Clauses
• Independent Clause
○ Can stand alone as a sentence. Is a complete idea.
• Dependent Clause:
○ Not a complete sentence
○ Must be attached to an independent clause

Types of Sentences
• Simple Sentence
○ 1 subject-verb combination
• Compound Sentence:
○ Two simple sentences joined by a cinjunction.
○ FANBOYS
• Complex Sentences:
○ One dependent clause and na independent clause combined by a subordinated conjunction
○ If the concjunction is at the start, you use commas to separate the sentences.
• Compound-Complex Sentences:
○ At least 2 independent clauses and at least one dependent clause

Sentence Fragments

Fragment
• A thought that is missing a subject or a verb
• You can add it to a sentence with a comma
• Examples,
○ Such as electrical or civil engineering.
○ Leaving her team at time they needed her.
○ Because the one I have is not working well.

Conditional Sentences

Conditionals
• They have two parts: the clause and the result
• ZERO CONDITIONAL:
○ Predictable results
○ present tense
○ if and when have the same meaning in zero conditionals
○ If my husband cooks, he burns the food.
○ When its raining, he stays indoors.
• FIRST CONDITIONAL:
○ something that is likely to happen (if) or certain that will happen (when)
○ future tense
○ If I go out tonight, I will go to the cinema.
○ When I go to the shops, I will get some bread.
• SECOND CONDITIONAL:
○ something unlikely or impossible
○ past tense + would
○ If I had the money, I would travel around the world.
○ They would have more money if they hadn´t bought so many clothes.
• THRID CONITIONAL:
○ An imagined effect of something that didn´t happen.
○ past perfect + would
○ [past perfect = had / have + conjugated verb]
○ If you hadn´t been late, we wouldn´t have missed the bus.
○ If I had known then what I know now, I wouldn’t have wasted so much time at
university.
