Dear Sir,
Good Day!
We are the students from Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) under the
section of Marx, conducting a research study entitled Absenteeism in grades 11-12
at Lagao National HighsSchool on Fridays, as a part of the requirement in
practical research 1 for the second semester of S.Y. 2022-2023. This seeks to
determine the underlying causes and factors of absenteeism on Fridays experienced
by Senior High School students and to determine the strategies to be used to
address this issue.
We would like to ask for your approval from your good office to allow us to conduct
our research study on campus. Rest assured that this research will be used for this
purpose only.

Abstract
This study seeks answers on the Senior Highs School students’ lived
experiences at school on Fridays aiming to figure out the factors they face on
skipping that day and to assess the strategies to be used to address this
crucial issue. This study is conducted by using a phenomenological technique
which purposely explore the lived experiences of students. A sample
composed of seven (n = 7) Senior High School students and two (n = 2)
Senior High School teachers was purposefully selected, male and female, in
different strands and grade level that were conducted in Lagao National High
School, General Santos City, in the academic year 2022-2023. The
researchers developed a tool to identify the factors contributing to the
absenteeism of grades 11-12 on Fridays. There were 11 sub- themes with 4
major themes. Four themes came up in the Senior High School students’
experience that they consider as a reason to be absent on Fridays. First is
Idleness with the sub-themes of Unmotivated and Boring. Another theme is
Unoccupied Class with the sub-themes of Inconsistent Class and Only One
Subject. The third theme is Exhaustion with the sub-themes of Tiresome,
Friday Sickness, and Overslept. The last theme is Inadequacies with the sub-
themes of Child’s Responsibility, Physical Limitation, Financial Problem and
Working Student. This study found out that Friday classes are inconsistent
causing the students to skip that day, thinking that, Fridays are trivial,
however, students still face negative consequences such as the decreasing of
their grades and the missing activities even though it was found out that they
barely do anything on Fridays. Hence, this only signifies that, Fridays are
undoubtedly inconsistent.
Keywords: senior high school, absenteeism, Fridays, experience,
inconsistent.

progress was indeed tough, but it could have been tougher without the help
of them, sincerely, thank you.
To the participants, it was such a great opportunity to interview them,
their statements were big help for us. Without their cooperation, this study
would have been weak, we are beyond thankful for their partnership.
We, the researchers are grateful to the teachers who were
considerate of our absences in order to finish this study, and to the teachers
who validated our interview tools, thank you, for without your help, we could
have had terrible interview questions.
To our parents/ guardians, we appreciate your deliberation for your
