III. Procedure
1. Peel a piece of cold banana and then mash.
2. Mix mashed banana, water and salt in a blender for 15 secs.at high speed.
3. Cover one plastic cup with a coffee filter.
4. Secure with a rubber band.
5. Pour the banana mixture on the filter.
6. Remove the coffee filter and add the liquid detergent.
7. Mix gently to avoid forming bubbles.
8. Leave it for 10 mins. Slowly pour 1/3 of the mixture on another cup.
9. Add the pineapple juice.
10. Slightly tilt the cup then pour 1/8 cup of ethyl alcohol through the side of the cup.
11. Wait for 5 mins. or until a cloudy substance appears. That substance is the DNA of banana!
12. Scoop it using a toothpick.

The dishwashing liquid breaksdown the cell's outer most membrane while the salt helps seperate the dna
from other cells.
To remove large debris that can hinder the cells structural integrity.
4. Can you use room temperature alcohol or warm alcohol? Why or why not?
Colder temps tends to preserve dna more than warmer temp. Extreme warm temperatures can damage
the structural integrity of the dna
5. Can you use other fruits or vegetables as sources of DNA? Explain your answer.
Strawberry is one of the example of a source of dna so the answer is yes. I've watched a scientist extract
a dna of strawberries and tasted it.
