bleeding and pleading for help. I stood
there frozen. Just then one of the men saw me. He ran
towards me. I ran for my life screaming and crying.
Suddenly, I heard my father calling me asking what
was the matter. I opened my eyes and looked around.
I realised that it was only a dream. My bed was wet
with sweat and my pillow was covered with tears. My
father hugged me and told me that I had a bad dream
and that I was safe. I was confused for a while and then
I realised that it was only a horrible nightmare – my
worst nightmare ever!

Hi,
The camp was organised by my school’s Nature
Club and was held at The Sticks, Kuala Kubu Bharu.
The camping area is surrounded by rainforests and
getting to the camping site was an adventure. During
the camp, we carried out many activities such as
jungle trekking, white water rafting, paragliding and
swimming. We learnt to cook camp-style. I really
enjoyed myself. It was a whole new experience as this
was my first outdoor camp.

An animal that lives with humans and is a source
of companionship is a pet. Dogs, cats, fish, birds,
big and small animals, reptiles and amphibians are
different kinds of pets, kept by humans.
Pets provide comforting companionship and
unconditional love to both kids and adults. Pets help
to improve our mood so that there is less chance of us
feeling depressed and stressed. They keep us healthy
as we have to ensure that they are taken outdoors
for physical activities, like walks. Children with pets
learn to be empathetic, caring and responsible when

they feed, bathe and play with their pets. Pets provide
security when they act as caretakers and some can keep

As long as one can spare the time, have the money

should have a pet. Researchers have proven that having
a pet is good as it can positively impact one’s health and
lifestyle.

My Hobby
Most of us have a hobby. I have more than
one hobby but my favourite is reading. It can be a
storybook, magazine, the newspaper or any other
interesting reading materials. I can spend hours
reading as I am not into playing video games, watching
television, gardening or sports. I am more of an indoor
person and enjoy curling up with a book when I have
free time.
Reading is without doubt a good hobby. It is a
source of knowledge, inspiration and motivation and
enjoyment. Voltaire said – The more I read, the more I
acquire, the more certain I am that I know nothing. This
is the truth and I believe it. Reading helps me improve
my language skills. I am able to write and speak with
confidence and have a wider vocabulary at my disposal.
I am more creative. When I read, my concentration and
focus improve. When I am stressed or tensed after a
long day at school, reading is the best way for me to
de-stress and unwind. Last but not least, I find reading
to be the best and cheapest source of entertainment.
Today, I can read books using kindle, audio books
and podcasts and I do not have to depend on physical,
paper books or magazines. I spend a lot of time reading.
On weekdays, I spend an hour reading, before going
to bed. On weekends, I read for about three to four
hours after having completed my chores and school
assignments.

A Review of Pulau Pangkor
Malaysia is blessed with an all-year tropical
climate and is home to hundreds of tropical islands and
beautiful beaches, perfect for people seeking rest and
relaxation. The island of Pangkor, just off the west coast
of Peninsular Malaysia, is easily accessible via Ipoh.
Pangkor consists of nine islands of which only two are
inhabited. There are a few beaches like Teluk Nipah,
Teluk Belanda, Pasir Bongkak, Coral Bay and Pasir

 Giam, which connect to coral-ringed Giam island at
low tide, Simpan Island and Tukun Terindak Island.
Tourists are attracted to the white sandy beaches
and clear sea at Pasir Bogak and the Golden Sands
Beach (Telok Belanga), which are ideal for swimming
and its long stretch of fine sand are quieter beaches.
Visitors can also take a boat ride around the island,
jet-ski or go canoeing to explore the waters at Teluk
Nipah situated along the western side. At one end of the
island, there are a number of deserted islands which
can be reached by boat or on foot. Here, activities that
can be carried out include diving, fishing and hiking
especially around Palau Sembilan, 40 minutes from
Pulau Pangkor. For those who love snorkelling, a visit
to Mentagor Islands, very close to the southern end of
Teluk Nipah is a must.
Finally, Pulau Pangkor is famous for its seafood
and anchovies. Pangkor is also considered to be a
cheaper holiday resort and is a very safe place for a
retreat compared to other beaches in Malaysia.

The Happiest Day for Her Family
Krisha woke up feeling tensed. Today, the SPM
results were going to be released and she was not
sure what her results would be. She had worked hard
for this exam and wanted to make her family proud.
She dressed, had her breakfast and got ready to go to
school. She called her friends and they all were just as
nervous and apprehensive.
Krisha met her friends at the school hall. After
the principal’s speech they were instructed to go to the
designated classrooms. The teacher called out the names
of the students. Some of the students were in tears as they
were disappointed they had not done well while others

were screaming with joy as they had done exceptionally
well. Just then, the teacher called out Krisha’s name.
There was no smile on her teacher’s face. Krisha felt that
she had done badly and feared the worst.
The teacher gave Krisha her result slip. Krisha
looked at it. She couldn’t believe her eyes. She screamed
and jumped for joy. She had obtained straight A’s! The
teacher and her friends congratulated her. She called
her parents at once to give them the good news. They
were screaming over the phone. She went home to
share the good news with other members of the family.
Everyone was happy and this, to date was the happiest
day for her family. Her father said that he could not ask
for more and was so glad that she had done so well. He
was really proud of her.
