(to allow axial movement without damaging it) in the installation network should be
used.
For concealed installation, pipes can be encased or embedded in walls, concrete and
plaster as with other metal pipes.
a. Cutting of Pipe
This shall be done in a neat and workman-like manner without damage to the
pipe. Unless otherwise authorized by the Engineer or recommended by the
manufacturer, cutting shall be done with a mechanical cutter of approved
type. Wheel cutters shall be used wherever practicable.
b. Jointing of pipe
Pipe jointing will be done with the help of welding machine. Following method
will be used for PPRC pipe jointing.
Prepare the welding machine by fitting it with the welding dies of the diameters
to be welded.
Connect the welding machine to a power source. Wait until temperature
reaches 260 °C
Cut the pipe at right angles to the pipe axis using suitable cutter
Always remove any burrs or chips by cleaning the cutting area
Before heating, mark the welding depth on the pipe using a suitable marker
Without turning insert the end of the pipe into the heating sleeve up to the
marked welding depth and at the same time slide without turning the fitting into
the other side of the heating tool up to the stop
Leave the pipe and fitting on the heating tool until the heating time is elapsed
(see table below)
At the end of the heating time, remove the pipe and fitting from the heating toll
and push them immediately into each other up to the mark indicating the
welding depth. At this stage the depth mark will be covered by the welding bead.
During this process, do not rotate the pipe and fitting relative to each other.
Allow the joint to cool down as per specified cooling time before initiating
installation.

The Contractor shall install the pump casing so that the deviation of its axis from
the vertical shall not exceed 4 inches at the bottom of the pump housing casing.
Measurements for determination of verticality and straightness of the pump
housing casing shall be made by the Contractor in the presence of the Engineer
upon completion of the gravel shrouding.
Measurements for determining the deviation of the pump housing casing from
the vertical shall be made by the use of a circular plumb having a minimum
outside diameter of 1 inch less than the inside diameter of the pump housing
casing. The plumb shall have verticality and shall be suspended in the centre of
the pump housing casing from a point 10 ft. above the top of the casing. When
the plumb is lowered to the bottom of the pump housing casing, the line from
which the plumb is suspended shall not deviate from the centre of the pump
housing casing at the top by more than corresponding to at deviation of the
plumb 4 inches at the bottom of the pump housing casing. All deviations shall
refer to a vertical line passing through the centre of the pump housing casing to
the top of the pump housing casing.
Contractor will insure proper jointing of casing, blind and strainer pipe.
The gravel shrouding shall be clean, washed, water worn, hard, well rounded of
siliceous material and without platy particles free from gypsum shale under no
circumstances shall contain >5% calcareous material. The gravel supplied shall
be subject to inspection and screening in the field to ensure proper gradation
suitable to the formation. The gravel shall be reasonably graded and shall
conform to the following requirements:
TYPICAL GRADING

least 10 ft above the top of the top most screen. Above this point the temporary
casing shall be removed.
Sanitary seal , from tube well top up to a depth of 30 ft, shall cover providing all
equipment, labour and doing all work required to seal the annular space
between the pump housing casing and the bore hole face by the introduction of
grout as specified herein and on the Drawings according to procedures
approved by the Engineer.
The sanitary seal (grouting material) shall be provided with 1:2 cement sand
mortar. Cement and sand shall conform to the requirements of Section
"CONCRETE".
The grout is placed by being pumped into annular space between bore hole and
casing. Grout shall be placed, from bottom to top, in one continuous operation.
The grout pipe may be slowly raised as the grout is placed but the discharge
end of the grout pipe must be submerged in the emplaced grout at all times until
grouting is completed. The grout pipe shall be maintained full, to the surface, at
all times until the completion of the grouting of the entire specified zone. In the
event of interruption in the grouting operation, the bottom of the pipe should be
raised above the grout level and should not be re-submerged until all air and
water have been displaced from the grout pipe and the pipe flushed clear water.
Curing time before construction may be resumed is minimum of 20 hours.
g. Sealing of Tubewell
After completion, the contractor will seal the Tubewell till its use by employing
methods as directed by Engineer in charge.
3.02.2 Vents
Each toilet will be provided with a vent pipe of diameter as shown in the
drawings. Each vent pipe shall be constructed upwards individually. The top
end of the vent pipe shall terminate at a point as shown in the drawings.

While laying pipe in the trench, the trench bed should be level and clear of any
stones etc.
The sewer pipe at its start should have at least a minimum cover of at least 1 ft.
After wards it should be laid at a gradient as mentioned on the drawings.
Solvent cement joint will be used. Jointing method is same as given in section
3.02.1.
3.02.4 Manholes
Manholes shall be constructed with brick masonry laid in 1:3 cement sand
mortar, built on Class D concrete (1000 psi). The cover slab shall be of Class B
(3000 psi) reinforced cement concrete, fitted with cast iron frame which shall
have reinforced cement concrete cover as shown in the plans. Reinforcement
and concrete shall conform to the requirements of Section "CONCRETE". The
outside and inside of the walls shall be plastered (1/2 inch thick) with 1:3 cement
sand mortar. At the bottom of manholes for sewers, a proper channel shall be
constructed in the whole length of the manhole along the centre line of the
sewers, to lead the sewage from one sewer to the other.
4. TESTS REQUIRED
4.01 Water supply system
4.01.1 PPRC pipe
All the PPRC pipes for water supply laid will be check for any leakage. Leakage
will be checked by the contractor by filling the water supply pipes with water and
testing at a pressure of 30 psi. The test pressure will be maintained for at least
20 minutes. Appearance of any leakage will be marked and repaired by the
contractor.
4.01.2 Pumps
Pumps should be tested before dispatch for delivering desired discharge and
head in the factory premises. The contractor shall produce a certificate by the
manufacturer that bed test has been performed for the pump and is found as
per design requirements.
At site, after installation, the pump will be checked for required discharge and
head.
