Method Statement for Well Point Dewatering

1. Scope
This method statement outlines the procedure for the installation of a well
point dewatering system for Shura Island Infrastructure and Utility Works.
The well point system will be used to lower the groundwater level in the
excavation area to allow for safe and efficient construction.
2. Materials and Equipment
The following materials and equipment will be used:

 Well point pipes (specifications as per approved drawings)

 Header pipes
 Well point filters
 Pump unit
 Discharge hose
 Couplings
 Valves
 Excavators
 Backhoe loaders
 Measuring tools

3. Procedure
The following procedure will be followed for well point dewatering:

a. Site Preparation

 Clear the area where the well point system will be installed.
 Excavate the well point locations according to the approved drawings and
specifications.
 Ensure that the excavation area is stable and free from water and debris.

b. Well Point Installation

 Install the well point pipes using the excavator or backhoe loader.
 Connect the well point pipes to the header pipe using the couplings.
 Install the well point filters at the required intervals.
 Connect the header pipe to the pump unit using the valves and discharge hose.
 Test the well point system for leaks and proper operation.

c. Dewatering

 Start the pump unit and allow the system to run until the desired groundwater
level is reached.
 Monitor the system regularly to ensure that it is functioning properly.
 Adjust the pumping rate as necessary to maintain the desired groundwater
level.
 Discharge the water to an approved location.

d. Well Point Removal

 Remove the well point system once the dewatering is complete.
 Backfill the well point locations with the excavated material.
 Restore the surface to its original condition.

4. Health, Safety, and Environment

 All personnel involved in the well point installation and dewatering work will
wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
 The excavation area will be barricaded and warning signs will be placed to
prevent unauthorized access.
 The work area will be kept clean and free from debris.
 The discharged water will be monitored to ensure that it meets the required
environmental standards.

This method statement will be reviewed and updated as necessary to ensure that it
remains relevant and effective.
