MALANG - PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) stopped the Indonesian League 1
season 2022-2023 for one week after the riots that occurred at the
Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang Regency, after the Arema FC versus Persebaya
match, Saturday, October 1.
"We announced the decision after we received a directive from the General
Chairperson of PSSI (Mochamad Iriawan). This was done to respect all
parties, while waiting for the investigation process from PSSI," said LIB
President Director Akhmad Hadian Lukita in a press release in Jakarta,
Sunday morning, October 2.
LIB stated that the riots at the Kanjuruhan Stadium caused several people to
die. In addition, several facilities at the stadium with a capacity of 46.000
spectators were also badly damaged.

The riot began when thousands of Arema FC supporters, Aremania, burst into
the field after their favorite team lost 2-3 to Persebaya.
The police then fired tear gas in the field which made many supporters faint
and difficulty breathing.

Supporters who fell caused panic in the stadium area. The number of
supporters who need medical assistance is not comparable to the amount of
medical personnel alerted at the Kanjuruhan Stadium.
Many supporters complained of shortness of breath being exposed to tear gas
and being trampled while trying to leave the stadium stands.

East Java Police Chief Inspector General Nico Afinta at a press conference in
Malang Regency, East Java, said that of the 127 people who died, two of
them were members of the National Police.
"In that incident, 127 people died, two of whom were members of the
National Police," Nico said quoting Antara, October 2.
Nico explained that as many as 34 people were reported to have died at the
Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang Regency, while the rest died while receiving
help at a number of local hospitals.
According to him, until now there are approximately 180 people who are still
undergoing treatment at a number of these hospitals.
In addition to the victims who died, there were 13 vehicles that were
damaged, 10 of which were Police vehicles.
Reported by CNN Indonesia, ARMY Indonesia held a fundraiser for the
victims of the Kanjuruhan tragedy, Malang.
Until now, the donations collected have reached more than 400 million and
the nominal continues to grow.
The distribution of funds from ARMY was also carried out with good
coordination because it involved Aremania volunteers and official club
representatives.

Donations in the form of money are proof that many parties sympathize
with the victims of the incident in Kanjuruhan. Despite all that, the flow of
prayers and good wishes was never cut off.

Football fans from various teams and from various regions gathered
together to offer the same prayer.
