“KAHAWA Unspoken Poetry Session”

A One-Hour Culture and Arts Coffee Event

Introduction

The purpose of this project proposal is to organize a weekly one-hour coffee event that focuses on
writing, music, and visual arts. This event is intended to serve as a platform for artistic and creative
expression and give participants an opportunity to showcase their talents and interact with others
who share their interests.

Objectives

1. To provide a weekly platform for creative expression through writing, music, and arts.
2. To encourage networking and interaction between participants from different backgrounds
and creative fields.
3. To foster a sense of community and create a supportive environment that promotes artistic
and creative exploration.
4. To publish a book on anthology of the participants’ output.

Activities

The weekly event will be held every Friday from 4:30 to 5:30 PM at the front of Student Center. The
event will comprise of the following activities:

1. Writing: During the writing session, participants will be encouraged to bring any written work of
their own, such as poems, short stories, essays, or novel chapters, etc. They can read their work
to the group and receive feedback and constructive criticism. Participants can also give prompts
for free writing, and everyone can share their writing at the end of the session.
2. Music: During the music session, participants are encouraged to bring their musical instruments
or share their own compositions with the group. Musicians can request to have their instruments
tuned ahead of time. Participants can take turns performing or collaborating on new songs,
sharing lyrics or melody ideas, or giving suggestions for the music. Everyone in attendance will
be able to provide feedback and support.
3. Visual Arts: During this session, participants can bring their artwork and share it with the group.
This can include traditional artwork such as sketches, paintings, and sculpting, or digital art or
graphic design. Everyone can provide feedback, critique, and collaborate or work on future
ideas. Multiple art materials, such as colored pencils, crayons, or colored pens or markers, can
be provided for people to draw or doodle on paper.

Each session will also start off with some ground rules, including giving feedback in a respectful,
constructive, and non-judgmental manner. This creates a supportive, non-intimidating, and uplifting
atmosphere, promoting creativity, connection and diversity.

At the end of each session, participants will be given the opportunity to share what they have done,
created or written during the event.
Outcome

The expected outcome of this project is to create a supportive community of artists, writers, and
musicians. Participants will have an opportunity to showcase their work, receive feedback, and
collaborate with others. This event also aims to inspire creativity and foster new ideas and projects
that participants can work on in the future.

1. Improved creativity: With regular participation in these activities, participants are likely to see
an improvement in their creativity, especially in the areas of writing, music, and art.
2. Social connections: These activities provide an opportunity for participants to meet new
people, share ideas, and collaborate on projects, leading to increased social connections.
3. Enhanced skills: With regular practice and feedback from peers, participants can expect to
develop their skills in writing, music, and art throughout the duration of the event series.
4. Increased confidence: Constructive feedback, encouragement, and support from peers can
help participants feel more confident in their abilities and more willing to take creative risks.

Potential research outputs

1. Participant satisfaction: Researchers could measure participant satisfaction with the activities
through surveys or interviews, to determine whether participants enjoyed the events and
found them useful.
2. Creative output: Researchers could track and analyze the creative output of participants
throughout the event series, based on the number of pieces produced, quality of work, or
other factors.
3. Social connections: Researchers could analyze the social connections formed during the event
series, based on the number of collaborations or ongoing relationships that resulted from the
event.
4. Change in skills or confidence: Researchers could measure the change in skills or confidence
of participants through self-reported surveys or interviews conducted before and after the
event series.

Overall, the activities have the potential to generate positive outcomes for participants and provide
valuable information for researchers interested in the intersection of creativity and social connections.
The outputs will be added to the collection of the project for possible publication.

Budget

The budget for this event is minimal, as it will be held in Student Center that provides a free venue.
The organizers will be responsible for their own coffee expenses, and no additional costs are expected.

Conclusion

The weekly writing, music, and arts one-hour coffee event is an exciting opportunity for aspiring
artists, writers, and musicians to connect, collaborate, and showcase their work. By providing a
supportive environment and an opportunity for creative expression, we hope to inspire and grow the
local artistic community.
