This week we read about Jack, a 36-year-old leader within a major hospital. As a leader,
he prides himself as a professional who supports his team and helps each of them to meet their
chosen goals. From a professional standpoint Jack is considered an example of a role model.
However, in the past year, his focus on healthy living has declined because of his professional
responsibilities. Jack went to go visit his primary care and the doctor explained to Jack based on
the laboratory results he is going to need to take medication to control his cholesterol, and lipids.
Jack was not too happy about the news. Jack is in disbelief but manages to pull himself together
and vows to exercise more and eat a better diet. In this paper we will cover this week’s questions
for Unit 6.
Jack is in disbelief and as soon as he left the doctor’s office the medication that was given
to him, he threw it in the trash. Even though Jack made the promise of getting back into shape
and on a rigorous diet he was still in doubt if he could take that on without neglecting his team. It
is going to be challenging for Jack to stay on track with his exercise routine and rigorous diet
The drawbacks of low self-esteem include having low confidence which is something
that has affected almost everyone at some point in their lives. Once it has been dented it can be
difficult to get back on the saddle, and sadly, it has a huge impact on our personal and
professional lives. Jack had a minor setback after hearing his diagnosis, but he can turn things
around by using the diagnosis as a motivation to create more effective interpersonal and work
relationships which means Jack can more effectively contribute to the work environment around
him. As a leader, you are supposed to have high levels of self-esteem which means they can

focus more positively on other people and their development, rather than spend time being down
Acceptance means recognizing the things are a certain way in the here and now and
having hope that you may be able to change some aspects of your experience or influence the
way your diagnosis impacts your life. Jack must accept and make space for the symptoms that
cannot change at this moment, the losses he experienced, and feeling empowered to continue
taking small actions (Lucette, 2020). Such as, learning new ways to manage your stress, reaching
out for support, finding a doctor that makes you feel comfortable, and always making time to say
a prayer. Jack’s best practice is to understand how to live with the diagnosis and remember to
practice self-compassion and extend the kindness he will offer to others to himself as well
(Lucette, 2020).
To achieve great results, you should constantly think about how you can motivate and
inspire your team. In the case of Jack, while in the process, Jack can share his vision and set clear
goals. He can also communicate with the staff and let them know how things are going.
In addition, Jack can create a space that is enjoyable to work in and an office where the
employees want to spend their time. Jack can encourage healthy attitudes by offering healthy
snacks and access to exercise and participating in team exercise classes (Miles, 2022).
Jack self-concept can have a negative effect on his team, that is why it is important for
Jack to turn in his negative thoughts into positive thoughts. It’s like a negative person coming
inside a room as soon as they step foot inside the door you can instantly feel the negative vibe.
whether you intend to or not. The details can range from the superficial, such as your favorite
food or TV show, to deeply personal information, such as religious beliefs, and big turning

points in your private life (Self-Disclosure, 2023). Jack can maybe open to his team and let them
know how he is feeling and give an encouraging statement that he will try everything in his
Jack must be honest with himself and accept the diagnosis. Communication is key, he
needs to find out ways to communicate with friends and family about his current health status
and what he is planning to do to correct it. This will keep Jack on track, and it will help him to
stay on top of it. Employee engagement is a key part of maintaining a successful business. Eighty
eight percent of company leaders believe employee engagement programs effectively attract and
retain talent, as well as reduce absentee, and increase productivity. Jack and his team can take on
a healthy lifestyle by encouraging flexibility, it can take some pressure off these employees and
allow them to flourish. Also provide training courses and mentorship for people to know what
steps they need to take to create a healthy lifestyle for themselves (Allen, 2020). As a leader Jack
must set an example and share his experience with his team and take that extra step and lead the
way to a healthy lifestyle. He can do all this by sharing the things he wants to share about his
diagnosis and his struggles and his commitment to himself and his family to keep this dream
going.

goals, and experiences. It is essential for Jack to understand that these things strengthen
relationships and build trust. I believe he may need to share with the team his diagnosis and his
commitment to changing his bad habits to a new and healthy lifestyle. The reaction he will get
