IEC 62133-1: 2017 and IS 16046 (Part 2): 2018/ IEC 62133-2: 2017

1. Amendment 1 to IS 16046 (Part 1): 2018/ IEC 62133-1: 2017 - ‘Secondary Cells and
Batteries Containing Alkaline or Other Non-Acid Electrolytes — Safety Requirements for
Portable Sealed Secondary Cells and for Batteries Made from Them for Use in Portable
Applications Part 1 Nickel Systems’ and to IS 16046 (Part 2): 2018/ IEC 62133-2:2017 -
‘Secondary Cells and Batteries Containing Alkaline or Other Non-Acid Electrolytes — Safety
Requirements for Portable Sealed Secondary Cells and for Batteries Made from Them for Use in
Portable Applications Part 2 Lithium Systems’ has been published.

2. The Amendment makes an addition in the foreword of the two standards, to clarify on
portable applications. As such, there are no additional requirements to be complied with for
existing Applicants and Licensees. Hence its implementation maybe construed as deemed
implementation along with IS 16046 (Part 1): 2018/ IEC 62133-1: 2017 and IS 16046 (Part 2):
2018/ IEC 62133-2: 2017.

3. All Registered Manufacturers and Applicants may take note of the above.

4. This issues with the approval of Competent Authority.
