Football

Historical background of Football


 Modern history of football was started in 1863 in England.
 FA quickly provided the first laws of football association in 1863 and the sport of modern
football (soccer) began. FA organized knock-out competition in 1871, then the clubs of
England joined together to form league competition in 1889. This competition spread
throughout Europe.
 An international conference was held in Paris on May 21, 1904 in which representatives
from France, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland & Spain took part &
founded FIFA.(Federation International De Football Association).
 The first world cup competition organized by FIFA was held in Uruguay in 1930 &
Uruguay won the 1st world cup.
 The 1st world wide television coverage came to the world cup in 1966, when the
competition was held in England.
 In Ethiopia football was introduced by foreigner who resided in Addis Ababa in 1924
G.C (1916 E.C)

Rules of football game


Side line :- when the ball passes through the side line in the air or in the ground, it must be
thrown by two hands to start the game.

End line:- 1. A goal kick:- is given when the ball has been played by an attacking
player.
2. A corner kick:- is given when the ball has been played or last touched
by a defending player.

Half way line


o This line divides the field into two equal parts.
o A kick -off is given at the center of this line while the player remains or their own half field.

o A player will not off side if he (She) doesn’t cross this half way line before the ball is
played.

Penalty line (area)


o This line indicates the penalty & the area is rectangular.
A. Any foul-committed by defending team in this area is awarded by a penalty.
B. It indicates the part of the field in which the goal keeper is allowed to handle (catch) the
ball.
C. All the players must remain outside this area when a penalty kick is being taken.

The goal line (area)


 In this area the goal keeper has special protection.
 It is the area where the ball is placed for goal kick.

Officials (Referees)
There are three officials responsible for the control of the game.
1. Appointed referee
2. Two-line men
The first responsibility of the referee is to control the game on the field of play while the
duties of the two line men are:-
1. To signal when the ball is out of the side lines & the goal lines.
2. To show signals when an offensive (attacking) player is off side.
3. To control the corner kick area (spot) etc …
Start of paly:- A kick off is a way of starting or restarting the game (play).
 The starting point is exactly at the center of the football field.
 Every player must stand in his/her half of the field.
The goal can not be scored directly from first kick-off.
 Fair play is a principle of the game.
 Football is played not only to win but also to strengthen friendship and social interaction.

System of playing football


1. Defensive players
2. Midfield players
3. Attacking (offensive) players.
