Tomihiro Kono - Sayaka Maruyama - Fancy Creatures

Konomad 2023 ISBN 9780998620565 Acqn 33494
Pb 15x23cm 366pp col ills £111

In folklore and mythology spanning continents, cultures, and eras we find stories of shapeshifting
creatures. They reflect humanity's ancient impulse towards interspecies melding, seen in the
earliest pictorial representations of humanoid figures with animal traits. Tomihiro Kono has long
been exploring hair as his creative medium, and he is best known for his unconventional artistic
wigs. His most recent series, presented in this book, follow these transcendent tendencies -
imaginary hybrid beings inspired by various organisms on Earth, from deep sea creatures and
furry moss to endangered moths. With photography and illustration design by Sayaka Maruyama.

Erik Kessels - Ashtray Hooray

KesselsKramer 2023 ISBN 9789070478551 Acqn 33594
Pb 23x33cm 48pp col ills £39

At times smoking inside was very normal, cafes, companies, and other commercial parties
catered to the enormous need to put out cigarettes in their own specific style. By producing DIY
ashtrays, as a gift for perhaps employees, clients or just for decorative purposes. In their pride,
however, they seemed to have overlooked one specific characteristic: their beloved company, bar
or organisation's portrait is at the bottom of the ashtray and is perpetually harassed by burning
cigarette buds - a strange type of tribute. ASHTRAY HOORAY shows and celebrates a large
overview of these vernacular photography-based ashtrays.
