Meaning:
1. Base of life: Supporting part of life.
2. Taming animals: Domesticate (Training or teaching animals).
3. Livelihood: Means of earning enough money to live.
4. Shepherd: A person who rears and takes care of sheep.
5. Famine: Extreme scarcity or shortage of food.
6. Endangered: A plant or animal species that is in immediate danger
of becoming extinct and need protection.
7. Pesticides: Chemical substance used for destroying insects or other
organisms.
8. Protection: An act of keeping someone safe from harm or injury.
9. Wild life protection act: An act for protection of plants and animal
species.
10. Bio-diversity: A variety of plants and animals living under one

1. In ancient times man depended on animals and tubers for food.
2. Since generations humans have been using animals to fulfil their
various needs.

farmers in agriculture.

6. Some people use animals for their beneficial purpose and ill treat
them to extract more money.

to many animals.
9. The fuels like petrol and coal and pesticides should not be used
indiscriminately as they pollute and harm animals.
10. Trees should not be cut down instead trees should be grown in the
backyard of house, school premises, streets and vacant places.

A) Shepherd wakes up early in the morning. He takes the sheep to the

so?
3. Sheep: Sheep gives you wool. Why do you kill them for meat?
4. Dog: Dog guards your house day and night. Even then you don't give
them proper food and you don't allow them to play with their friends.
5. Donkey: They carry heavy loads for you. Why do you force them to
work even when they are not well?
Experiments- field observation
a) Visit a nearby agricultural field and list out insects/ animals that harm
or help the farmers in the fields.
b) Oxen and bulls work hard the whole year to help in farming. What
benefits do they expect in return? What should we learn from them?
A) Oxen and Bulls work hard the whole year in the fields to produce the
crops. But they get nothing in return except food and water. They also
expect love, affection, care and timely medication when they fall ill.
From animals we need to learn not to be selfish for our needs, to be
obedient, hardworking, to be faithful and help others as they do to the
human beings.
