Introduction: Hazrat Khadija was known by many names Ameerat Quraish (princess of Quraish), Al-tahir (the pure one), and Khadija Al-kubra (Khadija the great) She was the daughter of Khuwalid bin Asad and fatima bint Za’idah. She came from a noble Quraish family and her father was a successful businessman and left her a large fortune. She had been Married to Abu Hala Bin Zurarah and was the mother of two sons, Hala and Hind, she was Also known as Umme-e-Hind. After the death of her first husband, she was married to Ateeq bin Aidh makhzumi, she had a daughter from him named Hindah. Marriage to Holy prophet: She had been a widow for a long time and conducted trade in Makkah, her father who died in the battle of fijar left great fortunes for her, therefore she used to send trade caravans to Syria. She was looking for the services of a noble partner to look after her trade, many people suggested the holy prophet (saw) His very first expedition to Syria, in which He was accompanied by Hazrat Khadija’s slave, Maisra, was very successful. Maisra spoke very highly of the holy prophet and his honesty in dealings. Over time, her admiration for Him turned into a deeper affection, and she sent him a marriage proposal, with consultation of elders in her family. It has been reported that Hazrat Khadija had a dream in which the sun descended from the sky into her courtyard and illuminated her house. Warqa told her not to be alarmed, the sun was an indication that the prophet would grace her home. At the time of marriage, Hazrat Khadija was 40 years old and the holy prophet was 25 years old, the Marriage was a success. The holy prophet did not marry again as long as Hazrat Khadija lived. she bore Him 2 sons and 4 daughters. Both sons died in infancy and only Hazrat Fatima lived to see the great events of her Father’s life. Hazrat Khadija (RA) said: “O son of my uncle, I like you because of our relationship and because of your reputation among your people, and your trustworthiness, good character and truthfulness.” Hazrat Khadija (RA) gave her wealth to the Holy prophet (saw) and made Him independent. Many commentators believe that the Quran refers to this by saying: “He found you in need and made you independent.” Both were pleased with this marriage and spent the happiest days of their lives together. The holy prophet (saw) said: “the noblest ladies of this world are Marium and Khadija” First revelation: She had the honor of being the first covert to Islam and the first to leave idol When the Prophet (saw) came home shocked and in panic, she comforted and reassured Him in the following words: “Never by God, God will never disgrace you, you kept good relations with your kith and kin, help the poor and destitute, you serve your guests generously and assist those deserving ones afflicted by calamity.” When the prophet received revelation, she couldn’t sleep the entire night and kept mumbling prayers for Him She suffered the persecutions at the hands of the Quraish from His prophethood till her death. Moral and financial support: She comforted Him after the disappointments he faced with the Quraish. When He would come home depressed, rejected by His own people, she found Him full of compassion and sympathy. She consoled Him and Inspired Him with renewed hope and courage. Other than moral support, she placed all her wealth at His disposal, so He would not have to worry about financial matters. She spent her wealth for the cause of Islam. Death: Died in 619AD, after the boycott on Banu Hashim was lifted, she was 65 years old when she took her last breath in 10th year of prophethood. One day, while the Holy prophet (saw) was in Hazrat Aisha’s apartment. He turned pale and trembled when a women called from outside the door. It was Hazrat Khadija’s sister, whose voice was just like Hers. The Holy Prophet said: “She gave me Home, when I was alone; she placed her wealth at my disposal, when I was poor; and she believed me when the whole world rejected me” She was Buried in Makkah
